de Gothia Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Hi again, it´s time for newest project and also my smallest! Built on a 32x32 plate. My first attempt with yellow roof. Not sure if I like it or not! The Royal Lions Cedric, the owner of this manor have served his queen well as an war advisor. He is proud to wear the lion emblem as an honor to his queen, but have given the crest a little twist. Now he is retired and his biggest concern now days are to keep all the men away from her daughter. C&c are always most welcome! more pictures here when moderated: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=478893 de Gothia Quote
Artifex Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Very nice! I really like your MOC. I love it when people mix 'stone' and 'wood' in their historic MOCs, and you did it beautifuly. The windows are just great - the one on the front, first floor, looks really, really cool! The flowers on the windows are a great touch, too. I do get the yellow roof, and it's a nice break from the usual black or red, but it seems a little too bright for my taste. But that's me, and I really like your MOC! One question: what about bringing the roof a little bit out in the front entrance? I guess 1-stud will suffice, just like it is on the other side of the building, over the door. Just my one cent worth of tips. Nice work! Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Excellent MOC 'de Gothia'....the mix of stone and wood - perfect for the period ! Great tower structure and nice house attached too ! Keep up the cool work 'de Gothia' and Brick On ! Quote
Pallantides Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 As usual de Gothia, your MOCs are absolutely amazing, and this one is no exception. I like the flow of everything, and the yellow roof reminds me of a kind of "thatching". It looks rather nice, although I agree with Artifex in that it's a little bright. Although I don't find that a problem when I continually look at the image. It's only when you first look at it, that you notice it suddenly pop out at you. But when you stare at it, it's not so bad. Keep up the great work, I enjoy looking at these (especially since I don't have enough of the pieces that I would like to have to make something like this. I have a lot of generic pieces, and a fairly substantial number of glowing pieces from the "Lego UFO" theme; since I was very big into that, although now I quite enjoy the castle line and I wish I got more of it when I was younger). Hoboman Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 (edited) I really love this MOC. Th etower and home are wonderful. I am unsure about the yellow roof, the jury is still out for me on the color. But the build is wonderful. Keep up the great work! Edited July 18, 2011 by Daniel's Dad Quote
AwesomeStar Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 (edited) Excellent work yet again, de Gothia! I agree with lightningtiger, the mix of stone and wood is perfect, almost Norman-like. I love the stone tower, it just seems to be covered in little details and makes use of many interesting piece usages and building techniques. It's also rather nice to see the original Knight's Kingdom emblem and pieces work their way into a MOC. The yellow roof looks fine to me. As others have said, perhaps it is a little too bright, but that really is no fault of yours. It certainly reminds me of a thatched roof. Tan may perhaps be a more accurate colour, but I feel that it would not work well with the "classic" feel you've got going on here. Oh and your photography, as usual, is impeccable. Always a pleasure to see a MOC that is presented well. Great work, keep it up! -A.S. Edited July 20, 2011 by AwesomeStar Quote
Stephle59 Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Good job. I love the yellow roof. The color scheme is interresting. And the mix wood and stone is great. Quote
ziljin Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 That tire rim or whatever it is called looks great as a window detail! Quote
L-space Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 This is loooking good. Great use of the space on a 32x32. The yellow roof looks okay too, maybe add an overhang? Keep it up. Quote
de Gothia Posted July 20, 2011 Author Posted July 20, 2011 Thank you so much for all kind words! The overhang yes, well it´s a misscalculation from my side. It´s supposed to be an overhang on both sides, but in my building I totally forgot it... Thank you so much again! Next up is the queens sons castle. de Gothia Quote
Zilcho Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I love this moc! It looks so cosy. You have managed to fit a lot of detail into a small area. Well done! Quote
tedbeard Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I have to say that the tower is the highlight for me. The yellow roof is kinda nice as well but the shape and height of the tower is just lovely. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 You've done great work on the tower. The yellow roof looks pretty good, like a thatch roof, but I think it's too bright and draws the eye away from the other good things. The usual tan or a combination of the two might've worked better. Quote
