I agree! Any recommendation of online places to buy & import?

not sure. maybe we should start a group buy

Does anyone know the box's dimensions?

The question may sound absurd, but the fact is I've had the boxes of my other UCSs around the place for a long time, and I'm wondering if they would fit in 10221's one.

Box dimensions are 48.5 cm x 58 cm x 19 cm approx.

Hope for it to hit Amazon.fr with their cheap shipping, otherwise it will costs $550 or so if you find a bricklink store who will ship it for $120

Amazon France? wont that mean you will have to pay french rrp which comes equates to about $570 usd at the moment??

Any word about TLG stores doing triple VIP points to ramp up the holiday season? They did this last October, so I can definitely wait a month if so.

But then tax is removed, which helps. Amazon.fr ship the Death Star for around the $500 AU right now, depending on the dollar. They key is keeping the freight costs down. As the SSD and DS have the same RRP, I am hoping it will be the same. But this is getting off topic.

The sooner this is available the better for me, though considering I still haven't opened one of my Death Star playsets, who knows how long it will be before I open this one

They did? The last time I remember seeing that was Black Friday in 2006. Usually, they do the scratcher thing on Black Friday for their big holiday sale. Scratch a card to get 10%, 20%, or 50%-off, plus a free PaB box with any $75 purchase throughout the month.

Yay, another member who appreciates studio models! :sweet:

I agree with you, but when working with a medium such as LEGO that has much less freedom than, say, custom model kits, sometimes compromises are necessary to make the model look good. For example, on my AT-ST, the angle of the side plating on the 'head' is slightly off, but it was necessary for the model to look good using LEGO angles. The official set may be closer to the accurate angle, but it's plain ugly.

Christ, they can't win can they? If they get it right it's 'ugly' if they get it wrong it's all 'BLOO BLOO MY ACCURACY'

Personally if I was in charge I'd say 'Screw the lot of you' stop the theme and reboot Time Cruisers.

No, there are some of us who dislike it for its ugliness and some who dislike it for its inaccuracy, but not both. I'm one of the former, and I don't mind if it's slightly inaccurate if it looks better.

I don't think anyone has ever complained that a ship was ugly because it was too accurate. If they get it right it's awesome, and if they get it wrong it's "bloo bloo my accuracy, this is ugly".

However, I'm just glad were getting a SSD, and can ignore the accuracy complaints. If I decide I hate something on it I'll just modify it.

Don't say that too loud, LEGO will hear you and respond accordingly. Last thing we need is a bunch of battle droid parts passed off as the deck trim on the Time Cruisers 2 Super Explorer, piloted by figs with young Anakin heads, freckles and all.

As for 10221, I am sure I won't be getting this one due to lack of display space and cost.

Sigh, the more I look at close-ups of this set, the more I can notice that horrible bridge part and the bump it creates on the surface.

I hope that someone will steal the car of the "I'm a conformist" who decided to put minifigs in this set just to increase its price.

I apologize if this has already been answered, but does anyone know the width and height(without the stand) of the completed model? Length is nice but the other two are important for display purposes.

She might be long, but she's not very wide...... At the widest point the SSD is a mere 34 cm in width.

Height WITHOUT the stand is only 13cm.

Please note that these measurements are approximate.

Hi DrDave, I’ve just been reading your excellent review (again) and I was wondering what was the approximate build time? Also, do you know if it’s still being released on the 1st September? (the Lego website is currently showing ‘Coming Soon on null’). I’m really tempted to get this one! Cheers, Robin :classic:

Hmmm, now you're asking.... Build time is hard to estimate as I built the SSD over 5 or 6 nights, and a fair bit of the time was spent taking pics as I went along and writing the review. Also, I'm a pretty slow builder, preferring to savour every step rather than rush through. A faster builder could probably nail this in a (long) day I reckon.

Regarding launch date, I'm still assuming 1st September, although it may be available on the S&H website the previous evening as was the case for the Imperial Shuttle.

Thanks Dr D. for the info :classic: I realised after I had posted the question it was a bit random & subjective! I happily wasted a lot of hours building my falcon, and I really enjoyed it, so a long build time sounds good. I know that this isn’t perfect (flat base, in particular) but it’s pretty impressive overall and I know that I’ll always regret it if I don’t end up buying one!

really need this set,

well it is very expensive if you compare it to the death star,

who has 600 pcs more, but an awsome set.

saw the review and i really like the numberd bags in it,

earlier in a big set you were looking over half an our for one pcs,

so this is a good solution, good job LEGO

legobobsse.

JUst ordered SSD on us lego shop at home. Its available now if anyone is interested

well i will wait for a copy of the ldd file for this beast!
