djmangunz Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 (edited) Capt. Kirk , the majority of the AFOL here appreciate the fact that you are opening up dialog between the designer and the fans. Not something we often get a chance to experience around here. Very cool. Hate to disapoint but to my knowledge there's only one Endor Battle Pack coming containing: 2 Endor Rebel Troops, 1 Storm Trooper, 1 Scout trooper a speeder bike and a small tree with a flick fire missile. The other Battle pack contains: 1 ARC Trooper, 1 ARF Trooper, 2 Commando Droids and a republic Artillery canon. Personally, I love this idea of having both good and bad characters in a battle pack. Here's hoping that we will see these in stores this winter. Especially if we would get a new helmet for the ARC trooper, like what was seen in the show in season 3, and a different variant of ARF troopers. Also commando droids are long coming and I am excited to see them in a set. Thanks for the information. Edited July 29, 2011 by djmangunz Quote

Also, it is most likely we get a new variant of ARF trooper. I'm hoping for Jungle or Geonosis Camo, but a Rancor Battalion one would be alright, and make sense. Also, I'm wondering about the Endor pack. In every battle pack we have gotten at least one new figure (except in 2007), so I think we should get one. Maybe the commandos will be redone? djmangunz Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 (edited) Gotta say that I was personally hoping for Geonosis camo mini-figure, but I would imagine that the printing would be quite complex. I agree that we are more likely to see a Rancor Battalion print. However, I would give my left nipple for a version of ARC trooper Commander Colt in the battle pack. (Disclaimer, this is an exaggeration, I love my nipples equally and would not give up either of them) Edited July 29, 2011 by djmangunz Quote

(Disclaimer, this is an exaggeration, I love my nipples equally and would not give up either of them) The Camo print is possible, but Rancor battalion is more likely. It's just that I already have a bunch of Arealight ones. But now that I think about it, I like TLG's ARF helmet design much better than Arealight's anyway. So a Rancor one would be great. For the ARC trooper, We'll probably get a yellow or a blue one as a generic ARC. Since they would have the new helmet mold, then it's possible we get him in a later set. Speaking of which, I'm still waiting for my Pre Visla! Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 There are several good ideas here, most of which would make good sets. I'm not a fan of the "full size lightsaber" idea (not something I'd regret not buying at all, I've already got an FX lightsaber). Unless TLG finds a way to improve the chrome bricks, a Royal Starfighter just wouldn't stand the test of time. Most people I know who own the UCS Naboo Fighter have experienced the chrome chipping. I definitely wouldn't want that to any degree, let alone an all-chrome model. Jabba's Palace, Cloud City, and new sets from AOTC all sound great to me. I really hope that the "playthemes" referred to by Capt. Kirk mean that more location-based sets are on their way for the Star Wars line. *ahem* Tatooine!! *ahem* Quote

Delta 38 Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Actually, for some reason the first thing that came to my mind after reading Capt. Kirk's post was the Dark Reaper. Talk about obscure... Well, at least I'm not alone. I haven't even heard of that before. I'm still trying to work out what this means. The Empire either relates to The Empire Strikes Back, or the actual Empire. Somehow, I don't think Jabba's Palace fits in with the Empire hint, though I would like one either way. A rerelease of the Sail Barge would also be great. Quote
legofett5 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Hey, he said return to the shadows of the empire, so maybe its something the empire actually took from the rebels or something. Or it would make more sense if it was something the rebels stole than the empire recaptured it. Any ideas? Quote

