Oky Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 I wonder if Stark's first Iron man helmet looked that big as well Actually, it didn't. If Lego is listening, please, PLEASE just make the Iron Man helmet a normal minifig helmet! You mean a racing helmet? No thanks, I'd rather take the official version. I do agree, though, that just a printed head might have been better, but then again, we wouldn't get a Tony Stark head in that case.
Blondie-Wan Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Here's hoping for a complete assembly of the LEGO Justice League. I see what you did there. These themes are going to bring about scads of "Avengers assemble!"-type puns, I suspect...
Ceroknight Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Actually, it didn't. I know I wonder what the sets will be like, most superheroes tend to not have vehicles...I hope it won't be like megablok's sets with random made up vehicles
Oky Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 These themes are going to bring about scads of "Avengers assemble!"-type puns, I suspect... Hehe, yeah, I was already planning a single-pane licensed funny with that title where the Avengers figs put themselves together.
Algernon Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Wow - how did I miss this?? I can't wait to get a first look at the sets!
Masked Builder Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Ivy is amazing! Can't wait to get my hands on her! Most of the others aren't bad.....
vexorian Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 (edited) I think I am going to dedicate myself to LEGO superheroes next year. Holy monopoly LEGO! But not that I am complaining. Regarding the Avengers, I hope they expand on to "Earth's mightiest heroes" (The current TV show) territory as well. They could do M.O.D.O.K and some hydra tanks and I would actually like antman... I hope they don't include heroes from two different universes in one set..that would be like having Jar Jar Binks with a X-Wing I doubt it would happen. They literally win nothing from doing that as it would allow some people (who just wanted the specific characters) to buy less sets . I also think they would have to pay double license for that set and thus the set would have to get more expensive for less bricks and it would be harder to sell. Plus perhaps DC and/or Marvel wouldn't like TLG to combine their licenses like that, for example, the DC contest site explicitly bans characters not owned by Warner. @images: Hulk and Iron Man are obviously preliminary. Hulk's face and Tony's helmet are preliminary and I doubt they are even plastic in that pic. Hope they do something about the helmet (I see no reason it to be soo large except for being preliminary). My main complaint right now is that Hulk will seemingly not be able to move his legs. And that Cap's uniform is dark blue, though I guess that's for movie accuracy. Wolverine looks great. I hope the line lasts for more than one wave and they get time to remake the more classic costumes, specially for Marvel. The DC guys seem to be closer to the classic look. shmails Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Note to self, start saving now!!! This is very exciting, I can't wait to see the first round of pictures.
The Blue Brick Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Yes they are preliminary still. My friend is at comicon and asked he also is still trying to get the free minifigures. Sadly hes keeping them for himself.
lego wonkyeye Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 (edited) These figs are great!!! I escpecially love Ivy, Wonder Woman, Wolverine and Thor but I think hulk should be a bit smaller. I want to like Captain America but I don't yet. I hope the sets will be a decent size so they're not just sets under 600 pieces. Also did anyone else notice that on the website it says there will be a batcave set? Edited July 21, 2011 by lego wonkyeye
BeKindRewind Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 (edited) Understanding that these figs are likely still prelim at various stages, and coming from a DC guy with little love for Marvel, my first thoughts on the figs: Joker: not really better or worse than the original IMO. A nice new costume for him to be wearing. Poison Ivy: preferred the original's torso but the hair is a vast improvement. I'll probably mix the two for my displays. Catwoman: only slightly different than the original, with the same headpiece. Batman: why is it not the same as the teaser pic? Will they release two different Batman outfits? The display looks just like the original, so maybe it's just a place holder. Superman: love it! Wonder Woman: also love it! Cap America: definitely more akin to the movie than the comic as far as color but looks nice. Seems a bit odd to have no headpiece with the stud exposed for some reason though, when the character does wear a helmet. Thor: looks okay, can't comment as not a big Thor