Hi, I just have a question. In the video with the Unimog trying to climb uphill using its winch, you hear a clicking sound meaning the white 24t clutch gear is disengaging. But the two clutch gears I got don't make a clicking sound when they disengage. The axle hole in the gear wheel just turns after a lot of force has been applied. Is this a new type of clutch gear or is something wrong with mines?

Some nice bits there, all I did was RC and add a second pump to fill an air tank. This was all needed to drive the tilting bed and pneumatic out riggers for the stock crane. The one thing I would like to add now is a telescoping section for the crane, I think this will make it much more playable.

That quit funny I have done almost the same as you. I have tried to attach a air tank, but after a few test that showed that would procude a lower pressure I didn't include it.

Here is a small video, mostly showing the compressor and the mechanisme for tilt the bed. Do note that the in second part, I have reinforced it or it could rip it self apart.

The problem I see with that is the Unimog is not technic-fig scale. It's actually Supercar scale, the very first large scale "construction" truck Lego has done to be so. Put your fig in the driver's seat and he will look like a child.

And I don't think anybody has answered my last question... can the real Unimog U400 tilt its bed?

Darn... now I'm disappointed that Lego didn't implement this mechanism.

I would think that the tipping bed is just another optional extra.

How do u mean gearbox only,these are what's needed for the steering conversion yes?

first post - ive just bought myself a 8110 Mog and this is my first technic/lego set in at least 15 years. Fun building - but now i want to motorize and RC the thing.

Ive serached this forum up and down and seems all experienced folk here have their own solutions to power and create their own MOCs for this. There doesnt seem to be a unanimous best practice for motorizing this.

As a newbie to all this, ive signed up with bricklink and also have downloaded the LDD software.

Currently i own:

8110

PF kit (m-motor/battery box/lights/switch)

Ive ordered 2x XL motors off bricklink...

My plan is each XL will drive one axle of the Mog and a M-mtor will control the steering

Ive installed the lights on the front bumper for kicks...would be great of i can light it up bit more.

I need a solution for a better air tank too but thats not priority.

Can anyone point me in the right direction in parts/best solutions for motorizing. Id love a LDD file that has a 2motor solution for front and rear drive ideally

I just need to know what are the parts that i can then order form bricklink.

With BL - do i just order different parts off different sellers till i make up my shopping cart or there are sellers with a bunch of these Mog parts?

I put a M motor directly on the front axle with some reinforcements. This way, you have to remove the fake engine.

IMHO, if you put a motor on the original axle in the cab, you will have a shitty steering due lots of gears with too much dead movements. You can move the tires from one side to the other before the gears and motor stop you. For the XL motor, there is the space for it, changing only one piece and using a simple axle join putting under the bed.

Yes just order the stuff you want first.Then if you can you should buy a few more 'usefull parts' or parts that you may need: pins,conectors,gears,liftarms.

Ordering from a shop with a high part's count is good as it save time.

Alastair I remember those lights years ago, I'd like to but them again if they will work off current power functions? Have u a brick link part number for the differant colour caps u can put over the light?

Did Lego ever make any other type flashing beckons ?

Your model looks good, but you took away the Unimog its special feature: the great ground clearance by the "portal axis", german "Portalachse".