The_Chosen_1 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 The phrase "Shadows of the Empire" itself immediately makes me think of the book of the same name. Maybe an Outrider set isn't too far off. Quote
brickbuilder Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 The phrase "Shadows of the Empire" itself immediately makes me think of the book of the same name. Maybe an Outrider set isn't too far off. I seriously don't think we are getting an Outrider. I'm not sure if it was even a hint. Like the "UCS Lobot" hint last year. Everyone thought we would get a Cloud City, but we didn't. LEGO should know by now that EU doesn't sell. But then, just watch us get an Outrider next year, and me feeling like an idiot Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 I agree that the chances of getting an Outrider, let alone an EU set at all, are rather slim. That "shadows of the empire" part just seemed like too much of a coincidence. Quote
october Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Shadow of the Empire = Imperial Star Destroyer Quote
Fallenangel Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Shadow of the Empire = Imperial Star Destroyer If you want to interpret it literally, the most fitting concept would be the Orbital Nightcloak. But given how obscure the book is, it's certainly not a candidate for a LEGO set. Quote
mutley777 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 I know this MOC has been floating around for a few years but i would love it if Amidala came with something like this. Maybe a few chrome tiles on the top to smooth it out a bit more. Quote

The other Battle pack contains: 1 ARC Trooper, 1 ARF Trooper, 2 Commando Droids and a republic Artillery canon. Your really got me surprised. On the one hand i, too, would wonder if TLG were out on a policy change to mix up sides within a BP. On the other hand you sound pretty convinced that things will go this way. If this is about to happen - i could live with the mix you are proposing. As an OT fan who got into LEGO only a few months ago (i already spent a fortune to create kind of a nice collection), i would of course prefer to get Stormies, too. Two Endor BPs would allow for more variety and scenery/vehicle items. Better for army building - in the end better for TLG to sell BPs en masse. I see that a lot of you guys complain about the cockpit and maybe the complains are justified - I leave this in the middle - but please keep in mind that we designers have to build by a certain system because there´s a big difference between FAN-build and LEGO-build. We have much more rules to follow then you guys and sometimes that´s forgotten. On top of this, we also have an age-mark what means that not all solutions are possible. There for a good competition idea would be that you guys build by weight. Take a random set, weigh the weight of only the bricks and build that same set according to your vision. I might sound a little cynical but good luck! I say this cynical because it´s sometimes forgotten that we - the LEGO designers - work every day hard to get the best possible solution within the LEGO rules. If you would know how many models are sometimes made for 1 set you all would be quite amazed...and of course also the ones that don´t make it into a set. With the following I absolutely don't want to offend anyone, because we and LEGO are blessed that you AFOL´s are out there - Respect with a big R, but we read sometimes comments that we think "has that person still all of his screws on a row". To put it simply; some only want to pay $5 for a set but it must contain 20 new mini figures with 1001 different accessories, 600 stones and preferably in rare or new colors. Once again I don´t want to offend anyone but please think for a minute. I think - and also on behalve of my colleague - that I can say that we´re happy to read that you love Queen Padmé Naberrie Amidala... a BIG thanks guys. I can´t say what other mini´s we both have made but I think and hope that you`ll be happy surprized when you see some of them...I´m sure actually. Of course some will have comments and that´s OK but the majority will love them and that´s for us the most important. One think I can say,...there will be a set in 2012 with something special in it...and I recommend it to everybody to buy it because it will be something that will come out and will go back in the dark shadows of the Empire for a very very very long time. Thank you all guys for making LEGO what it is today...cu. I guess this community is pretty pleased that TLG took up the license and has kept it for so long. I like what you (TLG designers) have done since 1999. The stepwise metamorphosis towards accuracy is astounding - especially when first and latest sets are being compared directly. This might be one reason for the discussion around the new TIE cockpit. I'm no designer or MOCer. I can only say that the positioning of the front window looks a little bit out of the way. A closer look might unveil that this is no bad at all or that there's hardly a better way to do it. As of yet, i'm guessing still. New figs are alomost always welcome, i think. To realise yet missing prominent characters like Queen Amidala is very likely to make sets a good success. I am really looking forward who will join her in the action and where this action will take place. A Theed palace, anyone? Thanks for understanding and I hope that more members react to this part of the comment in the hope that "some" will see that it´s not that easy as eating pancakes. It would be a help I think... As a LEGO employee you are free to propose your own project-ideas and that's something I have been walking around with for quite some time. I had something in my mind as a LEGO CONCEPT TOUR. Or a book that covers a particular year (released year after year). What do you AFOL´s think about that? Love to hear some reactions. It´s not a tease...it´s a warning... Seriously, don´t miss it because you´ll regret it for the rest of your life. Regards, Thanks for taking the effort to evaluate the market. Asking potential customers beforehand is as wise as it is nice for us. We are led to believe that the sum of our votes has impact on your final design decision. I guess it's a safe bet to say that a bust/sculpture/brickbuilt toy might adress some people who will react very satisfied. For a really big shot though, something memorable from the system line (something to build and play and display) is more likely to qualify. Something that appeals to customers of all age groups. If you're up to primarily adress AFOLs, a closer look (and filtering) in the history of this thread will offer a good overview what the community is up to. In your later posts you seem a little upset on 'premature' criticism and seem unnerved on mixed reactions. I think that the tenor of reactions is connected with you not giving any sign of what direction is intended and only whispering something mysterious - the intended thing to be something 'one time' and likely somthing different from the expectable. This might lower expectations and even disappoint the heated minds among us. Well, so much is thinkable! I could imagine to welcome a TFU set, the Lars Farm, Otoh Gunga, Bast Castle, an entry set for the 'The Old Republic' computer game. But would the majority of LEGO fans do that, too? I am not sure and would recommend to (re)create some classic set. A well done Cloud City, Star Destroyer, Jabba's Palace is much more likely to cast the die in TLG's favored direction. At the right pricing, with some intrigueing features, those will for sure enter the hall of fame. I can only say: The more out of the way, the less likely an economic success it will be. It's Lucas' job to attract a younger audience towards Star Wars. Designing a SW set to be not 'too much SW' to catch children not yet interested in the theme will likely not work. If sales have really dropped during the last waves, this might more probably be connected with the price policy - people still like sets but they do not necessarily purchase if 166 bricks cost 30 bucks for example. They start complaining instead and tend to talk themselves away from their basic desire to have somthing specific that's good but overpriced (in their eyes). That's perfectly reasonable. Those philosophic thoughts away, i can only state that i highly appreciate your willingness to communicate with us and follow these boards to keep in touch with us customers. Both sides will be better of this way in the end. I for one am pretty curious what the next year is about to offer. Have a nice day. I know this MOC has been floating around for a few years but i would love it if Amidala came with something like this. Maybe a few chrome tiles on the top to smooth it out a bit more. Sry for double posting but i was overtaken by events. This one is interesting. It would fit into the schedule of what parameters Kirk has told us. It's beautiful. How much more expensive are chrome bricks in ratio to regular coloured ones? Quote

