Hey I'm the new one,

i've returned to Lego-Technic and love to see it's "evolution" over the past years. The details ect.

So i bought the 2009 crane-truck (8258 and hopefully german-DHL will be able to deliver it to my packetstation in the second try... ;)

My questions: Are 8258 and 8043 the same scale?

Or is the Supercar 8070 a "must have set" ?

greetings

Beeba

On what criteria do you want your decision based upon?

8258 is the largest set in terms of sheer size.

8043 offers (imho) the most playability, since it is 100% remote controlled.

8070 looks really good, but lacks in the playability department.

By the way, to save you some frustration and a lot of broken gears, follow these alternative building instructions: http://technicbricks.blogspot.com/2009/11/8258-modification-instructions-by-han.html

Have fun!

Hi Beeba,

nice to see someone else coming out of his dark ages ;-)

I have all of the models you were asking about, sadly the the 8070 is taken apart right now so I can't include it in my pictures.

Judging by the seats, which are built in almost the same way in 8258 and 8043 (both have this part as the base: http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?itemID=923&colorID=7 ), I would say the are almost the same scale.

I did take some pictures for you:

If you are deciding wether to get the 8070 or the 8043, I would recommend getting the 8043, but if you have enough money to get them both, this would be the right time now, since Toys'r'Us and amazon in Germany have 20% of Lego products till tomorrow. I wouldnt pay the normal 109,99 € for the 8070, but 90 € is definitly ok. Being someone who got the 8880 as a kid, I was kind of dissapointed with the 8070 (no working steering wheel, gearbox used for the power functions instead of being a real gearbox...), but it still is a nice set anyways.

I do have more pictures, including close ups of the seats and comparison between 8258 and 8110 in my brickshelf folder:

Agreed! pirate_thumbup.gif

The 8258 is a very nice set. It has the looks and the size!

The 8043 is a must have set, which has great playability. One of my favorites. There are instructions available to build an "ultimate" version. However you will need some extra parts, including some PF ones. http://www.jurgenste...r.com/8043.html

The 8070 is a cool set and has some great parts if you want to build your own super car. The B-model is very nice too.

Maybe this will show the scales a bit:

There's also a builder who has made a trailer for the 8258 which holds the 8043, so the scales are interchangeable.

Wow very helpful answers :)

The pictures helped a lot, i think 8258 and 8043 would be awesome on my desk together. The playability is a bonus, first of all it should be good looking.

Found a similar pic 89d640a9-b0db-4e56-90d4-e1045514434f.jpg

Got the 8880 too. With the 4-wheeled steering and the turning headlights, a good old supercar.

The 8358 is a must have for be, in memory of my 8479 <3

I will order the 8043. - I thought the 20% price-reduce is normal at amazon and toy'r'us got this temporary selling.

greetings and sorry for my bad english ;>

8258 and 8043 work well together.

Looks awesome =)

I built the 8258 in about 7-8 hours and it's just awesome in front of me not only on pictures :cry_happy:

The 8043 should be coming today. Will take a photo when its done.

But the desk is going to be so tiny with these monsters
