mike4slund Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 (edited) Hi Mike, replace those 2x1 light bluish grey Liftarms with one 9x1 Liftarm. And fix the gear with one half bushes. Pat THANKS! Why didnt i think of that!. lol. and i figured out my gear skipping issue on the steering as well, i had to remove the stock steering (stops) and now it works decently. it still skips under high load though. :( still having some gear slipping issues with the drive train as well. Pat-Ard Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 No problem... Hmm, I don't know why the gear slips... Maybe because I remove those drak bluish grey 1 1/2 pins in the light bluish grey frame. So the steering has more way... Pat Quote

Pat i did that as well and that helped tremendously. but occasionally it still skips...does your not slip? Quote
Pat-Ard Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 The gears slipped only once, after that I placed the three half bushes... Then the problem was fixed. Oh, and I try not to steer while standing - learned that for my drivers license ;) It works though, but I don't want to stress the gears too much... Pat Quote
mike4slund Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 i added this to the front to support the front and keep it from lifting up during stress, doesnt get in the way and it seems to be working z little better.. (gotta replace that broken piece, although, its only used for spacing) Quote
Markus1972 Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Pat and Mike, thanks, your pictures helped a lot! Markus Quote
Rishab N Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 (edited) This is off topic but can you buy orange 5x11 panels from lego direct? Edited February 2, 2013 by Rishab N Quote
DLuders Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 (edited) This is off topic but can you buy orange 5x11 panels from lego direct? Yes, probably, but you should dial 1-800-838-9647 (Lego Customer Service in the USA) and ask them yourself. "Lego Direct" IS Lego Customer Service (which is listed at the bottom-left corner of the Shop.Lego.com website). They say that they "...are available 8am to 10pm EST Monday - Friday and 10am to 6pm EST Saturday and Sunday. The best time to call us is between 10am - 8pm (EST) Monday - Friday." You will need a Credit Card, and this Lego Element ID for the orange 5x11 Lego Technic Panel (which I got from the PDF Parts List at the back of the 8110 Unimog U400's official Building Instructions, Booklet 5): 4580014 . That number tells The Lego Group the specific part AND its color. The Bricklink Part Number means nothing to them. IF one knows the Lego Element ID, one can order up to 10 different line items of Lego parts that are in sets produced within the last 5 years. Popular parts sell out quickly, and once they're "Sold Out", The Lego Group doesn't make replacements to satisfy demand. One USED TO BE ABLE to order 15 different line items, but that was reduced to 10 because two old ladies in the "Parts Picker" department got too tired filling orders! As far as I know, there is no stated limit on the NUMBER of parts one can get in each Line Item. Edited February 2, 2013 by DLuders Quote
Kronos Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 I was told that the 5x11 orange panels were licensed, and therefore could not be sold to me. There is no limit on the no. of parts per line item. Quote
davidmull Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 I have never ordered parts from lego but that" pick a brick "is useless, I can never find parts i want even with part numbers, maybe this is why you have to ring. Dluder how's my spelling lol :) Quote
DLuders Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 @ Kronos: Since the (Bricklink Part Number) 64782 "Technic, Panel Plate 1 x 5 x 11" only appeared IN ORANGE in the (licensed) 8110 Unimog set, I suppose you're correct. @ davidmull: Quote
Korni Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Maybe if you only need one of the parts from a LEGO set, you can order a replacemet for a "broken" part. It is very usedul fir me, because you don't have to pay sometimes. You only have to order a replacement part for a LEGO set, you want and then you must order the part, you want and then you will get an e-mail, that they will contact you, if they have a problem with your order( if they want to have money from you) within two weeks and if not you will get your " free parts" within two weeks by post!;) But if you order too much parts in one order, you can be shure, that they want money from you! So this is my perfect way to get one special part I need for FREE!! Quote
stefan_betula_pendula Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Very comlex and interesting work. Hope you can show us video of such deep modification:) Yes, I will definitely do this as soon as I have a bit more of time. Maybe I can make some small videos of the essential functions without video editing etc. Hi, I refer to my earlier post to an similiar model: http://www.eurobrick...dpost&p=1362969 regards, Peter I can't see your point. The portal axles are still part of the Unimog and the ground clearance on the side of the Unimog is the same like the original 8110. It’s also really easy to remove the warning marks at the back so you have a more compact bumper which also increases the ground clearance. @ stefan_betula_pendula Gratulations! Realy good ideas! I`ll hope the gear will work even in "hard action"? I had some trouble to tame the torque.. regards, Brathendel Your two gear mechanism was also an inspiration, thanks to you! My objective was to use only 16 tooth gears for the high gear and the combination 8/24 for the low gear. The torgue was such high that the high gear didn't work because the gears got the effect of gearing up (24 to 8) the low gear when the high gear was working. Therefore I had to gear down both gears. Hi folks, did some pimping to my trailer... The mudguards look better now... I like the support wheel. What do you think? Pat Just small improvements but much better!!! Best Unimog so far for me !!! Thanks a lot! This is my first Mod since I left my dark ages. @ stefan_betula_pendula have you noticed gear slipping/clicking under high torque? ie trying to climb small obsticles? There is no gear jumping or something like this. But as I mentioned above I also had to gear down the high gear by the combination 12/20 to avoid gear jumping. Otherwise the torque would be too high, especially when the gears of the low gear (20/12; 20/12) are moving during the use of the high gear. The low gear is especially for the use of attachments or when the Unimog is used as a “quadtrac”. I will try to make some short demonstration videos next weekend. Quote
Petorious Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Hello guys and gals this is my first post and also my first attempt with the Lego digital design software, as a child (now 26) I was a massive fan of Lego and had masses of it. I regret but sold it all through the year, and have suddenly had the urge to buy this Unimog as the only one to have, I think this is doable as this set is a great large basis for many ad-dons rather than other sets, so I plan to design and build all sorts for it. So far I have finished off my first design which is the easy bit, now its to get hold of all parts and build it. This may take time lol. Features working spinner and belt feed. Anyways hi and here is a few pictures Thanks Pete Quote
Pat-Ard Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Hi Pete, welcome to EB... Very nice spreader. I'm redesigning mine too at the moment. Would you mind posting the lxf? Pat Quote
Korni Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 (edited) But it's Free! ;)no, you know what I mean This is only a simple trick and I' m not criminal or what ever Edited February 5, 2013 by Korni Quote
Korni Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 (edited) I did this two times and I know that this is not gentleman like. Sometimes you don't have the money to buy some expensive parts everyday as a student at the university but you want to build something and you have three of these special parts but you need four! What would you do? You have to pay for your rent and for food and for energy and for water and you have to pay for your hobby. Maybe someone knows, how much a student earns per month and maybe someone knows, how expensive it is to live for rent in a flat in a German city. You have to find a way to save some money and the first is to cut something from the hobby. Remember that not everyone has enough money for millions of LEGO parts every week! bmollema Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Here my version of this great design. I added 3 motors to control the all standard functions via RC, I changed the hood so it can be opened now and added doors and lights on the frontside. The dumpbed can tilt sidewards. It also has now window wipers. I did not motorized the driving and steering because it is more fun to play with this way. See fo more info http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/353375 Quote
