CMP Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Guys, the point of this might be a pilot army builder. I mean, Clone and TIE pilots are rare enough, even though they're supposed to be rather common. Maybe this is LEGO making up for not having a lot of them so far? Or something? Or maybe it's Ninjago all over again.... Quote
A-17 Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 yea that would make sense but it would also make sense if Lego was making these to sell to younger buyers Quote
LEGOMAN132 Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 (edited) I think the parts will come inside the planet (egg) and the box will be a small square. Just my guess though. The box might be the planet it self sine lego is going green and all and the might be in a case like the figures but not random. May be they will be random though but I thinking not. May be they will be random though but I thinking not. It's already been said that they will not be random. (besides, who would pay $10 for a random item?) And if the planet itself is the box, it's got to be encased in some sort of plastic to protect it, which would usually be less 'green' than the cardboard boxes. Ceroknight Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 All of this "the planet will be the container" talk reminds me of these: I have owned one of these (please forgive me ) and I must say, the way they used the pokeball as the container was quite clever. So maybe LEGO will do it too? Quote

So maybe LEGO will do it too? Gaah! I thought you had found prelims! Anyway, owning those is unacceptable. I think they will encase them in a cardboard box, and then there will be a small plastic wrap around the center holding it together. But seriously guys, who cares about the packaging! Let's see some prelims! Quote

Well not completely encased just enough to connect the two parts of the planet ball a tape maybe. And in all the reading I missed the not random part sorry. Edited August 11, 2011 by LEGOMAN132 Quote

The Legonater Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 (edited) So maybe LEGO will do it too? Well, they did that with the X-Pods all those years ago. And the first Tini Turbos could use their case as a garage, so it's not something new to TLG. Edited August 11, 2011 by The Legonater Quote

And the first Tini Turbos could use their case as a garage, so it's not something new to TLG. hmmm i forgot all about those seeing some photos of the X-Pods, it seems actually something that LEGO would do with this new SW "concept", throwing a planet, resembling one of those pods, and a similar number of pieces, enough for a recognizable mini, and a minifig...really hoping that i'm wrong, as the "OT collector" inside me is craving for something a little more...unique Quote
Ki-Adi-Mundi Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Cited from 2012 index: "9491 Geonosian Cannon Figs: 4 (Gree, Geonosian Warrior, Geonosian Zombie & Bariss Offee) Vehicles: Price: ? EUR / ? USD / ? GBP Subtheme: XXX Pieces: Unknown Release: 2012 S@H" Please tell me that this is kind of a typo! Quote
The Legonater Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Please tell me that this is kind of a typo! Why should it be? If this is indeed a set it makes sence to have the Zombie in there. Quote

Brickdoctor Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 That's actually very good thinking! Something like the X-Pods seems like a very plausible idea. Though the X-Pods weren't exactly a huge success. If they are doing that, TLG is probably counting on the popularity of Star Wars to bring in the profits, which is probably a good thing. I hope this line survives if not only for the times every now and then when I want one rarer figure. I personally still think that cardboard-boxed LEGO looks best, and makes the toy look more like the classic high-quality LEGO that buyers like. But I'm not a kid, and maybe they like seeing their toys through plastic bubbles, as if they were purchasing action figures. Oh well, not like we should be judging the book by its cover; or, rather, the set by its packaging. Quote

I wasn't sure what exactly a Geonosian zombie was, so I googled the little critter and I don't see why you're so appalled by the fig?... I think it looks pretty cool and not much different. Quote

You guys are missing out on some pretty great stuff by not watching The Clone Wars. The popular sentiment is that it's the best Star Wars since The Empire Strikes Back, and it's definitely true in my opinion. Complaining about a minifig (that we haven't even seen yet, by the way) just because you haven't seen the material it's based on is rather ignorant. The undead Geonosian minifigure totally makes sense if you've seen the Season 2 episodes "Landing at Point Rain" through "Brain Invaders". Some of the best episodes of that season. I'm catching up on it, especially since they had a 4th marathon last month and played most of season 3. I'd buy the seasons on iTunes if it weren't so expensive! Quote

We'll I wouldn't say it's as good as ESB, but I definitely do think the Clone Wars is awesome. The Landing at Point Rain series was one of my favorite storylines, and it's good to see they are doing a line of sets from the episodes, just like the Hoth and Endor lines. Hopefully we get Geonosis BP's soon. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 (edited) The show is amazing in that it progressively gets better and better. The second half of Season 3 (which just ended) was pretty mind-blowing. There's some more mature thematic elements at play throughout the show; it's definitely not just the "kiddie show" that it's often marketed as. I don't collect the Clone Wars sets (it's my way of limiting my collecting habits ), but I feel that as collectors we should understand the source material that these sets are coming from. uboat77 Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Usually I wait for KimT to do this, but since a claim that CW is as good as Empire has the potential to blow up into a heated debate, I will say, Stay on target! Before it gets there. If anyone wants to discuss CW vs. Empire, there's a thread in Culture and Multimedia for that. (and for the record, I don't think CW comes anywhere close to the greatness of Empire) Must...urge...not to...UTTERLY AGREE with Brickdoctor...and...stay on target! well, being a CW and prequel hater i don't see the problem of doing a minifig based on an actual creature of the series...if the set is based on that sequence of episodes, why not? by the way, hasn't the EU already done a novel based on some zombie stormtroopers?? (infected by some kind of disease i think) Just to finish, a probable dumb question: should we expect some early preliminary photos from the 2012 summer wave? as far as i know, the new Amidala fig will be on one of the summer sets...have they ever done this before, showing a new minifig about a year earlier? All in how you read into it, apparently. Moving on... Not a dumb question at all! I imagine that it all depends on how far along TLG is in the development process for the summer 2012 sets. I don't recall seeing a preview of something a year in advance like this, so it's possible there's an image out there of at least a finished Amidala minifig. If not the set that she's in. Ah, good point. It means that nothing made after ESB is as good as the Clone Wars. I somewhat agree, however I think ROTS was pretty good. Anyway, I wonder what kind of commando droids we will get, as there are different variants. Hopfully we get one of these guys, from the Citadel Prison episodes, with a trans-yellow shield. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 The shield would be a nice addition. A new design of the shield from 7929 in trans-yellow would do the trick without having to create a new mold. I'm curious to see whether the Commando Droids share the exact same basic body type as the existing battle droids. Quote