Yes I'm pretty sure as I've seen preliminary pics of both battlepacks. And it seems like LEGO is really up to doing things they haven't done before in next year when it comes to Star Wars. E.g. a whole new type of collectible sets. Not randomly packed stuff like the collectible minifigures but rather things thats supposed to be put on a shelf. But they are just chrome coloured and still made of plastic? Well, what would one do with 7 kilos of LEGO shaped metal on the shelf?! But in earnest - the set looks beautiful. And TPM is just around the corner. Not the worst of ideas to bring that up now. The crome color itself is expensive. It can't be molded into the brick so it'll have to be printed and it scratches real easily so I assume there's a high volume of replacement parts. Quote

Anyways, It looks like we might get a Cloud City Set! I have the old one and I cannot wait to see the new one.(if there is a new one) I really couldn't think of another set that would have these figs other then a Star Destroyer Bridge set with all of the bounty hunters. That would mean 4-LOM and Zuckuss! Those pics are from the super star destroyer. Check the 2011 topic. Quote
Fives Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 I could see the Queen coming in a new tan version of the AAT. It would have her, a couple of droids, and possibly some new Naboo guards with new helmets. Or they could do a big set with both a new AAT and a new Flash Speeder. Quote
legofett5 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 With the December 2011 release of The Old Republic I hope we get at least one old republic set. They did it for TFU. Even if EU doesn't sell well, it'd still be cool. Quote

mutley777 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Actually, I believe that particular MOC was vacuum metallized. Indeed. The creator of that MOC choose that method because it is the same way TLC do it. He however built the ship first and then split it up into a few large sections and then did the chroming process.
