dr_spock Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 (edited) I finally found the time to build the Unimog after 4 months since purchasing it. I think that is the longest I let a set sit in the box. I was searching the Internet for unique attachments and came across a cut off saw. Here is my Lego version. It's driven by the front PTO. Some other MODs I did to my Mog. Changed one of my steps to a switch for the pump and PTO M motor. Added XL and M motors and an IR receiver to drive, the Hand of God steering still works. Re-enforced the rear bumper. The tile with the 2x4 plate seems to break off easily when caught on something. Moved the side lights to the roof. Use trans studs for the front lights. Changed the cargo box to green plates. The grey box looks better on the back of my 8258. PeterleB Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 (edited) Yes, I know. But try to build this combination of the Universal Joints. It will not work. Just do a simple mechanic thinking: You have 3 Joints and 2 bearings. You can see, that this equation won't have a solution. It will fall to the front or to the back, but it will not stay in this position. Max Here are two attempts. This seems simple: And this looks a little adventurous - not so elegant: Opinions? Next I will try a little "gearbox". Edit: Edited February 8, 2012 by PeterleB Quote
timslegos Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 @dr_spock Nice saw. i saw it on brickshelf, and it is definitely one of the more original attachments so far. tim Quote
Tim S. Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Hi, I´m Tim and this is my first post. I´m playing with Lego as long as I can think. On my 30th Birthday I got an Unimog and now it is time to spand some more time with lego. Here´s my first moc on the Unimog. Further more I´ve planned to build a Trailer and other things. Pics will follow in time. Tim Quote
Milan Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Here are two attempts. Mod on first picture wont work. Angle at the bottom UJoint is more than 45 degrees-it will have trouble rotating. As I said in earlier post, try to keep both UJoints at max 45 degrees angle. That way you can use just two of them. On the third picture you dont need the second lower UJoint. The one of the top s enough. Quote
matias bendtsen Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 adapter.lxfI made this pneumatic lift, so the attachments for the 8284 tractor fits the unimog. all the 2L beams must be replacd by 2L with cross hole. and you have to add two pneumatic rams. (add a switch if yoy dont have two pneumatic outputs) Quote

I really like your front bucket attachment, it looks simple and very functional. Nice job. tim Quote
PeterleB Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 You should move the brushes forward. Rotating the brushes would not change the angle because all blue marked bricks are rigidly. Quote
T_Tank Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I know it was talked about a while back in the thread about tire chains being hard to do well THEY ARE but not impossible just a lot of patience takes 10 21 link chains to do this with the stock unimog tires. No clue how well they work cause where I live there isn't snow :C Assembly goes as fallowed 1 chain for going across the tread an 2 on the face of the tire if that makes sense I hope. Sorry for the pic size :x Quote
timslegos Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Nice chains! Even if they dont work well in snow, they still look awesome! Does someone have the tires and chains to try it out? tim Quote
Mr Dog Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I like the driven snowchains fitted to some Unimogs. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/32/Schleuderkette.JPG I'm loving this thread for all the great ideas. I'm slowly working on a pile-driver driven by the PTO! Quote
dr_spock Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I've been on a building spree the last couple of nights. Some updates to my Unimog. A trailer. It's basically a modified version of the 8063 farm tractor's trailer. A simple fork lift, making use of the winch. It takes up a whole display shelf now. @dr_spock Nice saw. i saw it on brickshelf, and it is definitely one of the more original attachments so far. tim Thanks tim. Quote
AndroTech Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I like it. Like it a lot. I can picture you, how you load some boxes on the trailer with that forklift. Quote
Robert M Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 The forklift is nice, just one thing, is there a way of making the height of it smaller while transporting as this would be pretty useless as it couldn't go anywhere outside of the yard. Also, does the trailer have dropsides? By the looks of things, it would be impossible to load it onto the trailer if the sides don't drop. Don't get me wrong, it's a brilliant improvement, but I think it just needs a few improvements to make it A*, just a few. Robert. Quote
timslegos Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Nice trailer and fork lift! I think it would be really cool to attach a pnuematic cylinder to the front so it can tilt(which might improve clearance). tim Quote
dr_spock Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Thanks guys. I suppose the fork lift could be made to extend, retract and tilt like the 8416 Technic fork lift. I would have to think about how to do it first. Quote
dr_spock Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 (edited) Version 2.0 of the fork lift attachment. It's a modified version of the 8416 fork lift mechanism. Tilt is manually controlled by the LA. The forks are raised and lowered by the PTO. It only goes half way up for now since I ran out this part... Edited February 12, 2012 by dr_spock Quote
timslegos Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Looks much better. Looks like you are in need of a Bricklink order . tim Quote
Firky Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 You could put a large pneumatic ram in stead of the large LA just use one hose off the PPTO to make the ram shorten and the wight of the forklift should make it extend again :) Just an idea. Quote
brathendel Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 (edited) First Toppic: Hello @ all and thank`s for all good inspiration in the last time! Now it`s time to show my own little modifications at the U400. I have modified the pneumatic system and have added a zylinder for the load area. An other discarded mod were two zylinders for lift the cabin - but whitin the XL-motor ist was to heavy for the mainframe. Not-Lego-like was an other mod: snow chains! I needed them for the holiday... ;-) The snowplow works not good as possible. I have to optimize it, espiacely the angel. On other mod will coming soon: two XL-Motors für driving...
