Mrlegoninja Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Thanks for letting me play, Def! I have really enjoyed it. More so than other games. The inclusion of the cards was really cool. That was a wierd trick that you played on us. Although I gotta admit, it was tough.
def Posted July 17, 2011 Author Posted July 17, 2011 About solving the mystery, remember, it only takes one player to solve it. It was the only way the clues made sense. If one player put things together, the rest of the players should see that it made sense. To support this idea, I never updated the character list to take dead players out. Also, I repeatedly emphasized player participation. And lastly, I hope everyone noticed that I never said convicted players were dark ones, but only that their corpse was. The whole thing was fishy, wasn't it? Thanks for letting me play, Def! I have really enjoyed it. More so than other games. The inclusion of the cards was really cool. That was a wierd trick that you played on us. Although I gotta admit, it was tough. Glad you liked it, though I'd call it a twist more than a trick There will be no cards in Bloodbrick II, but I guarantee there will be some new and unique gameplay.
JimBee Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Well, that was an interesting game, i enjoyed following along. Although, I can say that I never would've figured it out, I just don't have the mental capacity for mysteries of any kind. Thanks for another great game, def, and kudos to the ones who played well. At least you guys did the best with what you had, and I thought that using extra witness cards was particularly clever. Although, in retrospect, it all turned out to be just paranoia. One more thing that I really liked was the card designs. They were just cool to look at, especially at the part where the two figures join and an interesting effect is created. I still can't figure out what the witness card minifig is holding, though.
Brickdoctor Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I'm now immensely excited for Bloodbrick II, def. I love new twists that force players to think outside the box. I still can't figure out what the witness card minifig is holding, though.
robuko Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Now it all makes sense, why did the dark ones not go for 6 kills on day 1, the applesauce, the "both sides could still win" which was impossible, and KV staying on the active participants list all the way. Great game def. If only I had woke up sober this morning....well, it probably wouldn't have mattered anyway....but I would have looked more closely at the applesauce The only part that still makes no sense to me is how we could have clues referring to the killer on day 1. Congratulations Dark Ones.
def Posted July 17, 2011 Author Posted July 17, 2011 One more thing that I really liked was the card designs. They were just cool to look at, especially at the part where the two figures join and an interesting effect is created. I still can't figure out what the witness card minifig is holding, though. thanks, I was going for a playing card effect. It was easy to choose the knife and magnifying glass, but I was stumped for that third one. My Lego has been mostly packed since I moved, and I couldn't find a Lego camera. So... I just put that thing in and figured imagination would do the rest I figured the setting was unusual enough, the mixture of Skywalkers and trolls, and Arabic clothing. Plus the stupid names Personally, I was happiest with the cards and the avatars. I really liked the avatars. I was unhappiest with that MOC, which I think I built in about 40 minutes. I put a heck of a lot more effort into building Bloodbrick, but that was a game that demanded a lot more in terms of a narrative. Still, I had a heck of a fun time hosting this, particularly on day four
robuko Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 First and foremost, thanks for a great game, def. This is me, Day One: We lynched a scum! Day Two: I didn't die, and we lynched a scum! Day Three: I didn't die, and we lynched a scum! Day Four: I didn't die! Something's amiss... I won? I won! I won! So...yeah. I had a great game. Only about two to three hours of despair. The rest was thrilling, elated excitement. I don't want to spoil anything for readers who didn't read the scum writeboard, but let me just say I really wish robuko could've won, too. Thanks Brickdoctor!
def Posted July 17, 2011 Author Posted July 17, 2011 The only part that still makes no sense to me is how we could have clues referring to the killer on day 1. That was the one cheat of the game, to get the ball rolling, but it was balanced at the end of the game when it's revealed he hadn't been killed. I was debating whether to just give random clues, and instead decided to choose a random player to incriminate. Regardless, someone needed to die day one.
badboytje88 Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Def thanks for hosting such a wonderful game. I loved being a part of it. And thanks for the honest feedback.
