lego wonkyeye Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I actually love this set! The figures are amazing and I personnaly think that this cabin is much better than the queen annes revenge. The stairs are awesome!!!! Quote
JimBee Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Meh. The ship itself is overall boring, and there's not much to separate the Pearl from other Lego ships. It doesn't even look like the movie version, you might as well have taken the generic Lego ship design, colored it black, and called it the Black Pearl. However, the minifigs are excellent, as usual with PotC sets. Davy Jones is definitely the highlight of this set, and I'll get him off of BL as soon as this set is released. Quote
Big Cam Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I will definitely be getting this ship, but I must admit the QAR is a much more desirable ship. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Diggin' the brown head scarf and hammerhead guy. The ship seems a bit drab though, but I am guessing we will be seeing a few mods to spruce it up a bit. Quote
Nuju Metru Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Maybe I'm not picky enough, but I actually like the Pearl. The movie version of the ship was practically all black anyway, after all. And those minifigures are golden, especially Davy Jones. While I agree that the QAR is maybe a more interesting ship (colors, motifs etc.), the BP is both cheaper and, to me, a more desirable ship to have. Quote
On Stranger Tides Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Pardon my language, but BALLS, just balls. I think Lego is rolling down hill terribly. I worked at the Lego store last year and when i saw the picture from comicon in my store last summer I almost cried. But I think this is one of the worst licensed themes of all time, except for the minifigs... I love the figs. I am so disappointed in Lego that it almost makes me sick. How dare they make the Icon of all 4 films the worst set. They could have at least put three damn windows on the cabin. Who needs another Gibbs??? Marty? Pintel, Regetti, and Cotton.. anyone else would have been better. If they put Jones in why the hell not throw the Krakken in atleast???? I'm sorry if this seems stark, I'm just so depressed that this theme turned out like this... Quote

Bricksan Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 While I would like it if it had not got the name Black Pearl but the fact of the matter it has and thus I am a tad upset that they did not make a bigger deal with this ship, it is the iconic ship of the series and as such should have been the set to make everyone go wow, it should have also been an excuse for them to make the best lego ship yet...... prateek Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 (edited) Awesome! I really like the closed cabin. Much better than the QAR BTW, Can we deeplink these, or are they too big? Edited July 17, 2011 by prateek Quote
______ Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 No. BB Has bones under the skull, this has swords under the skull Not same at all. Captain Becker Same skull though, I don't see why they can't use the proper flag design but they instead use the cartoon skull Quote
On Stranger Tides Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 but you will still buy it ;) NOPE NOPE NOPE. The QAR is the only one I have not gotten, and i wont. SO disappointing. Quote
Brick Smiley Productions Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Wow those black sails were genius on TLG's part! Quote
RocketSeason Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Yeah, other than a few of the figs, I am not totally sold on this. the QAR looks much better and has plenty of parts I could use. I believe I will just be getting that. If you are a huge fan of the Pearl though, I could certainly see this being a good buy. Quote
TeufelHund Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I am a little underwhelmed, particularly having built the QAR on the weekend that simply looks magnificent. Sadly, the minfigs look like the main attraction here, although after a looking at the images a little more closely, the ship is not completely terrible but pales in comparison. Quote
legofett5 Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Im gonna be one of those few people that will actually like this set. I think that for 80 dollars, it is what it should be. Of course I'd rather pay the 40 dollars more and get a more detailed, bigger set with more minifigs, but for 80 dollars i think its fine. I'll get it, and just for the minifigs like most people. The minifigs look awesome, and it will be awesome to add to my potc collection. What I like about it is that the captains cabin is much bigger than that of the one in the QAR. That one was just awful, this one you can add stuff, which I defiantly will do. So to me I think its a must have. Quote
Lord Insanity Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Well that makes two ships in a row now that are missing half their mast rigging. (I'm looking at you QAR.) The Pearl doesn't even have a stern hull. Its actually kind of wacky that the first pirate ship LEGO ever released (6285 Barracuda) is still the best designed. The QAR came so close to beating that but it, like the Pearl, looks half finished because of the missing mast rigging pieces. The Pearl being the ship of POTC should have been a rival design wise to the solider ship 10210 Imperial Flagship. Ah well, with the number of awesome sets in general that I otherwise want, I probably can't fit it in the "fun stuff" budget anyway. Quote
22kane Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I'm not much of a pirate fan if you can't tell, however, I do like the POTC sets and I own most of them. I've seen a lot of negative comments on this set and I guess I would understand more if I was deeply immersed into the pirate Lego world. I think the set is great especially since the ship is black (I've only ever seen the Lego ships in brown) and I certainly plan on buying it upon release. I collected the pirate themed sets when I was a kid ( late 80's and early 90's) and the newer stuff like POTC blows them out of the water. Any newer set is quite superior to the sets from 20 years ago no matter how you look at it. Just look at this years train sets alone, absolutely stunning! Quote
Delta 38 Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 (edited) Hmm, interesting. Not that different from what we've seen already, though. I like the black colour scheme, maybe more than the QAR's. It looks (for lack of a better word) much cleaner with one uniform colour. The minifigs are nice too, but it's odd that Jack is included without his tricorne. Edit: just noticed on the box: "this ship does not float". Edited July 18, 2011 by Delta 38 Quote

The 90s ships not so much. Quote

roamingstop Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 A swiss website is offering delivery on 7/23/11 - but i reas somewhere it is not due until October. Is it worth trying to see if this is an early mistake? Quote
Israel_B Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Not really liking how they're going back to the old way of hanging the sails, I thought the new method seen in the new IFS and Brickbeard's Bounty did a much better job of looking like the sails were catching wind and making it less prone to sagging and wrinkling... Not sure what you are meaning there, the sail hangings look exactly the same as the QAR. In fact the construction looks almost exactly like the QAR but that is not going to stop me from buying this the minute it hits retail. That is if it hits retail here in Japan... Quote
Wardancer Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I like the blond big beard which I can use for an elf wizard. Quote

Yea I mean the way they hung the sails for this set and QAR are the same. They are going back to the old way seen in SES and BSB.I prefer the way the sails were rigged in the IFS and Brickbeard's bounty. Quote
Mr Spielbrick Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Oooh! Thanks for the pics, guys. I be joinin' the lads what say 'tis golden! It looks fine to me. Everything I'd want to be on the Pearl is there. The new minifigures are fantastic, and the old ones recurring make sense to me. Let's look at it this way - does anyone think this theme is a one-year deal? It looks a lot like the Indiana Jones theme to me. This suggests sets of all four films will be released over a longer time. Captain Jack Sparrow (with and without coat and/or hat, as a skeleton and even with cannibal facepaint!), Barbossa, Elizabeth, Will, Norrington, Gibbs, Davy Jones, Bootstrap Bill, Blackbeard and Angelica all make an appearance in the very first year. That's an amazingly high count of cool minifigures of important characters, I think. Seems to me all the main heroes and villains have already been made. Oh okay, one main villain is still missing - Cutler Beckett. But seriously, this'll be an ongoing theme, surely? Personally, I'm hoping for Ana Maria to appear as a minifigure. I'd love to finally have a black female minifigure. Tia Dalma of course also counts, but her face would be very specific, not so easily used for other characters. Anyway, on-topic: love the set. Might even have to indulge in watching the last scene from The Curse of the Black Pearl as soon as I come home with the set. "Captain Sparrow... The Black Pearl is yours." Quote
