Minifig Lecturer Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 (edited) This MOC is inspired by the Land Rover Tangis used by the Police Service of Northern Ireland. Although I haven’t tried to copy the exact positioning of aspects of the armoured vehicles, (for example the lights, wing mirrors, signage) I hoped to capture a decent enough reflection of the real thing, keeping in mind it had to be 4-studs wide. You can see the real thing here. I heard on the news today that the PSNI had a delivery of 60 new Tangis. Looks like they will need them tonight. Edited July 12, 2011 by Serengeti Quote
Tamamono Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 (edited) Great job, Serengeti, I love the Land Rover! It's a nice size for a police vehicle, and the fence piece over the windshield is brilliant. Edited July 12, 2011 by Captain Tamamono Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Nice 4 wide police van, though scale might be an issue....I feel it should be a 6 wide vehicle so it can carry riot police ! Still it does scream 'Stop, Police !' Brick On 'Serengeti' ! Quote
buddy Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Great MOC! It looks like the real thing and I too like how you have used the fence piece over the windscreen. Very well done. ~buddy~ Quote
RoryoCox Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Being from NI, I really like this MOC. The scale might be a bit off but the design is fantastic and really looks like the real thing. Thanks for Sharing these great little things with us Quote

You are right lightningtiger, larger would fit more officers :) As my favourite vehicle sets are from the 1980s I only do 4-wide cars and trucks when MOCing, otherwise the different scales on the same roads just look silly to me. Captain Tamamono and Buddy, thanks for the kind words. Burman, I am particularly glad you liked it. All the best, David Quote
Ralph_S Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 This doesn't should out Land Rover to me at all. I understand that there are limits to how accurate you can build a four-wide, but the proportions are off. The Nissan Cube is the first car that springs to mind when seeing the shape! The wheels aren't chunky enough and the nose looks too short. The colour scheme is pretty neat, as is the grille over the windscreen. Clever parts use (although not without precedence). Cheers, Ralph Quote

Cheers, Ralph The real vehicles don't resemble standard Land Rovers- they have a different proportions due to the high roofline, as well as having deep skirting around them to prevent explosive projectiles from getting under. The wheelbase could be a little longer, perhaps (I suspect the 'real thing' is based on either the 110 or 130 wheelbase landie). I think its a very good rendition for a 4-wide. I only wish that there was no need for them in this day and age. Quote

PSNI TANGI LANDROVER by NW54 LONDON, on Flickr Yes, the roof is a bit taller and the space between the bottom of the vehicle and the ground is covered in one way or another, but the proportions aren't all that different from a regular Land Rover. I guess I'm just more critical than you are. I wouldn't have guessed that these were supposed to be Land Rover Tangis if that hadn't been in the title of the thread. Cheers, Ralph Quote
Firebrickbuilder Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Good old meat wagons. Great job, and I am speaking from experience. ;) Quote
CityBuilder Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Nice Land Rover, I didn't know they were ever used as police vehicles. Quote
ER0L Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 The vehicle as such is cute, but it couldn't be understood as the recreation of a Land Rover even three years ago (see Ralph's comment), when the topic was published (take a look at the date). Today such a vehicle rather indicates how strongly Lego car building has changed within the past few years. Quote
