@ Mr Man

As requested: Pictures of the old Darth Maul head onto the new body and

the new headpiece.

Thanks Future74. Now this looks great ,a nice new torso a lovely zabrek horn mold and a face that doesn't look like this . I'm going to replace the heads now, I'm also going to do the same with the new Qui-Gon. Now the two best things about the PM can look great as Lego minifigs..

I had no idea how much bigger this version was.

Same here, I didn't know the previous version was so inaccurately small, so it's a great thing that the size was appropriately fixed in this version. I would have wanted to have a combination of the smoothness of the 7663 Scimitar and the proper size of this new one, though it's perfectly understandable due to parts limitation. I also have mixed feelings about the figs, the updated Padme and Panaka are great, but the new Qui-Gon and Maul faces are quite disappointing, I prefer their original '99 face prints over these new ones. But overall, this still looks to be a good buy particularly to those who have missed the previous releases of the Sith Infiltrator.

It's not really 'fixed'. The proportions are better, but it's still far from appropriate scale. The cabin area in-universe is two decks high with the top deck holding seating akin to that of the Jedi Council Chamber, if memory serves correctly, so you can't really say the inaccurate small size was fixed. As System scale goes, though, I agree that it's better than the previous versions.

Before I attached them I thought it might be an improvement,

but after I think it looks really weird, a little small. :sceptic:

What do you think?

@ KielDaMan

The old Infiltrator is kinda dwarved by the new one and that's a big improvement.

But I agree the 7961 needs more smoothness, not just on top but also (as mentioned before)

the join between the cockpit section and the 'nose' front and technic you see on the side view.

@ Brickdoctor

You're right about the scale, the proportions are better but it's still far from appropriate scale.

I think this is the best TLC had to offer in a system scale.

I remember calculating once that going by the 'canon' length of the Scimitar, 26.5m (at the moment, I had no other measurements) 7663 was roughly 1/100 scale, which goes to show just how small it is (it's shorter than my X-wing!). Also, according to one ERTL kit, the Scimitar is over 40m in length. (I doubt this is correct, as many other commercial kits and scratchbuilds have retained lengths which are closer to the accepted length.)

Good review!

The set is good; but the only reason why I am going to get this is because of the minifigures.

But for $60, it ain't worth it. It's only worth $45.

Awesome minifigures! :classic:

Nice work. Not a bad set at all. I think this is a very large improvement on that last one, with the exception of the bottom of the ship. Not that I'm going to be dishing out $60 for this though.

They look too narrow but about the right size.

[snip]

It does look a little better with those old wings, though they look a little small. (narrow? skinny? short? choose whichever adjective you like; I mean to say that looking from the side profile of the craft, they aren't long enough)

While I agree that the old curved pieces aren't long enough, I would reserve judgement until we can see some pictures of the craft with its panels completely opened or closed (Future74's shots depict it somewhere in the middle).

Not so much small as they look about the right length, i.e. they seem to touch the side of the cockpit when closed, But they are too narrow and don't fit properly on the beams.

I think that this is what Brickdoctor meant.

Indeed.
I think that this is what Mr Man meant:

Are the wings in that shot out of place? The one on top looks like it's angled backwards and the one on the bottom looks like it's angled forwards.

Maybe the angle in which I took the picture gives the impression that they are attached different, but that's not the case.

The left and right wing were in the same position too. Top and bottom picture are taken seconds after each other.

I was actually referring to the shot of the studio model fallenangel liked to. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm honestly not sure. It might have something to do with the fact that the ship isn't perfectly lined up with the horizontal in that picture.

Most excellent review Future74! You put a lot of effort in it, much appreciated. About the set: not quite sure if this is gonna be mine, I don't own any older version, but it's just not ''realistic'' for me. Figs are great on the other hand.

Personally, Maul's Inflitrator has always been a silly set. You only see it for about 10 seconds of the movie, and yet TLG's made three sets of it. This is the only one that I want- and that's mainly because of the MFs. It's sad.

Nice review Future!
