DLuders Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 (edited) @ davidmull: Do you mean VFracingteam's of his Lego "Dakar 2012 New Unimog 8110 Orange Edition Extreme Test"? Here is a ROUGH translation from Dutch to English: "The model is Lego Technic 8110 with complete RC - 2x XL engines and 1x small engine for the steering winch....Film and fotos made [by] Edwin Korstanje and have been incorporated in the dunes of the Netherlands." Alasdair Ryan Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 (edited) My failed attempt at a backhoe Too heavy How is it to heavy, in the slew of it ? Try gearing down the pto and use a worm gear. Edited November 12, 2011 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
radar92 Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 (edited) How is it to heavy, in the slew of it ? Try gearing down the pto and use a worm gear. It would tip the whole truck when it was at 90 deg to the truck frame. Even with outriggers. It probably needed a bigger base. Also it was self contained, IR controlled it all. The battery box acted as a counter weight. Edited November 12, 2011 by radar92 Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 What about some new rear legs like those on cranes mayby telescopic ones? Quote
radar92 Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 (edited) What about some new rear legs like those on cranes mayby telescopic ones? I need to make a larger base and have wheels to spread out the weight, the turntable is just to small. I may make a second attempt after the holidays, I'll just have to share the IR rec. with another model. Out riggers do help. Edited November 12, 2011 by radar92 Quote
zewy623 Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 @radar92 maybe this instead: or for your idea where the back hoe has its own operator and rollcage, extend the bed and add a third axle: Quote
DLuders Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 (edited) Cypr-21 (Cyprien Cattet) has added his Snow Blower and Spreader for the Lego Technic Unimog U400 to Technicmad's Rebrickable webpage. See more info about them on Cypr-21's website. Edited November 12, 2011 by DLuders Quote
radar92 Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 @radar92 maybe this instead: I have a pneumatic one built right now similar to that. I need to adapt it to 8110 scale, it's based off a Lego backhoe design but slew is by PTO. I built it for Technic tractor scale before I knew how big the 8110 was. I have a bunch of trailers to convert still. I went with the other design so it would be full self contained and hands off save the out riggers. Quote
timslegos Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 My failed attempt at a backhoe Too heavy Wow nice attempt! What is the attachment on the front of your UNIMOG? tim Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 I am guessing it's a front loader. Another pic showing that would be good. Quote
zewy623 Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 hey radar92, does the back hoe have to be motorized?? im sure you can just ad some extra pneumatics (if u have some) and that should get rid of some weight, if im thinking correctly about how you built it. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 (edited) Here is somthing i made quickly it's a counterbalance, you can place it above the slew ring but below the cab (in the middle). I have added the file so you can buildit your self. Edited November 12, 2011 by Alasdair Ryan Quote

He is actually using 1 xl for driving , 1 xl for steering and m motor for winch , he just replayed on YouTube to me, he has a rear locked diff also, I'm just wondering has he installed the motor for drive in the centre like lots of us did,he seems to have better power tho :( Quote

I looked at a gradall http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=438469 I think he use the wheels to balance it Edited November 12, 2011 by radar92 Quote
sama Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 (edited) Because the Official Unimog 8110 thread is not really popular anymore, I am going to post my findings here. I don't know if you guys no but I found an interesting picture of the prototypes of 8110. Here is a picture of the prototypes. (I can't believe they scrapped the black rim idea!!![look at the third Unimog from the left]) And here is the already known image. Edited November 13, 2011 by sama Quote
T_Tank Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Wouldn't mind some pics of the very first prototype. Quote
JunkstyleGio Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 @ Sama: Would love to see more detailed pictures of the protoypes. And yes dropping the black rims was a bad idea! (Fortunately i have some myself..) Quote

radar92 Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 I likeg but what's I attached too?is that ur unimog? Yes, Its based off the U404, an older small unimog, but compatible with the 8110. The mount points are only 2 studs lower. PTO is in same position too. Quote
