I didn't want to make a new topic for this so I am posting it here. I found these amazing pictures of 8110 owned by mbmc137. These are better pics of the prototypes of 8110.

001.jpg

Very nice and mini. Cool thing is the 3 by 11 panels, yellow on the sides of the rear. It has a pneumatic crane (looks nice) pumped by hand, there is a manual winch, and outriggers. HOG steering.

002.jpg

Even better, and larger. Again its yellow. It has grey rims 'covered' by black pulley wheels. The set looks like a larger version of the first one but motorized. It seems to have the battery box in the rear tray and a polarity switch is included. There are two driving ring switches on the left side underneath the polarity switch. Crane is motorized and uses 2 linear actuators, extending the crane is manual, the outriggers seems to be motorized, motorized winch, and the fourth function is a motorized superstructure rotation. HOG steering. Personally, the crane looks ugly.

003.jpg

Looks beautiful, very similar to the current 8110. It has black rims with little black cover (doesn't really cover). The orange color is finally being considered and the red crane is on the rear. The battery box is probably on the other side and the ppto selector on the left. What I don't get is I can only see one selector for the functions, maybe another is somewhere where it is not visible in the picture. Anyways, it has motorized pneumatics (old pump is visible behind the front, left wheel), motorized winch, and most likely motorized rotation for the crane. The whole chassis and crane looks similar to the current 8110 design. What is really cool is there is a bucket attachment on the end of the crane. Whats funny is davidmull just asked a question about a clam attachment. It uses a mini pneumatic cylinder. Another mystery is the outriggers/stabilizers, there seems to be knobs attached to them. Could there be a function switch back there that enable the outriggers to be extended using the motor? Well, this set uses the traditional HOG steering. Seeing the old front view pictures of the prototypes tells us this model had suspension and portal axles. Oh, the new wheels are also included in this model.

004.jpg

Personally, this model remind about the Unimog made by efferman. This model seems to be more complex than the current 8110 model. I need help from one of you pros out there because there are 4 levers by the left side, two yellow and two red. There may also be an additional blue lever (maybe). Looking at the picture below, the new torque tube parts are used in this model. The battery box must be on the other side (if this set even contains PF). The cabin looks 'complete,' just look at the three orange panels used to make the roof. The old offroad wheels are used in this model and suspension is also included. There is a pto and a ppto (pneumatic t-piece) visible on the front and the crane looks complex. There is 4 pneumatic cylinders used in this set, one for lifting the boom, one for lifting the jib, one for extending (look at the picture below), and one for opening and closing the claw. Yes! This model also uses a clamshell excavator bucket as the attachment at the end of the extending jib. Again, there seems to be knobs connected to the outriggers, maybe they are once again motorized. For steering, this set uses its flashing lights as the steering wheel.

Here is the image used for some of the info above.

I need help from the pros for info about the levers and functions for the last prototype (the one that looks like efferman's) and sorry for the large pics.

Hello!

Thomas from Stockholm, Sweden here! First post for me in this forum.

I have added a 8848 style front scoop with three pneumatic cylinders to my 8110. Besides that I have also added pneumatics to the stabilizers, a PF switch for smoother operation, an airtank and a clutch gear on the PF motor output. Plus some extra bracing on the PF motor.

The stabilizer function itself is not modified, I have only added one cylinder to move the stabilizers up and down and they are still self locking when extracted.

With the airtank I can rotate the crane and at the same time use the pneumatics.

The extra clutch gear seems to reduce stress on the compressor; when pressure is to high the gear slips instead of the compressor sounding like it is going to break. The extra PF motor bracing also reduces noise when using the compressor.

For a few more pics see my Brickshelf account when moderated. (I am not yet allowed to post links, you have to search for member thomol).

8848 and 8110 (yes, I've added pneumatics to my 8848 too, plus an upgraded scoop)

Love this attachment :P i've made one myself from your pictures.... however i'm sure it's not exactly the same as i didn't get to see the middle part.

thanks for a nice addon to this nice truck :P

Whats funny is davidmull just asked a question about a clam attachment.

I was thinkin the same thing when i first saw the photo! IMO i would have like a clamshell better that the current crane.

