timslegos Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Hello Has anyone build a 3-Side dumpbed for the Unimog ? Martin yes someone has but i forget where i saw thee pictures. Try searching on brickshelf. tim Quote
Robert M Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 If you have a look at the first few pages of this thread, you will see a couple of examples. Quote
dfs473 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I like the big crane of Radar92 It has a bigger reach than the normal crane on the unimog Quote
dr_spock Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 The Unimog is a lot of fun to MOD and build implements for. I modified the crane so that PTO can drive the crane turntable or pass-through to drive towed implements like a hook lift trailer. The Unimog's M-motor doesn't seem to have enough torque to pull up the box. It needs some hand of God assist to get started. I might have to use an XL-motor and/or gear down a lot. Maybe a screw gear? (I should have taken mechanical engineering in school.) Heads are going to roll for this... Quote
sama Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 @ dr_spock, beautiful idea, just love it. Is the m-motor geared down at all? I think you should replace the 20t with a 20t with pinhole to reduce the friction and gear it down some more. Then I would reconsider where the LA is attached to the arm (maybe slightly up higher?). Quote
timslegos Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Nice idea, you pulled it off really well. I would suggest further gearing down in the trailer and seeing if that helps the motor to lift the bed. tim Quote
radar92 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 (edited) @brathendel Morning, Yes it rotates off a center PTO, and uses a center PPTO. the PTO is not really center of the chassis. The crane is offset to the pass side to keep the overhang down. While the crane is stock, the cross bar the pneumatics is pulled down one, the pin is one up from the hole. This keeps it from hitting the cab. I kept the crane stock so in concept I can remount it to the outriggers if I wanted too. I rebuilt the drive so I have front, rear(yellow) and center(red). Center is independent of front and rear. The compressor(gray) is also independent. I'll get some picture this week. Edited February 26, 2012 by radar92 Quote

I've added a couple more gears for more gearing down and it works now. It's a bit slower but it now can pull the box from the ground up. Quote
timslegos Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I figured that would work. Good to hear you got it to work . tim Quote
brathendel Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Regards @ all! It`s time for some pneumatic modifications Last weekend I´l have rebuild my snowplow whit some modifications. The pneumatic valves are replaced into the cabin, so that the "driver" can switch it.... The snowplow had become a new color (black) and some little other changes. Look into my brickshelf folder: Snowplow: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/brathendel/8110-MB-U400/Snowplow/8110_mb_u400_moc_snow_plow_002.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/brathendel/8110-MB-U400/Snowplow/8110_mb_u400_moc_snow_plow_003.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/brathendel/8110-MB-U400/Snowplow/8110_mb_u400_moc_snow_plow_005.jpg Pneumatic: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/brathendel/8110-MB-U400/Pneumatic/8110_mb_u400_winter_edition_008.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/brathendel/8110-MB-U400/Pneumatic/8110_mb_u400_winter_edition_010.jpg @radar92: Thanks for your information - i`m looking forward to your pictures! I think your trailer could be larger (1:12?) regards - brathendel Edited February 28, 2012 by brathendel Quote
Robert M Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I think I see a fatal error. Once the trailer isn't in use, and the Unimog is driving, with the linkage between it, when going round a corner, and over a crest, wouldn't there be strain on the shafts? I know there are the joint there, but I don't think they could handle it, unless of course you've already tried it, in which case, ignore me. Robert. Quote
dr_spock Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Hey Dr.Spock great innovations! But: have you thought about the scale? I think your trailer could be larger (1:12?) regards - brathendel Thanks brathendel. I am not sure about scale in Lego. What is 1:12? I got into Technics a couple of years ago and am not that advanced. I was aiming for a small hook lift trailer as my parts are limited. I think I see a fatal error. Once the trailer isn't in use, and the Unimog is driving, with the linkage between it, when going round a corner, and over a crest, wouldn't there be strain on the shafts? I know there are the joint there, but I don't think they could handle it, unless of course you've already tried it, in which case, ignore me. Robert. I think it is ok as long as it doesn't go to extreme. Between the two joints are 3 dark grey pulley wheels. One joint has one wheel attached and two 4L axles fixed to it. The other joint has 2 pulley wheels attached and the two 4L axles from other end slide freely through the holes in the wheels. It allows for expansion and contraction as the trailer turns and/or moves up and down. I guess to do extreme offroading, I can disconnect the joint from the PTO point. Quote
Robert M Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I suppose it works then, my bad. That idea of yours, for it to be able to extend and contract is good. Quote
brathendel Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 @ Dr.Spock Yes, i thought the scal 1:12 or 1:12,5. By the way: nice table circular saw!! regards - brathendel Quote
Phantom59 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I modified the tray into a drop side. I had widen the tray so the sides drop clear of the rear wheels and also made a truck side Conveyor belt for lifting small hay bales as the truck moves forward http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/311881 I also used Black Tire 94.8 x 44 R Balloon (from 8063-1 Tractor with Trailer) on the front it is a lot easier to HOG steer Quote
timslegos Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Nice conveyor belt! How does it hook up to the PTO? tim Quote
Phantom59 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Nice conveyor belt! How does it hook up to the PTO? tim The little wheel operates the belt, there is no PTO involved Quote
timslegos Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Ohhh okay i thought it was connected to the PTO. If possible, i think it would be really cool to drive it with the PTO. That way the conveyor would be able to move when the truck is moving. Just an idea. tim Quote
PeterleB Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 (edited) TWH Unimog I found this nice toy in the web. This is my attempt with LDD I like this combination of colors, but some parts certainly don't exit in white color. And here the LDD file: 8110_THW.lxf Edited March 2, 2012 by PeterleB Quote
DLuders Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 The 'Mog looks good in blue! Thanks for sharing your LDD .lxf file. Quote
timslegos Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I like the blue version a lot. is it a different body on the same chasis? tim Quote
dr_spock Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Blue is a nice colour. I think Barman76 may have converted a 8110 to a blue cab. A Bricklink order of a pneumatic cylinder arrived and another attachment for my Unimog has been built. The arm is raised and lowered by the LA attached to the PTO. Pneumatic switch controls the bucket from 8043). I also have an airtank on order. I assume that will help make the pneumatics work better? Quote
