What set/sets brought you out of your dark ages?

I bought this for my stepson as a gift. He had played with Lego before, but never owned his own set. I got hooked again when I helped him build it. Within a few months I had all of my old Lego sets dusted off and setup in my office, now dubbed "Legoland."

The set that got me collecting new Lego for the first time post dark ages was 10210 Imperial Flagship http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/10210_Imperial_Flagship

The Harry Potter line of fall 2010 got me out of my dark ages and I asked my mom for them for my birthday/Christmas that year. But technically the first set I bought myself was a second Hogwarts castle to modify the first one I received. But after that was Kingdoms Blacksmith Attack. That brought back my love of classic castle and I never looked back..

The 8069 Backhoe Loader brought me out of my dark ages. I ordered it online during the last days of 2012. 3 more sets have followed, the last one ordered on Saturday.

10184 Town Plan

It was actually a decision to build something after 10 years that brought me out of my dark ages, not the set itself. But upon this decision and having browsed through my old lego I also started to look for a new decent lego set and found this one. I liked it because it was huge and designed in more or less classic style, i.e. no panels for walls etc.

Mine was the madalorian battle pack, I even went as far as hiding them from my girlfriend until one day I thought meh, she's been buying me figures ever since!

For me it was the Grand Emporium. I "accidently" found a stack of them in one of my local toyshops in december 2010 and I was "sold" at that moment. Since then I have all the modulars, incl. MS and the Mini Modulars among over 200.000 other bricks. More to come. Lovet it!

3178 seaplane, actually it's not the set that brought me out of my dark age but at that time I was interested in planes and when I saw the 2010 airport lineup I was into Lego again. I first bought the seaplane and slowly buying all the sets in the 2010 airport lineup. Since then I started buying sets from themes like City, Creator, and Friends, building them, and displaying them.

The 9493 X-Wing. Was just wandering through Target looking for a present for my son's birthday when I saw it. Being a massive fan of the OT, I thought I'd just pick it up since it was on discount. When I was putting it together, it reminded me of all the times I had spent with my own father putting together the sets, and making MOCs when I was young.

It was the first Lego set I'd bought in about 20 years. Now I can't stop buying them :)

In general, the Lord of the Rings series. I just kept thinking about them and thinking about them, even though I hadn't bought a LEGO set in over two decades. The Battle of Helm's Deep set especially caught my eye. Even though I *still* don't have it, it's what made me ask my wife for a LEGO birthday party two months ago.

I hope this is not considered necroposting, I think this topic is timeless!

The sets that broke my dark age was the Fantasy Era King's Castle Siege (7094) and Tower Raid (7037) (I bought them together, taking advantage of a good discount).

To say the true some year before I bought a bionicle set for a present, and I was very tempted to buy an Exo Force set (probably the 7700, that I bought recently).. so it seems that my dark age was not so dark! Anyway the Fantasy Era sets was the real trigger.

For me it would be the first Indiana Jones wave of sets, I buying the Motorcycle Chase, and from there it took off.

I stopped buying Lego for about five years in my teens. Then when I went to Uni I happened to see the big yellow Lego lorry down to a tenner in Tesco, and thought I'd buy it for the hell of it. I was really taken aback by how detailed it was and how complicated it was compared to the old, <insert that tiresome argument> City I was used to. From then I just went and bought up every City set... much to my wallet's demise.

December of last year I noticed the LEGO Movie in the library and expected it to look fake and boring, but gave it a try. I was surprised that it looked just like actual LEGO stop-motion, so neat and fun. I pulled some Belville fairy-tale sets out of the garage to see whether I'd enjoy them again. Out of curiosity I searched Craigslist for LEGO and this set popped up and HORSES!!!! It was all over for me.

Hmmm... I never really had a Dark Age. Even though for some years I did not buy or play with LEGO, I still kept me updated on the situation and got the catalogues. And my collection never was never stowed away when I lived with my parents.

If I take a look at my collection in a chronological order (year released), I can see that the last set I bought as a "child" was the 6597 Century Skyway - I was at least 15 years old at the time. But already from 1991 and onwards I just have a few of the sets released.

Next bigger set bought was released in 2000, namely the 3406 Blue Team Transport - actually times three, as I wanted busses for my city. Since then I have bought and been given LEGO on a rather frequent basis again.

In the years inbetween LEGO Town also went downhill, so I did not really miss out much on the sets sold in the late 90s and beginning of the 00s anyway. Luckily the quality is much higher now.

I think I had no proper Dark Ages period but after 2004 the amount of LEGO I bought decreased.

Castle Fantasy Era revitalized my interest, especially when I got 7036 Dwarves' Mine, one of my favorite sets ever!

In 2010, 8683 Collectible Minifigures Series 1 got me back in the game!
