Lasse D Posted March 19, 2017 Author Posted March 19, 2017 Thanks Lucio. Now you might all wonder why it is taking me so long to make instructions for the trailer. The reason for the delay is that I have not been satisfied with the mechanism. The decoupler was not always fully aligned with the legs, causing the operation of the trailer to be harder to control than unnecessary. I have fixed this with an updated mechanism and I have created a new white trailer so that you can see how the mechanisms compare: The chain drive minimizes the slack in the system between the decoupler and the legs. You can see the other improvements underneath. Here are a couple of comparison pictures with the legs up and down: As you can see, I have moved the 1:3 downgearing to the other side of the red clicker. This makes the legs more responsive: Now they start turning immediately when you reverse, thus causing less space to be necessary when working it. This has also eliminated the need for the secondary clicker. See also how the 1:2 gearing has been replaced by the 1:2 direction changing gears. This change also increases responsiveness. Finally, I have replace the geared fixed third axle with a suspended non-geared one. This makes it much easier to turn the trailer. The spare wheels are now held by robot arms, which is a more realistic setup, and it is easier to take them out than previously. It was not easy to get a light to shine properly inside of the trailer, but here you can see how much space the mechanism takes up inside: This new trailer is completely basic, so I have replaced the refrigeration unit with a tool box: I will first make instructions for the white trailer. Then I will update the Buy n Large trailer so that the instructions for it will have the upgrades from the white one. Finally, here are a couple of images with the white trailer by itself: I will keep you updated with the hourly progress of instructions building. Quote

I really like how you've made ....when you have time if possible ,thanks excuse me for not writing perfect Edited March 22, 2017 by lucio Quote
Lasse D Posted April 2, 2017 Author Posted April 2, 2017 Thanks. The green Volvo is still work in progress. It is currently just a Scania frame with DAF wheel covers and the front from the blue Volvo. There are instructions for all of these: Scania: http://c-mt.dk/instructions/models_truck-ScaniaTopline.htm DAF: http://c-mt.dk/instructions/models_truck-DafXfFtSpaceCab.htm Volvo: http://c-mt.dk/instructions/models_truck-VolvoContainer.htm It has turned out to be more difficult to build the Volvo, than expected. This is why progress on it is so slow. Meanwhile I have made building instructions for the white trailer. This also took more time than expected! Here are the building instructions: http://c-mt.dk/instructions/models_trailer-StandardBoxTrailerLong.htm The instructions are also on rebrickable for all the extra features you get there: http://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-7517/LasseD/standard-trailer-with-automatic-legs-and-decoupler/ I expected it to be a 5 hour job, but it took me 9 whole hours to build it in MLCad! Here is the hourly progress: Next up I will make a video for it, and then it's time to modify the Buy n Large trailer to use this new system. Quote

Have you considered using LDD for quicker building and then exporting files to MLcad format? It is not a perfect solution (some newer pieces are exported with errors or dissapear completely), but it changes the building speed drastically. I am using that solution for a very long time and it works for me :) Quote

I am using that solution for a very long time and it works for me :) Yes this is a very good idea. I'm still having a lot of problems with the technic parts and LDD - it is absolutely horrible at chosen the build order for instructions. There is a new program which helps making building instructions from LDD models, and I plan on looking into it. Meanwhile the rear end of the trailer has been updated with the complete rim of reflectors like often seen in real life: This is also the version that there are building instructions for: Quote
Lasse D Posted May 3, 2017 Author Posted May 3, 2017 Work has started on the second DAF XF. Changes to appear: - Double L-motor + tall gearing - SBrick - Indicator lights - Super Space Cab configuration - Updated front detailing - New livery (to be designed once the other updates are done) I will keep the thread updated with the changes. Feel free to chime in with suggestions. Quote
lucio Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Hello lasse d I really like the daf white vivre Are you building a new version of daf xf space cab? With high cabin? Interesting, spewro understood well ...... Your daf is really nice if i can give you a suggestion for me brik 1 for 4 under the glass of the door, the tilted one is too protruding, did you try to find a different solution? Quote
Lasse D Posted May 15, 2017 Author Posted May 15, 2017 (edited) Yes. That is exactly my plan. And I will try to fix the door issue and I agree with you. That 1x4 tile sticks out like a sore thumb. The first mod (adding a motor) is almost done. Now I just have to build new side covers and fuel tanks: Edit Progress: I have made the following improvements and changes: - The "DAF" bar ("DAF" logo not present...) in the front now curves, which gives a less flat front. - The doors are now (primarily) studs up, which allows the windows to be pushed back, and even more importantly, the part @lucio mentions has been improved. Now the side mirrors are also better attached. - The sides are now built in layers in order to allow for enough space for the dual L-motors. - The rear wheel wells are better attached and connected to a longer rear light bar which allows for LED lights. - As you might have spotted. The side indicators now have LED's. - I'm currently building the super space cab configuration top as can be seen next to the truck. Edited May 22, 2017 by Lasse D Progress! Quote
lucio Posted May 22, 2017 Posted May 22, 2017 The updates have been successful and have great effect ... you have improved small details making them even more realistic, fantastic daf compliments .... You have made the modification to the side doors now they have the black window border .. very good ..... i like it and i hope you will make instructions that i want to build it i also SIMPLY FANTASTIC THE PROGRESSIVE UPDATE ..... THIS DAF IS REALLY SPECTACULAR ...... YOU HAVE ALSO IMPROVED THE DOOR .. Quote
Lasse D Posted June 3, 2017 Author Posted June 3, 2017 Thanks. And yes. I will make instructions for this once it is complete. Now it has been finished, but I still have to colorize it: I am thinking of a green color scheme with stripes and multiple shades of green. Let's see how that ends up. Quote
lucio Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 The high cabinet is very well done clean and in harmony with all the good truk also the black front visor I know it's hard to work on this with my compliments .... because you do not try to put the front tire creetor and not the old tire model team you managed to fix the door with the black profile I know it's hard to work on this with my compliments .... because you do not try to put the front tire creetor and not the old tire model team I know it's hard to work on this with my compliments .... because you do not try to put the front tire creetor and not the old tire model team I know it's hard to work on this with my compliments .... because you do not try to put the front tire creetor and not the old tire model team Quote
Lasse D Posted August 5, 2017 Author Posted August 5, 2017 Thanks. I don't have instructions for it yet. I'm still trying to make the SBrick functions work well, and currently I have issues getting the lights to work properly. Any suggestions are welcome :) Quote
lucio Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 Beautiful real effect .... nice video .... The cabin cabin version will you make the instructions? It's really a nice model Quote
Milan Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 @lucio Please use default EB font, You may use different one, if you want to emphasize something, but let's not use it for the entire post. Thanks. Quote

