I only bought my first train set last year (the red passanger train) and that's where most of my train related part such as wheels and connectors come from. I recently bought extra train wheels and two connectors and decided to try and build something. I have a locomotive and two train cars built at the moment, tho one of them is still unphotographed. I hope to make two more (I need to get some extra connectors tho, the red train came with four and I bought two more) soon. Anyway, here are the pictures: Some things I'm unsure about, such as the tan stripe in the train car and the nose of the locomotive. Comments are welcome! Quote
22kane Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Not bad. Im curious what the rail car is. It almost looks like a small box car with home siding on it. The locomotive reminds me of a Frankenstein model that railroads used to do. They would take a bunch of useable parts from other engines and create an oddly built switcher engine to work in a nearby yard or platform. No doubt an EMD nose on it. I say keep the tan stripe, it's a nice addition. Good work. Quote

lightningtiger Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Nice work 'Hypersonic', my only suggestion is the roof of the wagon - the positioning of those 1x1 30deg. slope pieces...either at the ends, or dividers along the way would look better - more uniform shape. I am curious as to how you made the ridged texture on the train car. I think it is a very nice design that accurately captures the texture on actual rolling stock. The diesel locomotive features a lot of great techniques and element usage as well. I particularly like the SNOT work on the cabin, and the collectable minifig bases used on the sides of the diesel. Keep up the great work, I think trains is one of your specialties now. Quote

Is there a specific real life train you used as inspiration or is it just your own design? You certainly made use of some fine techniques to achieve a very smooth look on both models. A couple of minor things you may want to work on: I'm not sure about the lights on the freight car, unless they're meant as some sort of reflectors. And a locomotive with a full width engine hood wouldn't need handrails -- except perhaps a couple of vertical ones to reach a door. Welcome to EB and I look forward to more or your MOCs! Quote

Hypersonic Posted August 8, 2011 Author Posted August 8, 2011 First of all, I am sorry for it taking too long to answer your posts, I was on a 2 week vacation and there was for whatever reason no internet signal there. Anyway, thank you! The rail car is supposed to be some kind of a box car, I saw one while browsing trough Wikipedia but am unable to find it again. The locomotive wasn't inspired by any real locomotive, however I spent hours looking at various locomotives and decided to take the elements of them and put them into one. So I guess it is sort of a Frankenstein model. And I will try this with the slope pieces on the roof, I didn't think of that, thank you! Quote
