JopieK Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Well, for once I expected this set ot be an exclusive. Because it was not in the retailers catalogue and we've never heard of a set like this before that, like with some other exclusive sets. This does not changes the way I think about this set, it's still awesome even though it might be a bit expensive(r?) Exclusive? Are you kidding? The set isn't that great at all. It is OK, but not more than that. It is not realistic at all I mean so it is more like a toy train with quite some playing possibilities. Quote

peterab Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I agree, If anything, it'll probably a TRU exclusive. I've been told that it will be in the regular city line. I assume that means it will be a replacement for the current cargo train. There have been reports the current cargo train has disappeared from the 2011 second half catalog, so that would make sense. The current cargo train is selling well. My guess is that 3677 will do the same, and that you'll find it in toy stores as soon as the current cargo train sells out. Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 'jonwil' does have a point, but availability might still be an exclusive.....to independent retailers though. Like in Oz, that means Toyworld, independent Lego retailers (BTTW, Toy Corner, etc,.) and Myer...all these have carried the 2010 train range (though Myer don't sell track). I will make some inquires to Toyworld, to see if 3677 is on their buying lists...if not...then TRU will be more likely.....I hope NOT ! Brick On Everyone ! Quote
JopieK Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 A toy train with quite some playing possibilities? That's exactly what parents want to buy! Yups, but the discussion was, "will it be an exclusive" like the Maersk train or so! In the NL the minifigs are also not sold by all store (the definition of "exclusive" that lightningtiger uses). But the LEGO use of "Exclusive" and "Hard to find" is more like "for AFOL's". Quote
Ashi Valkoinen Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Hi to everyone, where is the battery box in the loco? It has the new PF motor, but how can you fit the 8×4×4 gray battery box into the 4 wide red locomotive in? Where is the IR recievers' "head"? There isn't enough space in this loco. On the other hand, new parts appears, so it won't be a MOC. But what is it? Prototype or simply carefully made fake? This is a very similar diesel locomotive made one of my club mates: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/safiati/m40/dsc06217.jpg the Hungarian M40 Quote
roamingstop Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 If you look in earlier posts / photos on this thread... it seems the battery box now has a red casing (front of the cab) - the light bley line happens to match the location of the battry box cover. The IR receiver is hidden beind a pair of dark bley doors which fold back on the main body (rear of the cab). First I thought it was a new red one, but seems not. Quote

You can see the grey top and bottom in the hood. This is no fake, or Mocs. It was officially displayed at LegoWorld, by LEGO. I've had it confirmed as an official city train by Ryan McNaught Lego Certified Professional. He has seen it at the Sydney Lego offices as part of this years new sets. Quote

Thanks for your info 'peterab', I'm still waiting on that phone call back from Lego Oz....another STD phone call....meh....yeah I know the 1800 number ! I wonder what else he saw ? Quote
Ashi Valkoinen Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Sorry to everybody, after opening the topik I've seen only 3 pages, I realized now, that is 9 pages of post (only read the first 3 by me). Quote
Tearloch33 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I wonder if the PF Battery Box will be molded in Red, or if it will use a sticker or decal to make it Red, like I am doing on my BNSF GP-38 modification to make it a PF train without using a seperate car for the battery and IR reciever. Klaus-Dieter Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Thank you all very much for this information, the pictures and the video! I must admit that I've got mixed feelings about this set: On the one hand the engine, the waggon with the "hut" on it and the ballast box look amazing. On the other hand the ballast waggon looks bad in the brown color and I don't like the closed waggon with this strange colored roof. I would prefer a working vehicle with crange to repair signal boxes instead of only a simple vehicle with storage place on its back. Apart from that I fear that with TLG releasing this set this summer as an exclusive City set which surely will be more expensive than 100 Euros - if it included all that PF stuff - we won't see any civilian City sets (some jobs) which we need so much! Btw: Do you think that the closed waggon has some more cargo stuff and some tools for repairing the tracks inside? Klaus-Dieter Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 My reason for a brown ballast wagon hopper is there is already tons of red and I guess brown shows that the wagon is well used and a little rust...maybe ! Now K-D raised a good point is there anything in the green and grey boxcar.....my feeling is sadly...No.....they never did with the 2006 cargo train's red boxcar. I wonder when Lego themselves give us the official release date, box art and of course $$$ price ? Quote
peterab Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Thanks for your info 'peterab', I'm still waiting on that phone call back from Lego Oz....another STD phone call....meh....yeah I know the 1800 number ! I wonder what else he saw ? He saw the whole upcoming mid-year range. They were on show at the Sydney office, and I believe will be on show at the Melbourne toy fair. Unfortunately he can't discuss anything till it has been officially unveiled. He could answer questions about the train once it had been shown at LegoWorld, but said he'd seen it some time ago. I (along with some other AFOLs from the local LUG) got an invite to a breakfast from Lego Australia, on 11th March, and we will be able to see the toy fair stand, and photograph some of it. I'll let you know what I see. I assume it will be similar to the larger NY and European toy fairs so I doubt there will be anything really surprising. As far as I know this train will not be an exclusive, but a regular part of the city line. Ryan described it as replacing the older Cargo train. I'm a bit surprised because I would have expected the Yellow train to last for four years, but it appears it's being replaced after two. Quote

Huh? They did! You got 3 pallets in the set, one with smallish Octan tanks on it, one with curved propane tanks on it, and my personal favorite, a pallet with 2 car engines in it! I guess you could say that these came for the blue truck and the forklift, but they are supposed to go in the boxcar. Quote

True, but I never did they always sat on the back of truck or on the forks on the lift truck. Now maintance supplies are actually on that little pallet lifted up and down by that little crane on the flat bed. Quote

I always left the Octan and propane pallets in the boxcar and the engines on the forklift. The truck was a jump ramp for the red sports car, which inevitably flew into the boxcar laden with explosives and it all went downhill from there.... Quote

Well.....'Jay wants big BOOM !' or when you want more.....C4 ! Odd in a way Octan drums on that pallet, oil....that's a lot of oil or could it be fuel for the road'n'rail truck ? Quote

I probably think gas for the truck, but it could be a delivery to other maintenence equipment, like the 7936 crane. You never know with LEGO. Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 True, I was wondering why that vehicle didn't come with tools and no where to carry either the crane attachment or digger bucket ? Now that road'n'rail looks....umm, I don't know but this is mine from last year..... You decide ? Brick On ! Quote

But back on topic: I am not sure if I am going to buy this. To me, the current 7939 looks much better, has many better features (overhead crane and containers), and it just seems like a much better value. I hope I have enough time to save up to get it before this train comes out! Right now though, the LEGO budget is all going to the Maersk Train! (2 copies and PF for one of 'em) I can't wait! Isn't it better to get the 7939 first because it's going to be discontinued soon instead of getting the new maersk train which at least got 1-2 years shelf life? Quote

I would actually tend to agree with this. Grab 7939 now where you can find it before it does go away. I've got two copies already - one for play, one to sell. Once 7939 goes off the market, you can be sure it will climb in price very quick, and then you can say good-bye to that train budget you were saving up! :P Quote
