  1. 1. Which type of LEGO pirates do you prefer?

    • Classic Pirates
    • Pirates of the Caribbean
    • I like them both together, flesh with yellow doesn't bother me.

I voted for classic pirates, though, I wish that they had done classic pirates in flesh, I really like that color.

Funny... The flesh color is one of the reasons why I voted "classic". In my world, LEGO mini-fig´s is yellow. Period!

I agree that the POTC sets and characters are well designed, but they're maybe a little too detailed for my taste... I prefer the generic style of the Classic Pirates. I like the way you can build distinctive and unique characters out of a combination of generic pirate minifig pieces, but Jack Sparrow's legs, torso, head and hair will always belong to Jack Sparrow.

This, pretty much. I liked it as a kid that Classic Pirates didn't really have any personalities per se, you could make 'em up easily enough without thinking "yeah this is Jack Sparrow (not that there was such a thing as Jack Sparrow 20+ years ago!), but I'm just gonna call him Bob..." :pir-classic:

But with that said, I literally just now received Queen Anne's Revenge, and based on pictures it looks like the best-looking Pirate-themed ship to date. I always wanted a Pirate/Imperial ship as a kid, but my parents couldn't afford 'em (especially given there were 4 kids, and if you get one something, you gotta get everyone something). But as fondly as I remember longing for those ships, I must admit that QAR has them beat as a ship looks-wise. I suppose the best thing would be to replace the crew with Classic Pirates... but nah, I guess I'll just leave it as it is once I build it (starting that within the hour).

Other PotC sets don't really do much for me though. Even the Black Pearl is far inferior to QAR. So most likely any potential further Pirate purchases will be Classic, not PotC.

I think Classic is better than POTC. At least with classics Lego can do a better job and show more innovation. People have no preconceived expectations for how an original ship should "look" or what it's features should appear as. People have a very firm grasp of how a PoTC ship should look however, and that restrains Lego on what they are able to design. I also dislike how PoTC ships don't seem to have any kind of second deck. POTC is finished and I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad. On the one hand it could mean classic pirates will fill the gap next year, on the other it could mean no new pirate ships at all. =(

Has to be classic for me! I'm not saying PoTC aren't any good, indeed I think they are fantastic but nothing beats the original Pirate sets and figures. Having said that I did buy the QAR however it is now crewed by some proper classic figs.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Imperial Flagship literally the only ship with an actual deck rather than only putting stuff on the "bottom" of the ship?

As far as achieving that I suppose the problem lies in the ship having to be very large to accommodate such a design, at least if you want to have enough space below the deck for figs to stand.

From the newest wave yes, and i guess we can count Black Sea Barracuda also as it had some sort of a deck.

Did you guys see the new yellow pirates from Ninjago season 2? They look the coolest!

Yeah some of them look like they could be interesting additions to any Pirates collection. Let's hope they will be part of a 2013 Ninjago wave.

Well, even the BSB only has half a deck. It's a nice compromise for a ship of that size, though.
