Would you really call them "rubber"? Rubber makes me think of the material used for the minifig spears in the last wave of Hero Factory-- very flexible, so much that you can bend them 180 degrees and they'll bounce right back to their original position. A similar material is used for Exo-Force hair and for the tips of the collectible minifigure spears from the Spartan Warrior and Tribal Chief. I was operating under the assumption that these were the same sort of material used for Atlantis tridents or most post-2004 BIONICLE masks-- slightly flexible, but if you bend it too far you'll stretch the plastic and ruin the piece. Was I incorrect, or am I just misunderstanding what you mean by "rubber"?

On a side note, remember that in the case of rubber pieces, the material's not necessarily there for safety reasons so much as stability reasons. In reality, nobody expects a kid to stab themself with Dobby's ears or Exo-Force hair-- the reason parts like that are rubber is because rubber parts allow more thin sections and sharp details without the same risk of the part breaking. So, for instance, if the tip of the Spartan Warrior's spear were made of ABS plastic, the tip would likely snap off as easily as the tip of a toothpick. By making the part out of rubber, it is able to bend rather than break, and it bends right back into the correct position as soon as it's no longer under pressure.

Well, I could call them plastic, but then that wouldn't be accurate to their feel and flexibility. These are amongst the softest minifigure accessories I've ever felt. They are just as flexible, if not more, than the Spartan Warrior's spear. The biggest difference is that these have kept a glossy finish. I don't think any of these new weapons would have been under threat of bits breaking off had they been made out of a harder plastic.

This is the set that got me interested in all things Kingdoms. I liked the bucket and the chicken the most. The new weapons don't bother me too much, but since they are a different scale than what I am accustomed to, I'd much prefer not having them.

Thanks for the review!

I think this set is a bit below average, but still ok. The build is fairly interesting (probably very similar to the MMV blacksmith area) but the resulting structure is a bit too small IMHO. I would have removed the soldier from the set and replace its cost with a few more bricks to make the building larger.

I actually quite like the weapons, with the exception of the bow, and they add a little more variety to the current weapon parts.

I prefer built-brick birds definitely, but I have to say that they could not have done a better job with the new chicken!

Finally, I guess that if they had included just one pitchfork here, it could have boosted the sales of this set by a good 20%, since it would have been the smallest set with one of them.

This review has made me want to buy a set I didn't even know existed until today. Awesome review, ZO6!

I'd buy this, if I hadn't just built Medieval Market Village, which has a similar blacksmith only better.

The weapons gallery is pretty cool though. Do they come in any other set other than the Heroica games?

Wow, what a fantastic little set and review! This set is very well designed, it has some special charm. I love every piece of these set but I must agree that some weapons are strange, maybe cause that weapons are not standard for castle theme. When I compare this set to Armor shop 6041, I must say that Blacksmith attack is way better but thats my opinion. Outstanding set :classic: Out of topic I must say that Kingdom line isnt perfect (not all sets are great) but Kings Castle, Mill village raid and Blacksmith attack are 1 of my favourite sets of all time.

Outstanding!

Just got my set, and it looks brilliant. The new weapons give a variety deserving of a blacksmiths (Rather than it just being full of bog-standard weapons). The characters are both great, the blacksmith will come in very useful for both Castle and Pirates MOCs/brickflicks. The building is lovely and will fit in with any historic village or town. Expect this set to feature in a future brickflick of mine!

great review!

I really love this set!

The blacksmith minifig is beautiful and the dragon knight awesome! Also, I really like that the set isnt overpriced and has lots of great and necessary for diorama accessories!

I hope LEGO makes more sets like this in the future. I regret that back in 2012 I was still in my dark ages and not paying attention to the great Kingdoms sets.