fan. Hulk: I agree that the size is appropriate for the character but it still seems un-Lego-ish. Iron Man: can't say more than what has already been said about the helmet ("It's like an orange on a toothpick!") Wolverine: nice that they went with the comic yellow instead of the various movie versions. A very nice rendition of the character. Edit: Correction, the Batman outfit on display isn't the same as the original, so maybe the one on display will be what the sets will have, and the one in the teaser is an exclusive given away just at ComicCon? tin7_creations Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 (edited) As the maker of custom Superheroes here on EB, here's my review of the new minifigs. DC Line Minifigs: Joker: Love the new torso design. Poison Ivy: Exquisite. Catwoman: Seems to be the same one from before. Batman: Nothing special. Superman: Love the hair. Wonder Woman: Sexy and beautiful as she should be... and the golden lasso... OMG! Marvel Line Minifigs: Iron Man: The helmet is an uber fail. FAIL. The torso is beautiful though. Captain America: Very, VERY similar to the one I made a few months ago. VERY SIMILAR. Thor: The hammer looks good. But the hair looks a bit too light, he needs a darker blonde color. Also, where is his helmet? Hulk: Incredible; I hope they find a suitable face for it. I also hope we get Bruce Banner. Wolverine: Love the face, love the new claws. Overall, I give these minifigs 9/10. Cheers, ~tin7_creations Edited July 21, 2011 by tin7_creations

I also don't think they could of done him up any other way.
Wowplayer Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 This is Awesome news!!! I can't wait to get a list of the upcoming sets (an pictures of course). I have almost every set in the batman theme, and I love them all. I can't wait
David Thomsen Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 (edited) I'm not a big superhero fan and I won't be buying this theme, so I don't have much to say... but I do love Superman's hair and will definitely be giving it to one of my pirates. Hulk is just a Lego-compatible action figure. I also kind of agree on Iron Man's head. Before I saw it I thought the helmet might look silly as an ordinary minifig head-piece with printing on it, but this actually looks sillier. Edited July 21, 2011 by David Thomsen
Derek Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 That awkward moment when the preliminary Iron Man figure looks like a Pez dispenser.
SpiderSpaceman Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Hulk: Incredible; I hope they find a suitable face for it. I also hope we get Bruce Banner. now you've got me wondering if Dr. Banner would fit inside
tin7_creations Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 now you've got me wondering if Dr. Banner would fit inside That was exactly what I was thinking of. That somehow Bruce Banner would fit inside the Hulk, or some sort of transformation mechanism.
vexorian Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 (edited) Hulk is not so unlego-ish, it is what LEGO has been doing for large scale figures ever since the rock monster in the rock raiders. Plus I don't think the designers had many choices. If they went the minifig route, he would be way small. My biggest concern about Iron Man is actually if they use gold rather than yellow. Every attempt to reproduce the movie Iron Man (using golden colors) looks really bad in plastic. And even the custom linked in a post way above looks less good because of it. The shape of the head is so blatantly preliminary that I am fairy sure it will change, but the color ... It seems they will insist on it. Edited July 21, 2011 by vexorian
Zip Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 (edited) Although I do wonder what this mean for the Hero Factory line, especially if they are doing buildable figures as a major part of the theme. It's not something I particularly like, but it's always a bit sad to see original lines being sidelined in favour of licensed products. Spot-on. I honestly think that these look terrible. Especially that Hulk: In terms of action figures, Mega Bloks did way better. Edited July 21, 2011 by Zip
tin7_creations Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Spot-on. I honestly think that these look terrible. Especially that Hulk. OMG it's Ben 10!!! Why LEGO WHY????
Ceroknight Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 What the... I would have totally prefered something related to construct-a-buzz/zerg..
Mesonak Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 (edited) Well, for those who enjoy Hero Factory (like myself), the amount of recolored pieces here is stunning. Far better than Ben 10. I fear the reaction this will draw from the AFOL community at large, however. I'm impartial to these large-sized figures; a great source of recolors for fans of Hero Factory, but poor sets overall, and a bad representation of the license. Especially Hulk.
