VBBN Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Wow. CGI sure makes a lot of difference, doesn't it? Definitely getting Iron Man, though I'll be modding his huge megablocks shoulders. As for Hulk - very disappointed they still gave him those gunmetal parts, it puts me off completely. Cap looks better, if I get him I'll remove those shoulder pieces. But one thing I don't like about him is that his head looks exactly like Batman's but without the ears. Not really surprising, If we ever get a superman, I would bet its a remold of green lanterns. The heads seem like they would be slightly more costly to produce, so I can see why lego would want to take a short cut for it. Quote
Masked Builder Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I genuinely hope that sometime we get a female character in the Super Heroes Ultrabuild line, seeing as that could inspire TLG to make some Hero Factory armor pieces that are suitable for building female characters. Of the heroes and villains I know, I think Catwoman's probably one of the best candidates on the DC side of things, as she does not have a particularly revealing outfit in most incarnations, is fairly well known, and doesn't have much "gear" that might be awkwardly represented as in the cases of Joker and Captain America. (Batman, Green Lantern, and Iron Man all look fairly good IMO, and Hulk is pretty decent in everything but the colors of some parts). Of course, the likelihood of a female character in the "Ultrabuild" sets is limited by the fact that female action figures don't tend to sell as well as male ones. This is also the reason why there are few female characters in the BIONICLE and Hero Factory themes, and why those that there are rarely are obviously female in physique. In a licensed theme I can see how TLG wouldn't want to take that risk, especially since with licensed characters they don't have total creative freedom and so can't "sidestep" the gender issues as easily. There's always a possiblity of getting Black Widow or whatever her name is when we get Avengers sets. Quote
Aethersprite Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 There's always a possiblity of getting Black Widow or whatever her name is when we get Avengers sets. I doubt it. Most kids wouldn't know who she is, and she wouldn't be 'cool' to them anyway since she doesn't have any powers. Quote
K-Nut Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I doubt it. Most kids wouldn't know who she is, and she wouldn't be 'cool' to them anyway since she doesn't have any powers. Hey, she's a total badass woman in tights! That's powerful enough! Quote

I think Catwoman would be the female character we are most likely to see, if one at all. It would be interesting to see how they do her back (but no tail, please ) Quote

It would be interesting to see how they do her back (but no tail, please ) Unfortunately, my guess is that would probably be the case if they do Catwoman. I find TLG is unnecessarily bulking up the characters, possibly to bump up the price tags. Iron Man's bulky shoulders? Cap's weird shoulder armour? No thanks. Darth Nihilus Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 The new Superheroes Marvel action figures are on Barnes and Nobles.com for pre-order! Captain America $14 Hulk $14 Iron Man $14 Wait, what? The Marvel sets are cheaper than the DC ones? That makes absolutely no sense. At all. Quote
dviddy Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 It makes a little bit of sense, Marvel is doing better financially than DC, has more profitable movies, comics, and television properties. As such, the licensing fees might be lower for Marvel than DC, since the two comic companies are competitors, and Marvel is standing at a bit of an advantage in that arena. Quote
just2good Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Wait, what? The Marvel sets are cheaper than the DC ones? That makes absolutely no sense. At all. Really, they're only cheaper by $1. Target are currently selling them for $15 each. Maybe these won't include a Comic Book (which cost $1 to make). Quote

Which I must say, I found boring by the standards of the other DC LEGO comics Of course, they may only have it in the back of the instructions like the Catwoman set. Quote

Why must they have villains to fight? The long tradition of superhero "vs." comics should be evidence enough that it's easy enough to come up with contrived reasons for the heroes to fight each other instead of needing villains. Quote

Which I must say, I found boring by the standards of the other DC LEGO comics Of course, they may only have it in the back of the instructions like the Catwoman set. They all appear in the Avengers film for this summer, so I'm willing to bet that the comics would feature then all fighting together against the main villain of the film , even though the main villain doesn't appear in set form. Or perhaps a dark ominous Marvel force. Or Iron Man and Capt could both fight against the Hulk? Quote
SoupOrFishOil Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Or Iron Man and Capt could both fight against the Hulk? As soon as Aanchir said his bit about them not needing to fight a villain, Hulk came to mind, I think he would make sense. Unless of course, LEGO want to depict him always as a hero, just like Catwoman is purely depicted as a villain (in the LEGO comics, magazines, website, and videogame). Quote
vexorian Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 The silly armor could suggest he is in the World War Hulk arc. Nah, that's just silly. Quote

Vinyl Scratch Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Looking forward to using the recolors on Iron Man. Any info on when the Marvel sets will release? Magazine says that they would all release in May. Maybe that way, after all the three DC sets could have been early releases like the Breakout sets. Quote
ZORK64 Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Magazine says that they would all release in May. Don't forget that the release date in the catalogue is the German release. And in this case, it also affects the DC sets. However, it's indeed possible that the Marvel heroes will hit shelves in US around the same time, since they're probably a summer wave. Why TLG decided to release all six sets in may here still confuses me though. Quote
Cirkit Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I'm trying to convince myself that The Hulk is wearing a dirty white or grey shirt on his shoulders.. so far, it isn't working. The CG images look great. I'm looking forward to a lot of the pieces, particularly the gold and red pieces in Iron Man. I'm not too thrilled for Cap, something just looks off about him to me. And, well.. we've got enough red in Iron Man. I would have expected someone like Thor to be released instead, with his movie coming out before Cap's, and be released with black and yellow parts to change it up a little, but oh well.. I'll be anticipating the arrival of the sets at my local Target. Quote
VBBN Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I'm trying to convince myself that The Hulk is wearing a dirty white or grey shirt on his shoulders.. so far, it isn't working. Just imagine it as iron shoulder armor! Of course, last thing Hulk needs is armor.. Quote

Maybe that way, after all the three DC sets could have been early releases like the Breakout sets. Just like with the system marvel sets, they're listed on the USA Barnes and Noble website, preorder, available May 1st, 10% off. and I would expect they'll try to get it out worldwide around the same time since it is linked to the film release.
