I genuinely cannot understand the level of negativity here. I suppose everybody is merely stating their opinion, but it comes off as sweeping condemnations.

No amount of acronyms, matters, and in reality, there should be no such divisive ideas as AFOL or any such thing. Lego makes great products, and as a company has an a mazing record and standing both in its local and international community, and in the business world. They can be enjoyed by a wide variety of peoples, and the products are for us all, you should not feel slighted, or relegated to a specific demographic based on your perception of a model.

That being said, I hope someday, despite the freedom the interent, and forums allow, every naysayer takes a moment to breathe, and realize that the model is MADE out of LEGOS. You can change anything you do not like about it. And so if the worst thing about it is that it costs too much, then you can Download the instructions for free from Lego, and build your own. If you do not mind the price, and dont like the parts, you can substitute your own. You can use it as a guideline for a great creation of your own.

Expressing yourself here is one thing, but this all reeks of vitriolic exaggerations, and really detracts from any sort of productive, sensible discussion. Any employee of Lego, or outsider reading this, could not help but to be left with the impression that Lego fans here are never satisfied, constantly disappointed, unable or unwilling to compromise, and for some reason still buying Legos, like some sort of addict in denial. Is this how you mean to portray yourselves?

I think you might be getting the wrong impression. I for one like the kit, it looks very well done, but the price is why I will not be getting one. With the amount of really cool kits that TLG is putting out this year I just can't fit that one into my Lego budget...Hey, a guy's gotta eat, and Lego bricks are a little too crunchy to me!

Urgh, for $200 I'd rather have R2, to much for to little.

Okay, so my son and I looked at the pictures of the new B-Wing a little closer today and he just told me something very interesting. He thinks it looks like The Twilight from The Clone Wars only smaller. I don't think I've ever heard that comparison.

I thought of the B-Wing when I first saw the Twilight. So I guess great minds think alike;)

Looking at those hi-res pics, the set is growing on me! $200 is a bit of a stretch, but it looks great and I might just have to pick it up.

Do we have the piece count of the B-Wing? For $200 it must have lots of pieces.

Ah, shoot. And here I figured I would pass on the B-Wing...... guess not.

I don't think there is any, or at least not very much, negativity around here concerning the model itself. It is a wonderful model. Yeah there are a few things that some might have wished were different. Mainly the canopy and maybe a minifig or two. (Yes, we're like crack addicts over the minifigs. Just accept it.) Really any negativity over this set seems to fall squarely on the price. This is a conversation we have been having over a lot of sets lately. But the Star Wars ones seem to be getting particularly bad for this. Big high priced sets normally come out with a very very reasonable price per piece. Often at or below 10c/piece. The forthcoming Huanted House is well over 2000 pieces for that same price as this. And is if anything a more detailed and fascinating model for it. The questions we have aren't if it is a good or worthy model. It's gorgeous. They did some amazing things with Lego to get those shapes just right. The question is the price vs the value. The designers did a superb job in making it. The Marketung and Accounting people, not so much.

Finally the B-Wing!

First 5 seconds, it looked amazing then I saw the video and more pictures of it and it seems..lacking..

It also seems to have some sketchy and fragile builds..

I'm glad it doesn't have minifigures because it isn't minifig scale and UCS traditionally don't have any.

I want to wait for first reviews but $50 more for the Imperial Shuttle for me.

Now that I know this set doesn't have Minifigs I shall buy 2!

On another note, my first impression of this set is quite good. Perhaps I'll make a brick built canopy, but I like the fact that is uses many obscure pieces. Aside from the canopy, I think the cockpit section itself is actually very well done.

Well, the high price and the fact I would have to buy more pieces to re-do the cockpit area to be completely satisfied with it... I was holding off on the Haunted House to get this.. but because of them reasons... I'm now decided that I'll be getting the high priced but slightly more worth it Haunted House instead =/

Thanks for the comparison cavegod! I'll amend my previous comment, actually the cockpit doesn't look that bad after all..the 'canopy' just looks a bit to narrow to me. The image on pages 146-147 of Sculpting a Galaxy suggests that it should be; perhaps it just needs some sloping pieces either side of it?

