Since I'm not much of a builder, really complex and detailed things are beyond me. I don't MOC much at all, but when I do I go for simplistic, since that's the only thing I can reasonably pull off. Without further ado, here is the first creation in a theme I like to call Futuristic Classic Town:

The Smiling Mafia is terrorizing civilians! They've added extra boosters to this hovering pickup truck, as well as an imposing turret on the back. The Mafia uses this deadly truck to fight with police and rival gangs, as well as holding up cargo trucks and making off with loot.

Here's a head-on front view. In keeping with Classic Town vehicle dimensions, this truck is 4-wide, with the addition of the side bars. It also uses standard Classic Town design elements, like the clear windshield, headlight bricks, and grill pieces. The droid arm is not supposed to serve any real purpose other than adding some detailing to the front of the truck to make it look tough.

The one semblance of a 'technique' is visible in this side view; namely, the SNOTed yellow 1x4 tiles on the sides to give it a clean look. None of this MOC was planned before the building process, so I invented the engine detailing on the fly when I came across those yellow saucers. Though it might be a little strange, I am happy with the abrupt transition from the smooth bed of the truck to the engine.

The back view shows the boosters and a better look at the engine and turret. The engine is probably what I'm most proud of in this model; it's very simple, but looks classy. I probably saw it in another MOC and subconsciously stole it, but I like how it turned out.

Finally, here's a closeup on the turret chair. It's built mostly off of a Classic Space chair. It might be ridiculously large for the size of the truck, but it's the Smiley Mafia. They don't have any limits.

That wraps up this MOC. I actually made this some months ago, but I figured I would share it now because I have started working on some more vehicles to go in my Futuristic Classic Town theme. By the way, the Smiling Mafia was born out of my love for several different LEGO minifigure items: suits, fedoras, and the classic smiley face.

I hope you enjoyed it. Here's the Flickr set with all of these pictures and a few more. Any and all comments and criticisms are most welcome!

Very interesting 'Clone O'Patra', like taking bad guy ideas from SP3 and throwing into the 1980's Lego Town fused with classic space.....oh, I do like the guns and a space ute....maybe it's Aussie !

Great work and well, duck for those blasters....they are really packin' heat !

Wow, I'm impressed. I loved SP III and the whole "Space City" idea, and combined with classic 4-wide Town it's an even better theme.

I'm looking forward to seeing your other Futuristic Classic Town MOCs!

Ahhh, the MOC bug bites! :snicker: I like the Classic Town-SciFi fusion you've got going here Cloney, and I love the idea of the Smiling Mafia

Where did you get the yellow saucers? I've not seen those before :look:

Thanks for your praise so far guys!

Yellow isn't the most common color for that piece, but even then it does appear in 22 sets, according to BL. These particular ones probably started out life in Yeti's Hideout.

Yes, it seems there are two in 8403 City House, a set I only reviewed for Pete's sake

*Must pay more attention*

I like this moc a lot. This brings back a lot of memories for me. My friend and I used to build vehicles like this. They're so simple but offer useable futuristic vehicles. I like the low budget look of them. I always thought they looked like cars that were already old when they were converted into flying cars. My friend even had his character attach boosters to the yellow car from Main Street.
