The Commodore Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Hi Sorry mods if this is the wrong place, feel free to move it! Recently Checking through PEERON's excellent catalogue scans, I was curious about a few things that did not seen to add up with my memories of the Pirates range in the United Kingdom. The catalogues on peeron are predominatley from the netherlands. So if anyone out there is fourtunate enough to have UK Lego catalogues from 1989, 1992 and 1993. then could you help me with these questions?> 1. The 1989 Netherlands catalogue has the pirates theme on 2 pages, I am sure that in the UK this was done on four pages? It is possible that I might have it confused with the 1990 one, that explains the story behind the range. 2. The 1992 range changed the soldiers to the imperial guard, However I am sure that the Govenor ship 'Sea hawke' (6271)survived into this year in the UK. 3. In 1993 UK catalogue also displayed 'Governors fort sabre'(6276) for the last time (I remember this because this is when I got the set!) Thanks for your help! Quote
oo7 Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Hmm, I am too young to know about catalogs with pirate sets but I noticed the 2nd image in the Time Cruisers Mystic Mountain Time Lab entry is Sponge Bob Krusty Crab, WTF? (That really dosen't have to do with pirates but I found it while searching for the sets that had the Imperial Armada Morion. EDIT: This site has catalog scans although I'm not sure what country they are from. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted July 29, 2006 Governor Posted July 29, 2006 Sorry mods if this is the wrong place, feel free to move it! This is the right place so long as the discussion remains on the questions you've asked in this thread. Recently Checking through PEERON's excellent catalogue scans, I was curious about a few things that did not seen to add up with my memories of the Pirates range in the United Kingdom. The catalogues on peeron are predominatley from the netherlands. So if anyone out there is fourtunate enough to have UK Lego catalogues from 1989, 1992 and 1993. then could you help me with these questions?> If you've ever visited The Great Library of Honduras you'll notice that there is a sub-forum where in time we intend to build a collection of Pirate catalogue pages from all around the world. One day I'm going to scan all the Australia catalogue pages I have but as for other countries I'm hoping someone who lives in them helps us out. 1. The 1989 Netherlands catalogue has the pirates theme on 2 pages, I am sure that in the UK this was doneon four pages? It is possible that I might have it confused with the 1990 one, that explains the story behind the range. 1989 was the introduction of pirate so perhaps the catalogue spread was limited to two pages because at this point in time The LEGO Company was uncertain how successful Pirates were going to be. Obviously the theme was emensely successful and in subsequent years got more catalogue space. However, that's just spectulatory because I've never seen the UK catalogue. 2. The 1992 range changed the soldiers to the imperial guard, However I am sure that the Govenor ship 'Sea hawke' (6271)survived into this year in the UK. To my knowledge the Sea Hawk (or Caribbean Clipper) ceased production in 1991 and was replaced by the Sea Lion (Imperial Flagship) in 1992. So unless The LEGO Company had an over adundance of Sea Hawks to get rid of it would be very unlikely they needed to feature it in the UK catalogue. Nor does it make sense to have two ships of the same size in the same catalogue as the Sea Lion is the successor not competitor) to the Sea Hawk. 3. In 1993 UK catalogue also displayed 'Governors fort sabre'(6276) for the last time (I remember this because this is when I got the set!) You may have got the set in 1993 because it was old stock but as far as I'm aware Governor's Fort Sabre (or Eldorado Fortress) made its last catalogue appearance and was replace by Port Royal (The Imperial Trading Post). And the rest of my answer is ditto to the last one. Again my answer are only spectulative so I may be wrong. There is only one way to confirm these questions... SOMEONE GIVE US UK CATALOGUE SCANS OF THE PIRATE PAGES!!! Quote
The Commodore Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 Thanks for your help anyway Mr Phes, I shall endevor to continue my search. Quote
snefroe Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 the dutch catalogs you're refering to are medium sized catalog, not the full line catalog. dutch and belgian catalogs are the same, except for the language) and 1989, 1990 have four pages of pirates... product lines in the UK and the rest of europe are the same, really. Maybe the shop at home catalog for the UK was different... Quote

I will try to get to the bottom of this. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted August 10, 2006 Governor Posted August 10, 2006 Good luck in search Commodore as I find this subject intriguing. I always assumed the earlier Pirate catalogue pages were the same apart from the language. I've noticed that the 1997 catalogue varies from location to location as more Pirate sets were available to different parts of the world. However, to my knowledge everything pre 1997 was the same. Captain Ironhook Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 I once had some Lego catalogs as a boy but they have since been put into the trash disposal. I believe they may have been from the united states but as I do no longer possess them I cannot confirm this for real. But I know this is no help to the question of the uk catalogs I just wanted to make mention. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 3, 2006 Governor Posted September 3, 2006 Its wierd beause I remember them there, front and centre in the Uk ones, But all other ones have got rid of them. I will try to get to the bottom of this. Commdore I'm wondering if you've got to the bottom of this yet because I'm still curious on this matter. I've picked up a lot of the Australian catalogues on eBay and I'm wonder if users from other parts of the world could obtain catalogues from eBay too. Quote
Captain Ironhook Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 EDIT: This site has catalog scans although I'm not sure what country they are from. These website is very horrible to circumnavigate for the way it swaps between pages in a linear style. Why can they not have thumnails like any intelligent would have, at least them have for the catalogs themself. By the ways oo7 it tells of the name of the country underneath the catalog thumnail. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 12, 2006 Governor Posted September 12, 2006 I don't think that website offers us anything we can't find on Peeron.com which is much easier to use. Perhaps the only way we can get these catalogues is to search eBay every day and buy them. That's what I've been doing with Australian catalogues so I assume someone else with a dedicated to the Pirate theme could do the same for their own region. Of course assumptions are the mother of all... Quote
Captain Ironhook Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I am providing a reply to this thred for I want to make it at the top of the forum in the hope someone can answer our question. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 24, 2006 Governor Posted September 24, 2006 Yes, that's right Captain Ironhook keep the spirit alive until eventually someone with the information comes along and presents it to us. Anyway, I've managed to acquire some B5 (I think that's the paper size) US LEGO Catalogues ranging from 1993 to 1996 from eBay - they're still in transist however. I think that they may already be hosted at Peeron.com but if not this could possibly provide us with information we don't currently have. Although the US version of the Pirate theme seems to be the one that has become internationally accepted over the Internet, so maybe they won't provide anything new at all! Quote
Norro Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 I have quite a few of the mid-sized mags (from Europe and the US) and although I also remember some UK magazine versions by and large lego only issued an 'EU' version (look at the serial # in the corner). A quick check of mine backs up Peeron (though in English because they were obtained in the UK/Ireland). I think the slightly larger 'square' magazines available from Toys R Us in the UK throughout the 90s were individual, and due to more space often featured older sets... this is most likely what you remember, though I can't confirm it without my own collection (of only 4 or 5) which is at home, not Uni... Interesting all the same, God Bless, Nathan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 24, 2006 Governor Posted September 24, 2006 Will you be able to get confirmation on this when you get home Mr Norro? Quote
