TheKingOfBuilding Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 I am planning on building a Hogwarts (well, auctually I've already started) and want to buy multiple sets of 4736 or 4865 but I don't know which set is more useful to have lots of! Here is the "pros" and "cons" of each set: 4736: Freeing Dobby Pros: Tan and light grey archways School uniform torso Dobby (can be used as one of the school kitchen's house-elfs) New style "earling brick"s Spider (For the scene in the Forbidden Forest with Arragog) Death Eater head on Malfoy Cons: Lucius Malfoy minifig - he's way too common to Bricklink Not a huge amount of tan pieces except from the archway and "earling" bricks Another Harry Potter head - what do you do with them all? 4865: Forbidden Forest Pros: School uniform torso Dark brown half-arches (perfect for the arches in the Great Hall) Foliage pieces (great for covering the ancient walls of the castle) New mushroom piece (good for use in the school greenhouses) Some trans-blue flames (brilliant for spells) Cons: Voldemort, Hagrid and Narcissa minifigs - good to have one of each but not multiples Zero (normall) tan pieces - useless for the walls of Hogwarts Another Harry Potter head - what do you do with them all? I really would appreciate it if you gave me some advice on which set to buy multiples of as both sets are really useful! Quote
sok117 Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 After the arguments you've presented, the best idea would be to find out how many you can get, split it in half, and buy both in multiples! Or you could use 75% of your money for freeing dobby, and 25% of your money on Forrbiden forest. Or If you have enough money, Just buy more Hogwarts sets and Battle for Hogwarts! Quote
Gregorovich Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 I agree with Sok117, just split your money and buy similar amounts of each. By the way, there's a tread for this in the General Discussion forum - it's called "Which set should I buy?". If you don't agree with us, you might get better feedback in there . Good luck with your castle, and be sure to show us it here! Quote
fred67 Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I don't think those are good sets for building a Hogwart's at all. I get you can use Harry's uniform, but other than that none of the figures/clothes are really repeatable. If you're trying to build the building larger, a single one of the new Hogwart's set is worth any 10 of either of those two, and you get different uniforms and street clothes for other figures. You still get stuck with another Lucius, but you get a lot more building per redundant figure. Quote
TheKingOfBuilding Posted July 5, 2011 Author Posted July 5, 2011 Thanks everyone for the feedback!I will take it into account! How do I move this topic into the Generall Discussion "What Set Should I Buy" topic? As that topic seems like the right place to put this post! Many Thanks, TheKingOfBuilding I agree with Sok117, just split your money and buy similar amounts of each. Vindice Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I'm sure a moderator can move this to the right place for you. in my opinion forget both of these sets and wait for a 3 for 2 sale somewhere. Sorry i didn't notice which country you're in but in the UK, Argos, TRU and Tesco all run a 3 for 2 sale at some point in the year (TRU have already done one) I used this method to buy 6 of the latest Hogwarts castle set for a total cost of £400. I sold one of the extra sets off when stock was scarce, taking the price down to £300 for 5 castles. Then........ i split the minifigs on ebay and sold 4 sets of Voldemort with 2 Dementors for £30 each now taking the cost down to £180 then sold 3 sets of the teachers for £25 each takign the cost down to £105 for 5 castles and more minifigs than I can shake a stick at! I will still probably sell off more duplicate pieces takign the total cost down further but i kinda like having all those suits of armour and loads of the uniform pieces. Now you can get the new voldemort in the FF set you probably wont make the same sort of prices on minifigs but you could still buy multiple castles for a small cost if you play your cards right. I have to agree with fred here, if you're wanting to build a more advanced 4842, then neither of those would be worth buying. How would buying multiples of 4865 help in any way to building Higwarts? There's not a single tan or grey piece to be had...if your wallet can handle the hit, buy another 4842 and 4867 and go from there. Quote
MattieG7 Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I know this isn't to do with choosing between 4736 and 4865, but if you don't already, I'd suggest getting 4738 Hagrid's Hut aswell. It comes with Hagrid, and the golden trio in uniform. Also, there's some pumpkin heads if you want to do some sort of Halloween scene somewhere Quote

This man is a genius! Just do what Vindice did, it sounds like a great plan to get the pieces you want without shelling out a load of cash. Quote
Follows Closely Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 This man is a genius! Just do what Vindice did, it sounds like a great plan to get the pieces you want without shelling out a load of cash. This is a lot of work, but a better strategy me thinks. The sets you mentioned are horrible sets if you are looking to build a castle, you would be better off going to bricklink or simply waiting for BOGO sales. Quote
Hoboman Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I would have to agree with those who say use your money on other sets. Find sets that have lots of bricks in the colors you will need etc. Like some fo the PoP sets are on sale, they have lots of Tan in them. If you want the walls tan, they may be a better use of your money. Quote

That may work and it may not, depends obviously on the market where the OP is. Say I sell the teachers for $25, doesn't mean that someone else will be able to sell for the same. It definitely is a great scheme on paper, but the reality of it has too many factors. Quote
Vindice Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 very true, I made the max amount of profit at the time because stock of the castle was almost non-existent in the UK and there was no other way to get some of the figures. That is beginning to change now and you can easily pick the castle up for 80 notes anyway. Still it would be a cheaper way of doing things, you just got to get creative. Good luck! Quote