Eskallon Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 (edited) First off I would like to say a big thanks to Def for allowing me to play in this spectacular mystery game, also a thanks to Si-Mocs for helping out and keeping me company on Day 2 when everyone else was sleeping. It has been very enjoyable and I look forward to seeing more from you both in the future. Now I would like to say a personal message, 9 Games, everytime innocent. 9 Games, evertime dead. 1 Game, a winner. Congratulations to all my fellow Dark Ones for winning and well done to the town for nearly solving it. I swear Mugg Kupp was doing really well on like Day 2 and then completely abanded his theory of the clues having more to them. Def, where do you play all these weird (but very clever) games? Edited July 17, 2011 by Eskallon
def Posted July 17, 2011 Author Posted July 17, 2011 Def, where do you play all these weird (but very clever) games? I belong to two atheist forums that runs games every two or three weeks. The games are closer to real time, with a few time set ups. Usually -12 hour days, 12 hour nights -16 hour days, 8 hour nights -24 hour days, 12 hour nights That means games last a week, and you can play 20 games a year. It improves your game a lot, and the focus is always on team wins, so everyone is active. Also, with that many games, game runners get a lot more innovative in adding twists. In Bloodbrick, the PR role (the tie break decider/vote submitter) was definitely something I learned from there. I created the Garden (clue area) on my own, but I've played a few games there with puzzles to get hints. They're hosted on atheist sites, and to be honest, atheists have pretty good senses of humor and a high average education level, so I really enjoy these games. There aren't really any kids playing either. But there are lots of places hosting mafias if you look around. I think most healthy forums have them. It's a trip to play your first non-EB game, since standard mafia games finish in a week. I certainly wasn't ready for it.
Sandy Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Wow, I did not see this one coming at all. Now that I know what the game is all about, I love the concept. Too bad it can never be repeated in this forum again. Thanks for hosting such an innovative game here, def, it really was a breath of fresh air. At first I saw the silly figs with silly names and thought "what the hell is this?!", but when the game processed, it looked like an ingenious mixture of Mafia and the Guess Who? and Clue boardgames. Congrats to the winners, even though the game really was for the Town to lose.
Professor Flitwick Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Yeah! Go Dark Ones! Go Dark Ones! Go Dark Ones! Yeah! Sorry. I'd first like to thank Eskallon and Kartoffelviking for killing me, and bringing me into the winning team, the Dark Ones! A wise choice indeed! I was also going to apologies to Dount for having my investigation of them lead to their death, but ah, you won didn't you? And I'd also like to thank def and SI-mocs for hosting, with a great game, great twist, great setting and story, it actually makes my happy I didn't make the cut in Belville (no offence meant Quarryman )!
def Posted July 17, 2011 Author Posted July 17, 2011 I'd actually made a promise to myself to let you play, Professor, as an apology for picking on you in the Furry mafia, and you did well. Then I see you have written on your profile that you're 16 Why do you do that? This is an adult site!

Then I see you have written on your profile that you're 16 Why do you do that? This is an adult site! Well, thank you def, but it's all in the past now. You didn't need to do anything special, but I thank you regardless, and I am happy to have met your approval. The staff know I'm under age, and as long as I behave appropriately and maturely, they have no problem in letting me stay. And besides, it's not like it would be encouraging other, less mature -18 year olds to join; only members can see my profile, so only those who had already signed up would read my profile.
Rumble Strike Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I didn't suspect that at all. This was only my second Mafia game so I'm pleased I got another pass. We were all so fixated on the concept of Townies versus Dark Ones that no-one stopped to think about our incredible streak and what it actually meant. I have to admit, I thought by the end of Day 3, with 3 Dark Ones found, that def had tried out this witness card/investigation concept and it hadn't worked very well, that the balancing of the game was off because of the power of the investigations. I'm so naive! But a lot of fun, thank you to def and Si-Mocs, thank you everyone who played, some great discussions in-game. I got worried when it was myself and MacK as suspects, cos I knew I was Town, and that meant he was definitely a Dark One. Because I remembered just how well he'd played in Fabuland Housewives as Mafia, I knew he wouldn't give me many opportunities to suspect him. He was very cool about the whole thing, and I was considering the possibility that he was Town as well, but I'd never looked much further than a few clues at a time, and it's clear now that we should have been looking much harder at the overall thing.
