Piranha Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 (edited) Thanks for those links. It will probably be $150 USD similar price to the passenger train. 7939 is a better value still. No points, that is a shame whatever happened to TLG saying they can give us alot more track now since it is no longer metal plated??? Unless they count more flexible track Boxcar, ballast loader and Engine are nice though. EDIT: Red battery box, molded plastic or sticker? still to see? If it is molded plastic red and those of you who want to use the official battery box ($50 one) I believe if it is like the AAA version you can unscrew it and lift the top section out and place it in the red box? LEGO Guy Bri Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Great new bits of info on this set. I look forward to this set but, having only one ballast car? May need to try and get some off eBay when it hits U.S. shores. I do agree with 'Macoco' on the $150 price tag. The current being $180 is a bit steep and probably hurt sales. This looks to be a promising set Quote

22kane Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I cant wait for this to hit the shelves. I just purchased the current cargo train as well as the Emerald Night and Maersk set. I hope Lego continues to release more trains like they have been recently. Quote
TypoCorrecto Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 (edited) I just ordered it from TRU by phone!...Just tell them the Product ID No....11815467...$159.99 p/tax...There is still the BOGO 50% and free shipping for $49 and up purchases... Lego Man Can Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Does anyone have any idea how much this will cost, if it does come out? I would really like to get this set to go with the 7939 but the price might change my mind. Quote

This will work then with BOGO and free shipping. Thanks! oh BTW, what number did you call to place the order? Quote
hoeij Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 This train is now also listed on lego.com, although it is not yet available (at least, in the US). http://shop.lego.com/product/?p=3677&LangId=2057&ShipTo=US Quote
tbroyd Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 (edited) Thanks for the great new pictures but they just reinforce how underwhelmed I am with the set The loco and works wagon are great but the other 2 wagons look ridiculous and the price seems to be very poor value compared to the cargo set. I know lego is predominently a toy for kids but the models still need to vaguely resemble real life, surely . If anyone can find a photo of a wagon even remotely similar to the ballast wagon i'd love to see it. Just have to see how cheap it gets, hopefully it won't be an exclusive Edited July 1, 2011 by tbroyd Quote

Guess I'll be phoning them as well. Quote
ZueriHB Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Well 150€... It is "hard to find" put LEGO.COM to german location settings and see... Available now and CHF 249.- for Switzerland (Cargo Train: 269.-, Passenger Train: 169.-) Quote
Cwetqo Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 This picture is misleading: It shows switch and rail crossing and AFAIK there arent any in the box. Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 A chance meeting at a toy shop over a week ago, I asked the state Lego rep about 3677....he said he didn't know really, he said 'my guess Toys-R-Us'....he was also the one in August last year to tell me about a Ninja theme game/build series. I tried calling Lego and emailing TRU last week to confirm....well I don't need to wait any more....so much about customer service eh ? Looks like TRU get the last laugh for the mid-year toy sales, as September sees here in Oz a giant Lego promo and it figures since that is the release time for the Hoth Base set as well. Ouch my back pocket, ah....they now have layby, but the paper work and fees are worse than a banks ! Now we only need a review of one ! Quote
Maf Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 (edited) If anyone's interested, I had this set today in my hands in Lego Shop in Berlin. Edited July 1, 2011 by Maf Quote

TypoCorrecto Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Either its out of stock or someone made a mistake at TRU and let it out early and they're now holding it back probably until the BOGO is over. I ordered mine by phone about 9:30am CST and I'd say by the afternoon it was out of stock for shipping on the TRU website. Quote
hoeij Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 I was tempted by the BOGO 50% at TRU, but even at 75% of $159 it still seems expensive to me. I like the engine and that last car in the train, but I have enough spare train parts that I should be able to make something like that at a lower cost. I'm going to hold off on this one. Quote
henryhotspurs Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 I like the engine and will most likely buy the set, but will cannabalize everything but the engine. I always have a need for sliding doors, train wheels, base plates and couplers. It's a shame it's so <insert that tiresome argument>... Quote

In fairness, it would be nice if TLG introduced a lower priced <insert that tiresome argument> train set- would make sense IF it was sufficiently low priced (yet engaging) to get their target audience into L Guage. Indeed, TLG might wish to look to how successful supermarkets have been with 'loss leader' promotions- ie selling certain products more cheaply to get the punters engaged in more profitable purchases. A train set with enough track and sufficient 'play value' ought to do the trick. Quote
Aeturnus Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 looks nice but..abit scarce in the figure department..still I prefer the 9v trains myself though.. Quote

I don't see that a loss leader would work for lego trains, by far the vast majority of purchasers only ever buy one train. Selling that one train at a loss doesn't help much. Quote
