Yay! Interesting to finally see a head print on a helmeted figure. Though I don't like it that much, it could be useful.

It's not unprecedented. Stormies at one point had smilie faces under their helmets.

Where'd you hear that? I've been collecting SWL since 1999 and don't ever recall Stormies having smilie faces? Mabye it was a US/EU difference back in the day?

None the less, I'm hoping this tie won't cost too much. The last one, 7263, was RRP $50NZ over here. Although my logic is telling me they can't be compared.. Those figs probably took a bit of designing, and the ship is bigger.. And Lego is more expencive these days  Oh well, I'm still really looking forward to it :cry_happy:

That idea of a new AAT would be quite nice with the new release of TPM, and I wouldn't complain if they did a half decent redesign of the Gungan sub :sweet:

I have a Stormie magnet from '07 that has a flesh smilie underneath the helmet.

Hi,

ok, the T.I.E. is a very good improvment (very x2 nice) and Queen Amidala seems to be really great...

but what about the expected UCS ???

And Scout troops has faces too.

Let's not forget the Jango Fett minifigure and the Clone Wars Phase I trooper.

@_nours:That's funny - with all the hype over the new TIE/ln it's almost as if we'd forgotten about the supposed second exlcusive set for this year.

They were only goggles printed on, not a whole face :classic:

Ahh.. magnets. That'll be why I haven't noticed before

That's been LEGO's pattern for the last couple of years.

Ah. So not confirmed on the TIE's price, even though he added no question mark, just educated speculation.

WOW 2012 news (rubbing hands together) . Love the new figs, new figs are always welcome. Nice to see a face on the Tie pilot. Cant wait to see detailed pics of Amidala, she is looking great. R5 head is great, i want to see a white an red version come out.

Not a big fan of the new Tie cockpit window, dont like the rounded look. Maybe it TLG made a window that was only 1/4 circle not half circle it may have worked better. It really should have the same angle curve as the rest of the ships body. The ships body should be pritty much a round ball, and not have the window sticking out of the body. Anyway the new wings are a great design, and hopefully the will be a bit stronger that preivious designs.

On the projector shot of the Amidala fig, it looks like there's a item number before her name up in the left corner. Anyone make it out?

well i have to say, the wings of the tie fighter look really great! that's a change from the previous ones... the midsection looks pretty much the same, though...

i'll assume it's a prototype but it's got potential, that's for sure

The TIE fighter looks excellent and the new figures are the best choice. The only downside would be that the new fighter now doesn´t fit in with the older TIE sets because of the changed cockpit and that with a doubled price (most likely it will be 50, just look at the size and figures, it has many similiarities with the Halo) makes it harder to build a fleet out of it. If I can sell my two old TIEs and there is some nice discount this one is mine.

Endor Rebel Battle pack (?) $11.99

Scout/Storm Trooper Battle Pack (?) $11.99

(?) $24.99

(?) $24.99

TIE Fighter $49.99

(?) $59.99

(?) $39.99-$49.99 (Retailer Exclusive)

(?) $39.99-$49.99 (Retailer Exclusive)

Exactly how I picture the new wave of sets. Seeing how LEGO went with ANH and TESB themed BPs the last few years and how they now made a new mold for the Navy helmet who was a prominent soldier during the battle of Endor there is no other option left.

Regarding the contents of the BPs:

I think multiple Scouts don´t make sense without multiple Speederbikes and by the looks of the Snowtrooper BP two Bikes are too much for a single BP. Stormtroopers are also out of the picture, LEGO seems to avert releasing battlepacks with figures from older battlepacks, otherwise there would have been a second battle droid BP already. For the people that still want Stormtroopers I can picture a set similiar to this years Battle of Naboo with several Stormies with some kind of transport or tank from the EU being released this or next year.

With those two soldiers out of the picture the only logical solution seems to include two Navy Troopers, a Scout and an Officer. Navys are the only other kind of soldiers during the battle of Endor that would make sense to include multiples of.

The rebel BP probably includes four Rebel Commandos from 2009s playset with different heads and maybe two different torso designs. The movies rebels all have customized uniforms with differences in colorscheme, equipment and obvious things like jackets. Reference pic Ewoks are too expensive with their complex printings for Battlepacks. Otherwise Ewok Attack wouldn´t have been so risible small. But calling this set an Ewok BP backup isn´t going to work. Most of the Ewoks were tan or brown with cloth around their heads. Takkot is a black Ewok and I can´t remember more than two of those running around and Lograys headdress is unique to his character. There need to be more Ewok sets, hopefully for a release in 2013 in time for ROTJs anniversary.

Thanks everyone who supplied the pictures and links!

  • The NEW TIE fighter is looking really nice. The detailing on the panels is really, really nice especially the SNOT edges. I agree the cockpit may be a little too bulbous; it does look like the designers ahve tried to take this into consideration when creating the cockpit shape, but I think I would've been happier with a solution using a 6 x 6 dish. That said it looks great overall.
The big bonus come with those new minifigs. I own several of each of the current versions, but these new release have been tweaked to make them that bit more special: the TIE pilots's evil grin, the Death Star trooper's new helmet, the awesomness of R5-J2! It's such great line-up, TLC have been very shrewd in including them with such an iconic starfighter. Certainly, I reckon this has guarenteed mutltiple purhcses from ME... I'm sure from more than a few others here!
  • As far as PRICE goes, I feel the Bounty Hunter Assault Gunship is about as close a set gets for comparison to this from what I can see with parts useage/count and the number of minifigs. I reckon that puts the TIE fighter firmly at the £40.99 level - $49.99 for our US pals.

  • NEW Queen Amidala looks lovely. I think this is a sign that we'll be seeing the Naboo Royal Starship. I'm keen to hear more news on this. There's a fair bit of wishful thinking along the lines of price on this forum, but what about this: a CHROME Naboo Royal Starship in the UCS range? With this minifig as an exclusive? I reckon if TLC released THAT people would be ecstatic!

I've collected LEGO Star Wars from release and the only Stormtroopers from that era that I owned had blank yellow heads. I'd say that was the traditional format for production set releases. Traditional Scout Troopers have goggles and an expressionless mouth. I haven't seent he newer versions.

I've seen afew people complain about the new TIE not fitting in with the old sets. Why would you complain?! That just means over the next year to 2, we maybe getting a new Interceptor and Bomber in new colors and hopefully with wings that are built like these! Possibly even a new Vader's TIE.

Out with the old and in with the new!

Because I don't want wings that have the thickness of a brick. It looks good from the side but coming right at you it's less accurate than a ten year old model.

tie-f1.jpg

See how thin those wings are supposed to be? You're better off modding the original for the side look.

I agree with you 'Stoutfiles' on the thin wings....solar panels are thin !

But then again would you prefer brick-built wings or Mega Blok style <insert that tiresome argument> wing panels ?
