While I am a huge fan of both LOTR and Lego Castle, I'm not sure how well they would go together. My main question is how well such epic scenes such as the battle for Helm's Deep could be translated into an official set. Because we all know that Lego must work within limits as far as scale, piece count, and minifigs go.

I would have...

The simpsons: That would be a great one,and do you know why? Because you would have yellow licensed Minifigs! :cry_happy:

Battlestar Galactica:I have seen tons of pictures online, and its brilliant show, just imagine Adama as Lego. And the Cylons would really cool.

James bond:Heh,this would be a good one, think of the Lego agents, but with James bond.

This would be really good, for Lego's own make this what would I do...

Lego skyscrapers:I would like this,I mean if it was not for 9/11 then the WTC would be a great build,in fact I would love Lego to make a model for the 10th ani :cry_happy:

Lego f1:They did sort of touch around this before with Ferrari but this would be ALL the teams.

Well thats all I can think of for now

Thank you very much for this information, Cwetqo! :classic:

LotR

I only hope that Lego will release some new Kingdoms sets nevertheless. It would be a shame if the Kingdoms theme died already after two years - it's imo one of the best if not the best Castle theme ever!

But if there weren't any new regular sold Kingdoms sets in 2012 (which is imo regrettably very supposably due to LotR): Do you, too, think that there is a high possibility that we'll get an exclusive Kingdoms sets in January? I'd go for a big tournament set, perhaps together with some kind of medieval fair. Imo that is since long overdue and would be completely amazing! What do you think?

Did anyone else get the email from Lego VIP asking them help us create a new LEGO® set? Then asked to pick the best collectible minifig from series 1-3. I picked spartan. Anyway at the bottom in the fine print it said: The top 5 minifigures will be announced in the November email newsletter and the set will be exclusively available to VIP Members to purchase in 2012

So where getting a set from one of the minifigs.

Just a few thoughts.....

I've always felt that The Hobbit is a child friendly entry point to Tolkien's middle earth. Sure it has dark moments but not nearly as dark as Lord of the rings. I could see Lego producing Hobbit sets for a couple of waves but I don't really see them going into LOTR territory. With so many Dwarves and Elves, a dragon and the Mirkwood spiders Not to mention trolls, The Hobbit contains plenty of scope for two waves linked to each half of the movie duology.

LOTR is too vast and has too many factions and locations. Trying to cover all of that in two or three waves would be bound to disappoint.

I think Tintin would be a better Lego license. the success of the first movie will determine interest but with three movies planned it seems better suited to cater to kids adventure hunger. Probably more kids will see Tintin than the Hobbit. Plus with Spielberg as director producer there's more chance of a Lego license as he's very Lego friendly while the Tolkien estate are very sniffy about who touches middle earth property and the way the material is handled in merchandising. The Toybiz action figures were one thing but Lego might be taking things too far. It would essentially be cartoon-ising the property in a way that trivialises the literary experience. I'm Not saying it couldn't happen just speculating on obstacles to it happening as opposed to the ease with which a property like Tintin might happen. Lego is almost ideally suited to Tintin. A cartoon representation of something already a cartoon itself.

As for other Lego properties, I don't see a future for Pharoah's quest or Atlantis. Kingdoms is a good theme and I don't see any reason beyond poor sales why Lego wouldn't keep going with it. Alien conquest has scope for more on each side of the battle. More ADU HQ type stuff. Alien homeworld stuff. It's fun and colourful.

City will never die. A steady rotation of professions mixed with the odd civillian setting keep things fresh though reliance on the Police sets is getting tired. A school, hospital, adventure playground, sports centre might add something to the mix and freshen things up. And construction sets linked to the building of a modular structure where each vehicle actually has a job to do to help would advance on the last round of construction sets. with each new set having a part in bringing together a legitimate building it might give some incentive to purchase the whole range.

POTC will run its course. A nice diversion in the pirates theme but not a stellar outing for Lego. Perhaps some lessons learned will benefit a return to Lego's own pirates. Unless more movies are planned I don't see POTC lasting beyond the first half of 2012.

Pixar/Disney stuff isn't as good as it could be. Monsters inc and Monsters university should be the next sets tackled I think. All the crazy monsters would give Lego chance to be truly creative and give minifig collectors a nergasm. It's also the richest material out all the pixar movies. Not that the other movies aren't cool but monsters are more intersting than cars and toys.

Hero factory like ben 10 I feel lacks the oomph of bionicle. I'm sure there are plenty of fans for HF but it hasn't got the slickness of the bionicle mythos and as such I can't see it having longevity.

Architecture is proving popular and I could see expansion here. Microscale seems to gaining more and fans and I could see a few sets that allow people to build desktop cities. Space is at a premium for lots of people and many avoid City sets as they feel too old for those. Microscale offers an opportunity to indulge in town/city planning and creativity without eating floor space while being incredibly cool. The models Lego already produce of landmark buildings are great but they could do with addressing the wider fanbase of microscale.

I really would love to see the simpsons, too. Those figs would be amazing and there are many scenes you can build with the Simpsons!

Like said some years ago I really would like to have some LotR stuff because there are very many great figs to create with such line, like Ents or Elves for building fantasy released stuff.

Well that would bring us very many nice set ideas... If you could think of the Lothlorien forest or the mines of moria with nice graveyard and dwarf stuff (like dwarf skellies). :cry_happy:

The only reason the Harry Potter line might stay open is because of the new game and DHP2 dvd/blue-ray coming out in December/ November/ Autumn (fingers crossed XD)

POTC might go maybe after one more wave- will there be another film coming out?

Star Wars- ofcourse.

New theme- Superheroes-

City- meh

Castle- the idea about the Hobbit is good. Maybe

Did anyone actually see the contract for lego harry potter at all. I've read some things which state certain facts (i.e. that Harry must always be in uniform when in a Hogwarts set) but did they ever post it online? I've only been on Eurobricks for a while now so I don't know how it works.

Well thats my invalid opinion anyway

The same way they did the epic star wars battle.

just have a small section and some minifigues. Like Battle of Naboo great battle droid battle pack actually and bonus gungans!), or the echo base. If they did LOTR they would probably just make small structures and then a handful of minifgures as warriors.

Are there really strong indications for The Hobbit?

I just think that if TLG were really going to have that theme, comic con was a great time to announce it.

I think it would of been to early to announce it,its not even a year away yet.

The current wave covers the time up until the end of this year, though.

I doubt that there will be a The Hobbit license or a Lord of the Rings license for that matter. It's to late for LotR (It's eight years since Return of the King came out!!) and has kids of today even heard of "The Hobbit"? If they have, how eager are they to buy Lego sets based on it?

So all in all I think that a theme based on Tolkein has a really low potential of being successful

Agreed. If PotC isn't selling well, then there is DEFINITELY no chance of a Tolkein line making it.

(However, I know in 5 years people will still be hoping for one... :sadnew:)

I think it is for the best. This way classic themes like Castle and Pirates will be able to stay/return without worrying about licensed themes stopping their production.

I think the best kind of licensed theme are Pixar or Super heroes as they don't overlap with any of the ever greens. It was sad to see space go because of SW years ago, it is a joy it came back and is doing nicely.

POTC Wont be contiuning in 2012 and either will be Classic Pirates i afraid.

But if TLC Suprisingly does the second wave of PTC, then Inteceptor would be a killer set! It would include two minifigs: Jack whit his hat and Will Turner.

PS: Real Walkers: Yes, there is fift film coming out someday. I think at latest film ending isnt just right to be the final film. 3rd one was much better IMO if it would have been the final one.
