LEGO Universe will have a free part in August.

The free version will only have access to 3 worlds. Also the game will no longer be in a box, but will be a free download for everyone. The membership for access to everything will still be $10 a month.

This is neat, but i was invited to do beta testing and I didn't like it after 10 minutes of playing. I know most of the problem was that my computer couldn't run it, but it also didn't interest me.

I hope this works for them, though, to get more people who might be on the fence about playing the game.

YAY, now you guys can join us in LU! Well as a noob . This is a great step for lego universe to just show people what it really like. However, those people who say they didnt like it at first then just give it some time. As the begginer missions are rather boring and dull but once you are a member of a faction and start getting more leveled up gear, then the game takes off!

Also, LU is nothing like the TT games and its better for it! (I know I wont get many people happy with that last statement )

Oh and the news was on LU's offical website a little while ago LEGO universe.

Thanks, CB!

How does it compare to World of Warcraft? Obviously its not going to be a clone, but would I find the gameplay too <insert that tiresome argument> for an adult used to playing WoW?

One thing I wouldn't miss about WoW is all the n00bspeak- I find that really annoying, especially in the Trade channel. Some players have nothing better to do than diss others.

And I wouldn't miss all the endless statistical knowledge needed to build an effective character, nor the grinding needed to make gold.

Well for me this is not very interesting. I received the game along with a months free membership free in the post from the Lego for being a VIP member and I did play it for a few days. However I simply found it too childish, their is little room in the game to go and explore the lands like in real more established mmorpg and the game also gets boring after a while of playing. It try to focus on the fact that it is all Lego rather than focus on the areas to explore, it also seems to be a lot of collecting pointless items.

However despite this I have no problem with anyone playing the game and in fact I even recommend trying it yourself because we all will like and dislike it for different reasons. If it is indeed coming free I recommend you do check it out. :classic:

Would the limited levels of the free version be enough to get good gear and things like that?

I do plan on trying this out, and the concept has always intrigued me. The game'll probably have a hard fight with Civ 5 and EB for the time I spend on the computer, though.

Same here. I was invited to the Beta, but the blasted helpc enter didn't help me one bit, so I never got into the game.

I came to LU from WoW. I no longer had the time in real life to dedicate to the long hours needed to be in game just to compete. Now that I'm a casual gamer, LU works for me. I play once or twice a week minimum and never feel like I get left behind.

You no longer have to worry about l33tspeak or fighting over raid loots. It's not as hardcore as WoW but I've never had a problem walking away from LU to do RL things like I did with WoW.

Everyone should try it once, especially when it's free!

This is great news (except I wish I had waited and not paid $10 for the game). Real life got in the way and before I did more then install (and update, and update, and update), ran through some of the training in that first big main room - next thing I know my trial month was over. :cry_sad:

I look forward to playing for free on my time and not have to worry about trying to get my $10/mo of playtime out of it. Games should be fun, not stressful.

I'll be honest I was a little shocked when this came out that there was a monthly subscription at all, I mean what kid 12 and under can afford a monthly membership.

It just seemed like a poor business decision, and it looks like I was at least somewhat right.

I'll definitely try it now, just to try it, but I think LEGO souls stock to the regular games they make.

That sounds appealing. I never did like 'l33tspeak', no matter how easy it was to type, and I don't want a game that's going to take away the majority of my free time. (which, obviously, is spent on LEGO and EB)

So for just these three free worlds, would we be able to interact with other players and gain good items? And most importantly, would it ever be necessary to access the other worlds in order to keep playing? (not would I want to, that would depend on how much I like the game, but would I need to)

@Brickdoctor

When I played for the month I found that to advance and get more imagination, yes you do need to go into more than 3 levels and I also found that you need to go out into more worlds if you want to have any chance at gaining the better gear. However I suspect that the game will be tweaked to allow the F2P players to gain some decent gear.

Okay, thanks. My main interest is the creations you can build in game, not so much the leveling up and battling, so maybe the free version alone will be a good game to play.

Yeah, I think you will definatly be able to build all you want seen as their are builder vendors on pretty much every world. Hopefully they won't restrict that part of the game to Premium though.
