DarkDruid Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Hey, I'm currrently working on a bastion based on the Kingdoms-line. There's still a lot yet to be done, including walls, but I thought I should share it with you guys. :) It's currently composed of four sets 7948 and some extra bits. The current "ground floor" opens up to reveal: Comments would be appreciated. Quote
Niku Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 It´s unfair you dont have any comments yet. I love it all. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 This is already looking great, I love the unusual cross design of the structure. Very good job so far and looking forward seeing the progress and the completion of this one. Quote
CommoScout Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Beautiful and Uniform in appearance. Very military. Do you build for play or show, I noticed the hinges on the walls for access to the interior. If it's for play, have no shame, I still play with mine at the ripe age of 30. Quote
Darkdragon Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I really like the look of this project. The colors/patterns look great and I especially like those statues used as structural supports. It all looks very nice. Quote
Hoboman Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I love the overall design and really liked the first floor statue columns. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Looking good so far! Feels like a set with MOC-like detail. Quote
DarkDruid Posted June 28, 2011 Author Posted June 28, 2011 Looking good so far! Feels like a set with MOC-like detail. The idea for this construction started out when I had two sets Outpost Attack, they looked good together, forming a tower, but I felt it was kind of missing something. What I set out to do was create something that maintained as many elements from the original Kingdoms sets while being a bit more "solid" as it were. Quote
Rhodes81 Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 looks great. i really wish i had the pieces to make a real castle and not just the little gates i do now. Quote
Si-MOCs Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 So many beautiful little touches. But I think the 2 Minifig Pillars are definitely my fave. Simple but beautiful. Quote
Artanis I Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Unusual shape, it looks interesting, but I'm sure would be no good for defending as the enemy can so easily attack each wing from 3 sides. But it does look good as a MOC. I especially like the tiling on top, very official looking. I think in terms of making it more defendable, if it had 8 wings/arms that might work. It reduces the size of attacking army that can fit between towers. Not that I'm asking you to do that, just saying. Quote

Well, you've executed it well, with the studs-up building and all. The modularity is very official set-ish as well. Edited July 1, 2011 by Brickdoctor Quote
Ecclesiastes Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 That's gonna be a nice bastion! Like it to see it now, so we can see the progress! Quote
Bingo Little Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 All the other comments are terribly accurate, but the flag is also brilliant. It's custom yes? If so, how did you make it? Quote
DarkDruid Posted July 5, 2011 Author Posted July 5, 2011 (edited) I bought it. I'll send you a PM with further details. Also, I'd like to note that I'm currently designing the floor that will come beneath the current structure. (And no, that's not the basement.) Edited July 5, 2011 by DarkDruid Quote
DarkDruid Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 Well, it's been a while, but I finally amassed the 2300+ bricks needed to continue work on the next floor. I thought I might as well take some snapshots as the building progresses: At this point I couldn't help but wonder what on earth the LDD building guide was thinking, but oh well. Which brings us to: Yes, thank you LDD, this makes sense. I'll continue work later today/tomorrow and keep you guys informed. Quote
Matej_Emperor Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 That looks very nice, man. I would like to see more pics :) Quote
Vindicare Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Hmm...I can't wait to see the outcome of the new box o' pieces! I'm going to be keeping my eye on this. Quote
DarkDruid Posted February 19, 2012 Author Posted February 19, 2012 (edited) Onwards it is: The end result! Now for some interior. Needs some books yet: Miniaturised version of what the bastion will look like once completed: Sick"ward" with medicinal plant, knife and some potions. Treasury: No, it's not a throne: It's for weapon storage!: So, where does all this go? (Yes, I know it's sticking out a bit. I'm still in the process of collecting bricks to work on the other sections.) Edited February 19, 2012 by DarkDruid Quote
Skipper Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Unrealistic as it is this is looking quite cool, unique design and great playability. Your furniture looks good, simplistic as the rest of the design but very TLG. The mini-model looks promising, I didn't know you were expanding it beyond the cross. Quote
Vindicare Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Wow! What a great update. Nice details on the inside, great furniture. All said and done there, though, it looks a bit odd just stacked there by itself. I can't wait to se the finished product. I definitely like what I see so far. Very creative. Quote
DarkDruid Posted February 19, 2012 Author Posted February 19, 2012 (edited) This was never meant to look realistic, it's started out as something that's supposed to be as close to the style of the official sets as possible. If you're wondering why there's a bit hanging over, it's all to do with the next layer of the central tower. (Part of the current layer this update also belongs to.) Which also means, that yes, I assembled it incorrectly in that last photo. Er-... Edited February 19, 2012 by DarkDruid Quote
DarkDruid Posted April 14, 2012 Author Posted April 14, 2012 New stuff added: (Apologies for the poor lighting.) Two squires wearing symbols of the Old Lion Kingdom. Members of Highborn Houses still carry this symbol of their countries rich history. :) Quote
Abu Dun Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 This is coming along really nice. I like that the central parts are shaped like a cross, this gives it a really distinctive style and makes it easily reckognizable. The symmetry of the several parts is an interesting feature as well and I'm eager to see how it develops in the future It also looks like the resident wizard is attempting research in the structure of the human body, but for what end should perhaps remain his secret?
