timslegos Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Thats awesome! Are there any practical uses for air ride suspension? tim Quote
DLuders Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 neomomonga posted this of a Drill attachment for his Lego Technic Unimog U400. It uses the counter-rotating 64713 "Cone Spiral Jagged - Power Miners Drill" inside a 64712 "Wheel Hard Plastic with Small Cleats and Flanges" and 64711 "Wheel Hard Plastic with Small Cleats" combination. The internal planetary gears can be seen on the downloadable instructions available for the 8960 Thunder Driller on Brickset: Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I have never seen one of those in real life. I do wish people would make proper attachments whats next one with wings and a propeller. Quote

I do agree,we need some real life unimog u400 attachment s for some inspiration, there has to be more than front mowers and plows, anyone any ideas or pics! Quote
timslegos Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I googled for like 15 minutes and couldn't find anything. How bout a small excavator on the back of the unimog instead of the bed? tim Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Why the heck would someone mount half a forklift onto the front of a unimog. Quote
timslegos Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Why the heck would someone mount half a forklift onto the front of a unimog. haha thats a good point! For some reason i would think that the unimog would not be the most agile fork lift ever... tim Quote

Siegfried Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 I just recently finished my Unimog and I was looking though this topic. I was very impressed by a lot of the ideas... and annoyed by the time it took to load some of the images. Can I ask what's the big deal with big pictures?I'm just curious as I don't see the problem! It's against our guidelines for one. But the reason why we have rules on this is; 1. It's a waste of bandwidth for everyone. It's very selfish to assume that everyone has unlimited speed and a generous cap. 2. There's no reason for it 99% of the time. It's just lazy to post an image 1024 x 768 or greater... and plain ridiculous posting one greater than 2000. That 4000x3000 image on my screen was shown at 33%. As an experiment I reduced it to my screen size (which is still too big) and the file size was 80% less. 3. It might even slow EB down because pages take longer to download. True we don't host the images, but it means the connections need to stay open longer. (This is harder to prove.) A few months back we ran an announcement about this for a few weeks, and many thought it was a bit excessive, but it seems people still don't get it. So please, stop posting huge images. 800x600 -> Big enough in most cases. 1024x768 -> If you've got a really good reason (such as a "Where's Wally" MOC) but don't make a habit of it. 1600x1200 -> Bigger than most screens. Pointless in 99% of cases; if you want to show loads of detail many smaller images would be more logical. Wallpapers would be one of the rare cases where it makes sense. Higher -> Completely bonkers. But I've got better things to do (on and off EB) than edit this entire topic so I probably won't remove any images, but I am asking nicely for people to stop it. I am just linking the pictures into the thread. They are hosted on Brickshelf and were uploaded by different users. So I cannot resize them. Sorry. Sure you can. Resize them and host them elsewhere. I (and EB) do that all the time. On a more positive note I'll see what I can do with mine. Thanks for the ideas! Quote

Alasdair Ryan Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 (edited) Alasdair, I think the poster made a fair attempt at a Auger attachment True but it was mounted onto the front rather than the back. Also the 'drill' posted by David looked nothing like the picture you posted. If done properly an auger would be another good attachment. Edited November 7, 2011 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
davidmull Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Has anyone tryed to make the rear outriggers pneumatic yet? Also has anyone built the gritter, any good? Quote
aposaric Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Also the 'drill' posted by David looked nothing like the picture you posted. . If you look at the bed of the truck, there are two of the other dril "bits" laying around. There are dozens of different purposes for them, you can use them for planting trees,or digging shallow sweet watter wells. In architecture, we mostly use them to start the pilots for pilars which will be used as a mass dissipating medium for fundation support on loose ground, or swamps, etc... Sorry for a borring answer, I have almost put myself to sleep ;-) Quote

Mr Dog Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Hello, I've been reading this thread with interest, and thought you might like to see some other attachments. The PDF files linked are the Mercedes Unimog brochures, targetted at particular industries. It would be great to see a model of the road/rail Unimog with the integral turntable unit that rotates the 'Mog on or off the rails. FIRE LOCAL AUTHORITY ROAD AND RAIL ENERGY Mr Dog. Quote
