Here's my final take on Echo Base which will be added to a future OT wall display. Besides a lot of extra pieces, this set uses elements from Lego sets 7666, 7749, 7879, 8089, and 8129. Fitting an Echo Base that captures many of Episode V's scenes on a 4 ft by 1 ft shelf wasn't easy, but I feel like I did it justice. I guess I'll let you all decide though.

Overview:

The med bay was completely retooled from my WIP. I made it two rooms instead of one, and tiled the floor due to request.

med_over.jpg

The bacta room includes the tank and two medical droids. The control panel 2-1B is standing by rotates 360 degrees. I was shooting for the scene below.

pic_bacta.jpg

Came somewhat close. The hoses do attach to the bacta tank, they're just hard to see with the ceiling hiding them.

med2.jpg

The room to the left is reminiscent of the room Luke relaxes in and get kissed in. I left enough room next to the bed to reenact this scene. You'd think this guy would be happier with a tasty popsicle.

Some other angles.

The other droid with 2-1B is FX-7. FX-7 was the R2-D2 to 2-1B's C-3P0. He should have been in this set.

I was very disappointed TLG didn't include him, so I built my own. Nothing to rave about, but it fulfills the need.

The control room was redone as well from the WIP. I tried to match the general panel layout from the shot below as well as incorporate the panel design used in 7879.

pic_command.jpg

The floor is somewhat tiled with a mixture of snow, vents, and clean floor near the doors. Again, upon request.

The WIP had a lot of floorspace taken up by passages. I left one smaller one, it leads to the control room rear entrance. The Wampa signs warn people to be careful going through the base.

leftside.jpg

The hangar floor has been cleaned up dramatically from the WIP. Only white and dark gray are used, all the light gray and black has been removed, as well as the vents holding it together. The hangar shot is two speeders about to leave the base to defend it.

snowspeeders.jpg

The speeders are sitting on swivel stands. Here they are removed.

I kept the bridge from 7879 and enlarged it to comfortably fit an X-wing had there been enough room for one.

Tall enough now? I think so.

Rounding up the base with some random shots.

So, there's my base! If I add anymore to it will be a few more hoses (I'm fresh out), but there won't be much more done to it. Need to move on to other shelves. Hopefully you all like it and that you get some good ideas for your own Echo Base.

Nice work fitting all this into the space available while maintaining the official set feel. I like that you didn't go overboard, turning Mods into collections of MOCs the way I usually end up doing.

i like the medic room where 2-1B is working. just like the movie's room with the glass tank!

is Hoth cold enough? why is the rebel soldier having an ice-cream?

Great work there StoutFiles.

It'll really take you on a tour of the base with lots of things to recognise from the movie.

Awesome work here! I like that each part truly resembles and recreates several scenes from the movie. My favorite would have to be the war room.

Hello!

A nice combination of sets, typical elements and scenes. :classic: It's definitely an enrichment for every shelf where it's placed.

Cheers,

~ Christopher

Very nice! I like how you managed to distribute the contents of various Echo Base sets in a logical way.

My main criticism of this MOC is how it doesn't feel very open. As a shelf display, I'd think it would be somewhat difficult to see all the different rooms' contents. The four-stud-wide "ceilings" may be partially to blame for this. One-stud-wide or two-stud-wide partitions might work better for a display this big. This would also brighten up the interior considerably, seeing as the dark shadows make it feel even more cramped than it already is.

The hangar is probably my favorite part of this aesthetically, partially because of the lack of floor tiling. The floor is simple enough not to distract from the hangar's vehicle contents. The tiled floor of the med bay sort of bothers me in comparison, because tiles are not arranged according to any sort of pattern, and are thus very distracting. I realize, though, that doing the tiled floor better would probably require Bricklink orders to get the right quantity of identically-sized tiles.

Overall, this MOC is a great expansion of the Echo Base set. However, I feel it could be improved further to help it feel less cluttered and better display all the interior details. Still, it's much better than I could have done in the short time between the release of the Echo Base set and the posting of this MOC!

Very nice work StoutFiles. I really like your version of FX-7, he looks really cute!

I’ve been debating a small MOC of the medical bay myself, although I’ve had a problem trying to source the clear-trans blue 2 x 4 x 6 cylinders via Ebay. I tried using a couple of the 2 x 4 x 4 but they look rubbish, as Luke doesn’t fit in that well. Have you considered illuminating the bacta tank? (the blue looks really nice with Technic LEDS!) :classic:

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

The shelf it's on will be only 3 ft high from the ground. I probably should have mentioned that; seeing inside the rooms won't be a problem. Lighting will be a future addition once the whole display is done. Yes, I agree there's some clutter, but to fit everything I wanted to represent I had to make some sacrifices. Note that other than the hangar the movie's base wasn't very spacious either!

Yes, but it will probably be a year from now. Once I've completed everything I can map out how to work lighting.

Awsome job, this is a sceen I have always wanted to do. Love the med bay, and command centre. As I commented before I would like to see foot prints in the snow from the troopers and AT-AT if you have enough white elements.

This would be the one of the best Hoth base I have seen.

Very nice work on this , I like the fact that you mixed all the sets , and your custom stuff ( from which I especially like the med droid ). Keep up the good work !

Nice work indeed. You captured the feel of the Battle Of Hoth really well with not that much space. The echo base itself is really nice, and the tiles certainly are better than studs. Good job!

Looks great StoutFiles, the simplification of the base improves it from the earlier version. Also this is tonnes better than the pathetic offering from TLG.