Lasse D Posted March 8, 2020 Author Posted March 8, 2020 It is about time to get back to work. Back in October 2012 I was working on a new Magnum: Since then we have had some new PF motor added to the LEGO lineup, so I am now retrying this model, but based on the frame from the DAF XF: The ground clearance is much better, and the only issue is the intrusion of the servo motor into the cabin. I expect to elongate the middle section, and redo the rear wheel guards to appear as on the Magnum. If I'm lucky, I might find the old truck somewhere as well, so that the two can stand side-by-side to illustrate the differences (or lack thereof) given the more than 10 years between them. Quote
lucio Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 update us on your new truck models ... do you have any future plans? Quote
Lasse D Posted April 8, 2020 Author Posted April 8, 2020 My plans are to give the models a much needed update. I have a bunch of emails and other messages asking for these. First up is the Magnum. I am currently working on the details of the cab. There are missing trim pieces in the previous design which I would like to include, such as the chrome strip below the windscreen. As usual, all choices result in compromise elsewhere. Many pictures show the Magnum with black wheel wells - even when the rest of the body is red. I am not sure that this color choice works for my model, but the rear light does look better in this design: Any input will be appreciated. Quote
Lasse D Posted April 19, 2020 Author Posted April 19, 2020 I have finished the Magnum and am now working on programming the PFx brick, so that it works nicely with this non-train model. There was just enough space for the small microphone: I have also rebuilt the 10 year old previous version so that they can be compared side-by-side: The whole truck has been rebuilt with a focus on realistic proportion, but the main idea for the new grille is also incorporated. With the base from the DAF, the Technic elements are better hidden in the center of the base: Another big change has been modeling of the top. The curvature is now more accurate and with the PFx you can remove the trans black 1x2 brick and simply use the sunroof as passtrough for PF control: I will also be looking into a new trailer for this truck. The old octan trailer was a bit on the heavy side with its 3577 parts: Quote
Lasse D Posted April 25, 2020 Author Posted April 25, 2020 I had some constructive feedback on the pictures above... on flickr. This has lead me to redesign the lower half of the front. There are now building instructions for the new Magnum and in this video you can see and hear all of the effects in action: Building instructions: https://brickhub.org/i/584 The updated details of the lower front are mainly consisting of the lower row of cheese slopes being replaced by parts that give less visual height: even though the front is only half a plate lower than before, the result is much more accurate. As always, I used Griddy to ensure the proportions were correct: In the video you can see how it is super easy to replace the battery box, and you can use either the standard PF battery box, or the rechargeable one: It tool over 12 hours to make the building instructions as I have not tried to make them with PFx components before, and the rear silicone band also caused its fair deal of trouble. Here is the hourly progress from over the week: As you can see, the cab has a special color here. This is done so that you can choose your own cab color in the building instructions. See some examples in the video. The PFx components are packed tightly in the cab: But there was still space for some of the dashboard, steering wheel and seats in order to resemble some kind of interior: From below it is easy to see how I am reusing the base from the DAF: And speaking of the DAF. I have had some request on rebrickable and on mail for some updates of that model, so it will be up next. Quote
Lasse D Posted April 27, 2020 Author Posted April 27, 2020 With 1823 parts I am glad that these instructions only took 12 hours. Here are the instructions for the Buy'n'Large trailer: https://brickhub.org/i/585 Here is the progress of the instructions every 2 hours: Notice how I used the standard white box trailer as a basis for the structure of this trailer. I have also updated the decoupler mechanism and rigidity of the box, so now it does not require the internal support as shown in the original model. There are some other minor upgrades here and there, such as an updated "U" and more realistic movement of the trailer legs. The legs also allow the truck to run the decoupler in low friction environments... aka. dirty floors... Quote
Lasse D Posted May 9, 2020 Author Posted May 9, 2020 In this video you can see the Buy'n'Large truck drive around, pick up and place the trailer. Meanwhile, I have been upgrading the green DAF. It is shown briefly in the video, so here are some close-ups of the upgrades. Firstly the nose has been updated with chrome detailing: There is now a light strip along the top of the back of the cab: and there is a wide exhaust tip on the side: The ceiling has been updated: It is now able to open for easy access to the SBrick, lights and battery box: But there is also another upgrade - a completely new trailer with a lot of SNOT: Unfortunately I have made an error in the drawings on the side of the trailer, so I have to fix that before I can show it in full. Perhaps tomorrow. Quote
grego18f Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 I have always been amazed by your trucks. The DAF is really cool too. There are so much details in there, even the exhaust... Quote