Great pics,I'm really interested in the crane with the 4 pneumatic cylinders!i wonder how it works or does it also extend?

Could anyone reverse engineer that clam bucked on that 3rd mog as I'm not yet very good at this! Please thank u :)

Similar to how you extend the arm of the b model of 8081, except the first lift arm is pushed using a pneumatic cylinder. Just imagine the last picture upside down and compare the extending arm of the prototype to the arm of the picture below (sorry, I can't really explain it that well).

It looks more complicated , I'd like to see that extending function is no one else interested in this?

So who's going to attempt that clam bucket attachment? :)

I've made a prototype extending boom, am waiting on parts from bricklink to finish it. I started before seeing that one of the 8110 prototypes had an extending boom. mines made pretty differently to that one, its not a very elegant design, it works tho, bit heavy for my liking really. I'll be posting photos and asking for advice to improve it when the new cylinder turns up to test it properly.

Ok I look forward to seeing ur progress :) I really would like the see better picture of that crane above tho,it really interests me!

David, I can't PM yet as I'm a new user on this forum, but I've been lurking for quite awhile and found your posts and youtube videos very informative. I want to turn my little bro's Unimog I got him for xmas into RC. From what I gather on your youtube clip, I'd need a receiver, remote, xl motor, and m motor. Do I need anything else such as gears? (the video shows gears and parts I need but I dunno what they are on the lego site, and I dunno if I can just find them in the 8110 kit)

Also, Do I use the battery box provided? wont this kill the original 8110's power functions?

If you could let me know what other parts (aside from the 4 I listed, and if any at all)I would need to order that'd be great. Trying to make one quick order and be done with, first time dealing with Technic mods haha.

Sincerely,

Eric

Well I recieved my parts from brick link today so have built up my extending boom for the crane. I'm not entirely happy with it, I think the design could be better, it robs the crane of a little too much capacity I feel. Hopefully some people can come up with some suggestions to lighten it and improve things somewhat.

I'll let the photos do the talking from here...

It improves the distance away from the truck you can pick things up, I would have liked 2 rams back to back but I feel the weight would rob the crane of pretty much its whole capacity without major modification to the rest of the crane. I like the elegance it too much to beef it up...

Come on TLC when are you going to produce longer rams?

The extending arm is an interesting idea. Have you modded the light bar to?

tim

I've added a front light bar pinned to the exsisting orange cab peice, which you can't see and an extra orange beacon light bar to the roof, which you can. You can just see the extra ram and valve I've added for a prototype tipping mechanism. I want to make it a 3 way tipper, but am struggling with how to do it with the limited parts I've got!

Has anyone got a list of the bits I might need to order for the 3 way tipper? I've only got one other set to take parts from - 8263 Snow Groomer. I don't want to mix the sets up too much so have been using it to try and figure out how to do it then ordering parts, however this approach is tricky because the Snow Groomer has a fairly limited stock of bits and peices. Ideally I was thinking of mounting the bed on ball joints, as this is how the real ones I've seen do it, but I don't know if a part like this exists in lego...

I'll add some more photos tomorrow, the flash needed due to the light in my front room reflects something terrible off the bricks...

Seeing how big is this thread Lego should seriously think create a big big tractor...

A tractor could not be compared to the mog!

I like ur idea but it's very bulky, also it doesn't extend much and this is why we need longer cylinders.

Would you mind posting a photo?

tim

i dont have the parts to make it right now... if someone could try it that would be awesome...

You could take a screen capture of the photo by pressing the "Print Screen" key if you are using windows. when you press the button the picture of your screen is copied onto your clipboard and you can simply past the photo into PAINT or GIMP and save the file as a jpeg and then finally upload the photo to Brickshelf or somewhere else.

Why not?, a big tractor has a big gearbox and much more attachments to do.

I agree with you while the mog is cool and I love it. all these attachments remind me more of a tractor I guess it more of a European thing having a truck with attachments. It would be awesome to see lego partner with John Deere and come out with John Deere green pieces and build either a big crwaler tractor or an articlated wheeled tractor but that might just be the farm boy in me.
