Corioso Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Brig "Admiral Forster" Hello everybody! I have finally decided to create my second vessel - brig "Admiral Forster". More photos at my Flickr! Now I used the real drawings. Therefore, the ship is more historically correct than the last. Thanks for watching! Quote
cb4 Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 This is really beautiful. I particularly like the gingerbread-work on the stern. The only thing that bothers me a bit is just how low to the water the stern-galleries are. They are lower than the gunports and I'd be terribly worried about the ship getting pooped by a following sea. The helmsman and the captain are also really exposed. Maybe you could raise everything up and have the gingerbread act as the quarterdeck rail. In any case, I'm sure you know best - right now you have a functional cabin which is hard to do in minifig illusion scale when you're trying to follow historical plans. Quote
Captain K. Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 It is a very nice ship, i like it so much. The stern and the functional cabin a great. Good job! Capt. K Quote
Dread Pirate Wesley Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Hey this is great! A really nice looking brig. Love the use of arms on the stern and the color scheme. Only 2 things I would suggest changing is the rigging extends really low over the side of the ship, and the stern seems a bit low. The stern galleries should be at the same level as the gunline, I know that would be difficult to do but it would improve the overall aesthetics of the ship I feel. Its a great design though, with some interesting elements and it compliments your other ship very well! Keep it up Dread Pirate Wesley Quote
greg3 Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 That's a nice looking vessel... I agree about the stern looking a bit low in the water although it does look similar to This (a paper model I found of HMS Thunderer a 14 gun Ketch rigged Radeau from the American War of Independence and a vessel I'm in the process of MOCing...) so I may be "borrowing" some of your ideas (If you don't mind) Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 What an amazing ship! The brick built hull is awesome, the colours look splendid and the detail at the stern is stunning! The rigging and cabin interior looks cool too. Very well done! Quote
Tazmaniac Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Great ship, love it to bits! That'll look good on the front page. [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] ......soon Quote
De Sandman Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 It looks good, a little bit low...but good... i like the arms on the stern (gives me ideas ) Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 That's a beautiful ship! My only suggestion would be to use 1 window on the side, instead of 2. That would make it appear longer, now it is a bit short looking. Quote
Pudz426 Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I saw more ships with low profile recently, they are impressive. They give ideas of more building techniques. I like it Quote
Sebeus I Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I have already seen it on mocpages, either way, good job, I'm inspired, I'm building a similar ship right now. This design works great for the Interceptor (POTC) Those new hull pieces actually do have some advantages. I guess there's an up- and downside to everything. Quote
JPS97 Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 As the brig is my favourite type of ship I applaud you for making this. You did an excellent job on the ship with my favourite part being the cabin. Hope to see more work from you! -JPS97 Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Excellent job! Especially the masts and rigging look great My only advice would be to make the deck more narrow towards the stern, like here: And as CGH said, perhaps 1 window on the side looks better. The windows don't make the deck wider there because they usually have a small roof like this. Outside of that your ship looks very good and I love the decorations. Especially the arms are clever.
