The engine reminds me of a Swedish T43 or T44. But I'm sure there are several diesels out there with similar looks.

Has anyone noticed the pallet of drums in the wagon.....yet we see no fork lift to load or unload.....so could there still be components unseen as just that gives this a high price ?

I did notice that but, seems a bit odd to have so many photos of the train if it wasn't the entire set. It is also strange with regards to that pallet... Maybe it can slide onto the back of the truck? Or is it possible TLG didn't think we needed another forklift? If you're a train/ town fan and haven't acquired at least one, there may be something wrong But seriously, can't wait for this train!

I had submitted designs for one of these in a Lego portfolio in 2010.... but think this one does look better with the red battery box.

For what concern the Vossloh model g1206 or 1700 they are widespread machines in Europe and their shape really looks like the 3677. In my moc building yard I built and tested the undercarriage only. For the model g2000 I experimented this replica which currently is disassembled for upgrading:

Now that is wow. Slight pity the center element is not 4 wide, but the rest of the design rocks.

I should mention my office (near Zurich) overlooks a siding where these regularly appear.

Thanks Helos for pointing out the AM are Vossloh... I have no idea on manufacturers details, numbers etc, just know things from aesthetics.

Having seen these pics, I finally decided to not buy this set (apart from that I wouldn't have the money anyway).

Reason: The train (esp. the engine and the waggon with the crane) look excellent - but I really dislike the big lack of (mainly small) accessory. This shall be a track repair train, shouldn't it? So where are the tools, the blowpipe etc. that the train workers are really able to repair the tracks?!

I'd bet that it'll be only a red sticker. Otherwise TLG had to release some more sets in 2012 with red battery boxes inside that this would be profitable.

I would think it to be a sticker, because having to produce two similar yet different parts that are not as profitable (Except with us.:P) would probably make Lego lose money.

Earlier in this thread (back many pages) it is stated that the battery box is red; it is a new version. The IR receiver is hidden behind the doors, which is why there is a strange light grey stripe.

The information I have is that it is indeed molded in red plastic, no sticker. Even better, there's going to be a complete normal grey battery box in the set with just the bottom of the battery box in red thrown in seperately. It seems that it was easier (and cheaper) to include the grey bottom than to change it for the red one. The complete grey battery box is treated as a single piece by LEGO. For the same reason, the Toy Story train includes the two red blind train wheels even though they are not required in the set (the six wheels packaged together are treated as a single part).

Whatever price; the Locomotive looks nice, and the rear carriage will lend itself to becoming a 10219 MOC. And that windscreen piece might just drive down the prices on BL (if it is similar to 10020 Santa Fe).

And whoever did this, it is a nice design

I had brought it to the meeting to show it off (of course) but also because I wanted to compare it with the Maersk train (I didn't have mine yet). I got mine recently and I want to modify it to the same standard (7 studs wide). I made complete instructions for the Grey locomotive (a GE B38-7E) if anyone is interested.

Absolutely! I have been lurkling on these train forums for a while, but my town, star-wars and castle themes are already too much. Can I afford to take on a fourth theme? The better question, do I have room for another theme?

I wish people would read the thread. It gets really annoying having to repeat yourself for those too lazy to inform themselves when the info is easily available. If you don't care enough to read the thread about the subject you are speculating about I can't see why those who find stuff out should even bother posting it.

This confirms the info that I got about the red battery box. It is not a sticker. At least the version seen in the offices of Lego Australia was not a sticker. Interesting new facts about the extra grey cover. Thanks for that.

I would love a monorail; I tried to use 7898 Passenger Train as a monorail.... It didn't go well 7939 will be discontinued in the near future.

While we are waiting for some info on the new set, I felt like I really need to grab the previous train as it is better in many respects. So, today after work I went to buy 7939. In many shops it is not available any longer here, in Russia.

Still can't understand why such a cool and carefully thought out set is going to be replaced by something simpler and less beautiful.

I tell you what, i would love it if Lego really went for the train theme again and started producing lots of different designs and ideas. You never know.....

We've had quite a few trains in the last several years, more than I can remember in a long time. While trains are not as abundant as the 12V era and perhaps early 9V, they really seem to be making a come-back. Now if LEGO would offer a few different single car/rolling stock sets, that would be awesome.

In terms of 3677, the train almost seems like a mix of single car sets because each wagon seems so different in color, design, and style. While many LEGO Cargo Trains have similar aspects, I find the wagons in this set somewhat unique, almost as if a non-LEGO designer created them. Maybe it's the mix of colors, but I just can't put my finger on it.