I'm surprised how relatively inexpensive this will be in the UK (it's UCS after all!), so I'll probably end up getting it when it's double VIP time, or similar. Shame they didn't put some power functions in it though, it would have been a nice addition

That's a nice comparison shot. It really does look accurate, even more so than some past UCS sets (like the Snowspeeder). The canopy doesn't look that bad, but it's definitely the least aesthetically pleasing part of the model. I'll probably be getting this come October.

Dam it Cavegod, that comparison certainly isn't bad at all! Although I still prefer your cockpit version over his... his just doesn't seem to quite hit the nail on the head for me, not least for the price that is being subjected to us for... but seeing that comparison, I'm more tempted to definitely get it than I was before that comparison pic, just not so soon-ish/immediately...

Indeed! I did not really appreciate how accurate this model really is, until cavegod posted that side by side comparison. Except for the cockpit it seems spot on, and even the cockpit doesn't seem quite that bad when i look at it like this. Actually, in this comparison, i'm not a big fan of the big orange dot, i feel like red would have been a more appropriate color.

I must say, the more i see of this set, the more i like it. Though i liked the set right away, i wasn't completely overwhelmed when i first saw the designer video. But with the high res pictures and now this comparison, i'm really starting to appreciate the detailing and accuracy and my enthousiasm for the model is growing a lot.

This Latest UCS is impressive, but for the price i am going to have to pass which is a shame . What i am curious about though is, has anyone seen any news lately about the Pre Vizsla fighter? ive yet to see a review of this set but last i heard it was released in June? Alittle confusing .

I just checked Shop at Home for you and 9525 Pre Vizsla's Mandalorian Fighter is a available here in the Netherlands, so i figure it has to available elsewhere as well. But so far I have seen no reviews of this set yet.

So far the B-Wing UCS set looks really great - the canopy can be discussed, but I'll have to see it in person. I think the reason that a few people have mixed feelings about the general design of the ship, is that they compare it to other people's MOCs and not the film model itself. Like an official model, a MOC is always the designer's interpretation. So expecting to see two different interpretations match up will always be unsatisfactory. However, comparing the official model and the various MOCs out there with the film model, I must say that the official model looks like it can hold its own.

Regarding the price point; Lego is not cheap, and SW UCS Lego is very expensive. However, I don't really understand this arbitrary discussion of brick count vs. price. First of all, the cost of individual bricks varies greatly and this set seem to utilize many obscure parts. We might as well discuss the length of the model vs. price and as such, the B-wing is much cheaper than say, the UCS R2-D2. A model represents much more than simply the sum of its bricks. Different models have different design procesess and some models goes though more iterations and longer test periods than others - all of which is part of the price.

Of course Lego also wants to earn a pretty penny and considers market segments and marketing budgets when pricing a set. But they also give away their designs freely, so you can BrickLink all their models if price per brick is your concern - and buy any minifigs to put in the models, should you so desire

So far the B-Wing looks like a day one purchase for me - maybe I'll mod it but I don't know yet

When I first heard that Lego was going to release the B-wing, I was not very enthused. I pretty much decided I would probably not be buying one unless it was well thought out and reasonably priced. (unlike the SSD) After seeing the high resolution pictures and the video here, I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised how much I like this model, even though it did not have much screen time. (guess it’s just nostalgia for me) I’m not a fan of mini-figures, so that is not an issue for me. I actually like what he did with the cockpit and the use of the old tractor pieces is great! (more nostalgia for me) I will be buying this pricy, but attractive model. (maybe two, one to resale later when they’re in high demand cause no one bought them) Superb job on this model to the designer and TLG, you got this one right!

It loos good, but I would like a minifig scaled one sometime.

The B-wing is a decent model if I had money to spare I would buy it. But there's some good stuff coming up that I could use that money for.

$200 for 1500 pieces I'll have to pass on this one.