KartoffelViking Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Thanks for a great game, def, and SI-mocs! Imagine my surprise at the end of day 1, when my only consolation was that I would be found to be an innocent townie, I find myself a Dark One instead! From then on, it was such a treat to read the day threads. Sometimes I really felt for those targeted by the clues, other times I chuckled to myself as suspicions and accusations were flying in various directions The hardest part for me was to decide who to kill on night 1. I wanted to kill Brickdoctor already that night, and while I still don't think that was a particularly bad choice for the Dark Ones, it would have led to a very different game. I might have seemed a little bloodthirsty, and suggested some cynical moves, but in the end I think I would have been quite happy with town winning, just from the sheer entertainment provided by the hapless townies And how would I have done as a townie throughout the game? I'm not sure. I questioned the game mechanics on day 1 in a PM to def, but I'm gullible and easy to convince everything's hunky dory, so I would probably have trusted the clues to the bitter end, and gotten killed in the process. Maybe. Anyway, I had a blast, and I hope to play with you guys again!

We should play more games together. Every time I win, it's because you're controlling whether or not I die at night.
Mrlegoninja Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Oh I forgot to add. Def: The only reason I stated I didn't need the card is because I was already a suspect in that case. If I had used it, I don't think that anyone would've believed me.
def Posted July 17, 2011 Author Posted July 17, 2011 Oh I forgot to add. Def: The only reason I stated I didn't need the card is because I was already a suspect in that case. If I had used it, I don't think that anyone would've believed me. I know you felt confident, it was just a matter of exploring all available options. I think players from this game will be a little more paranoid and overcareful in the future... And that's a good thing!
Donut Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I love plot twists and this game was no different. I am ashamed to say I underestimated the complexity of this game and broke the rules by PMing. But I had fun nonetheless! To Darkness members - Sorry I couldn't help out, but you guys pulled through. To Townies - You guys did great considering the huge disadvantage you had. To Si-Moc - Props for doing a wonderful job of staying vigilant. And to def, thanks again for hosting a terrific game! You're awesome!
Bob Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Bob the Construction Man - Fail - Sorry Bob. I really expected more from you, because of your experience and the fact that you've hosted mafias and mysteries. More participation, more interest. I think even if someone had figured out the mystery, you locked a vote in ten hours earlier and didn't check back in. In all honesty by the time I was able to participate, all of the Witness Cards were played for the day and I got repeat clues. I would have liked to have participated, but by the time when I looked at the thread in the morning, my time, there were four pages. When I returned in the evening to post again, there were roughly double that, if not triple on certain days. There was simply nothing to contribute without repeating what everyone else had said. I'm a bit disappointed in my participation as well, but there wasn't much more I could say or do. Off that subject, it was a great game, very different than others. Excellent hosting job, by both you and Si-Moc.
MacK Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Damn I feel so stupid, I have to hand it to you def, it never crossed my mind that the Dark Ones were in fact the dead. I figured out early that the Dark Ones couldn't be communicating (at the very start of the game at least), but after I took some flak for meta-gaming I stopped thinking critically, and treated the game as a regular mafia. I was impressed that the Dark Ones hadn't killed one of there own. I was so sure that ram was a Dark One, but there was no way for me to prove it. I see now that the lack of an investigation wasn't meant to be a hindrance for us, so much as it was meant to help us. I really wasn't as active as I should have been on day four, I just blatantly ignored any inconsistencies. I'm mad I feel like I just wasted so much effort, I think I'm going to nail some kittens... wait no I love cats... I'll go nail some bitches instead.
