MINDSTORMSMAX Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 as soon as my son won the thing, he said "I'll hold onto this for a few years and sell it to some collector for big bucks" he is rather conservative with his funds and is fascinated with the stock market and investing. and that was several years ago when he was 10 or 11. I hope those thoughts stick with him as he gets older. he sets goals and then gives 100 percent trying to reach them. Is your profile picrure the bronze C3PO? If it is could you post the full sized picture? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 I don't think that's the print on the torso. Whoops, never mind that. Is your profile picrure the bronze C3PO? If it is could you post the full sized picture? It's the gold one. Hence the title of this topic, 'Solid Gold C3PO question'. Quote

1980-Something-Space-Guy Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 I know I'll never own this, so thanks for sharing an actual picture of this rarity. I thought I would never see one. Why is the head slightly up, though? Quote

Why is the head slightly up, though? I might be wrong, but maybe to show that it is solid gold, and not painted? Edited September 19, 2011 by ceroknight Quote

JimH Posted December 19, 2012 Author Posted December 19, 2012 Seeing as this thread has recently been bumped anyway - does anyone know if this C3PO sold, and if so, for how much? (I'm nosey!) no it has not ........................... yet over the last year since first posting on this forum and another we've received periodic emails or pm's asking about it and sometimes a value of what they would be willing to give for it should we go to sell. anyway after the first of the year my son may look at trying to sell it. what we don't know yet is weather we should try to deal with serious folks who've inquired over the last year or just put it out on the market via ebay or whatever. anyway if and when my son decides to list it for sale you can bet your bottom dollar that i will post about it here. if for anything else just so some of the leggo fans can follow its story along for shear enjoyment/curiosity. heartofdavy Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Hey Jim, I'm new to the forum. I was hoping to see some pictures of the 14K gold C-3PO. For some reason they are not visible, I wondered if you might be kind enough to repost some of them or email them to me if you would like. Thanks, -Dave Quote

JimH Posted August 5, 2014 Author Posted August 5, 2014 Over the last couple years I have had several folks seriously inquiring about purchasing this piece. At this time my son has still not sold it. He has entertained a couple of legit offers but in the end he can't get himself to sell it. He starts college this fall and thanks to his hard work in high school and great test scores he is not in immediate need of cash. As I have stated before I will post if and when he sells this thing to keep everyone updated. On the flip side should anyone catch a sale of any of the other 4 I would appreciate a heads up to educate us on where the market is on them. Thanks and good luck. Quote
Shawn Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I hunted down my copies of the original adds and the winners for these figures. I also tried to put all of the info that we know about these figures in one place. Where are the other 4? http://www.minifigpriceguide.com/wordpress/details-about-the-5-solid-gold-lego-c-3po-minifigures-given-away-by-lego-where-did-they-go/ Quote

It is about 1/3 down the page behind some battle droids. Quote
Commander Turtle Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I think an auction would reduce the selling price, because then you need two very wealthy fans to bid each other up, while in a direct sale you only need one. If it was put on Bricklink for say $50,000, then when that richest of fans comes along you simply do the sale. (Plus, Bricklink fees are lower than eBay's.) Finding 2 wealthy fans to reach the same heights seems like a stretch, although theoretically the price could go astronomically high. I don't doubt that this fig is worth the price of a car, but the method of selling will determine what type of car we're talking about. Quote

About 2000 for the gold and the rest for collector value. I do not think it will be a lego person that bought it. I think it would be one of those craze star wars collectors that have 6 houses filled with stuff. That is just my theory. sadly one of the six gaps i'll never be able to fill... TheStrategist Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) What are the other 5? I don't know about all of them, but some might be the Bronze Boba Fett, the Gold Boba Fett, and the Silver Boba Fett. These were given out at Celebration V, Comic-Con, and May the Fourth promotions. There were only 2 of each figure released. EDIT: The other two are probably the Bronze C-3PO given out at a Comic-Con, and the solid Silver C-3PO given out at Celebration IV. TheStrategist Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I'm pretty sure the head wasn't pushed on 'properly' by Lego in the first place for some good reasons: probably because it would scrape and damage both the neck AND the head. It would't surprise me if the head won't actually even fit properly on the neck without using brute force™, and finally getting it on would most certainly mean never being able to get it off again (combined with the risk of actually splitting the head). Getting the tolerances right on a cast gold object is probably a lot harder that it is on regular ABS plastic. I'm even guessing that the hollow inside the head might have filled up just slightly with residue molten gold, making it impossible to fit on the neck. I can't imagine Lego had enough budget for these prizes to be able to 'discard' any gold figures due to flaws in the finished product . The head is definitely supposed to go on fully. The ones they displayed at the 2007 Toy fair had the heads properly put on just like any other minifigure. Also, since the arms are raised, the joints are definitely supposed to move. There are more pictures of it here: http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/swexperience/toyfair2007/lego/ Quote

I assume it happened during shipment since FedEx is no different than any other shipping company. We did not want to push it down too hard and damage something. So that is why the long neck look on this particular piece. It is what it is in the picture. Quote
Shawn Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Would you be willing to post a picture of the winning letter and the packaging that it came in? Quote
JimH Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 There was no letter. They left a phone message on our recorder saying he had been one of the lucky winners and they would ship it out to him. A few days later a Fed Ex box was left at our door step during the day. In the box was the case wrapped in a heavy clear plastic bag and that was it. Quote

JimH Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 What is that piece of cardoard that you have him mounted on? The gold piece is in a case(think picture frame that is about 1" deep from glass to background) the background is basically the certificate. There is a piece of Lego fixed to that background and the figure snaps to it like any Lego piece would. What I would like to figure out, was the contest opened to anyone beyond the US? If so how many winners were in the US and how many were from another country? Quote
