Wait a minute, drawers on the trailer with the bikes.....tools in their hands.....drawers for tool storage ? I wonder where they might have got that idea from eh ? (I have been doing that for almost two years with my trucks and workshop MOC's)

Ok I've now seen the pics and it seems to me that the Police and fire sets belong to a mountain region town rather than a city. Across all the sets there's only four spindly trees so it isn't really a forest setting and the police station looks very small country town. On top of which the police have a new logo on their shield badges so that makes it a different police force. They also have significantly different coloured vehicles.

4439 I'm not digging the huge helicopter. It seems incongruous for a small force to have such a large vehicle. Obviously kids will love it. double props and swooshability factor. It's not for me though. I think it looks better suited to a sea search and rescue set.

4440 The police station itself looks fairly decent and aside from the cell doors being external I can't find fault with that design. The rooftop lookout point is cool. Though it's those textured bricks in the foundations that'll probably sell this set to most AFOLs. The station car looks good, liking the 4x4s in this sub-theme but the helicopter with the station is weak. beefing this one up rather than having the twin props heavy lift 'copter would have worked better I think. And does that criminal up the tree not know bears can climb?

4436 has the cutest car ever. It looks like an electric car. Eco police out there in the wilds.

4437 Is worth getting for the 4x4 alone. I can take or leave quad bikes and without it in this set it wouldn't have mattered. The 4x4 is the draw. especially those red wheel arches. I love Lego for creating those.

4441 Has to be very preliminary in that photo. Both vehicles look awful. The criminals ride looks thrown together and the dog van is boring. Hope there's a lot of change to this set before it's released.

4209 Has a nice Jeep. The plane wings look clumsy and ugly. I actually prefer the one piece wings from the airport planes but obviously those would be too big here. something smaller, one piece or two piece with more studs would be nice. I can see myself getting this to convert to postal service plane though.

4427 A quad bike thing. Meh feh and pah! I like the fireman with the sooty looking uniform dirt. Hope they keep that look. It's cool. More dirty firemen Lego!

4208 What an odd looking vehicle. Reminds me of classic town stuff. I've never seen a fire vehicle like that. It doesn't grab me. I do like the black looking foliage pieces though. I hope they're black in the final set.

4431 Ambulance. Looks based on an American Mercedes Sprinter. I know some ambulance services still use red in their livery but most shy away from it because of the gory connotations. Green or blue is favoured more. This is a decent design and looks the part in scale but I'll definitely change the livery if I get this.

4434 One word, wheelbarrow. The sweetest motherlovin' accessory ever. The truck is pretty decent but Lego could have sold me a box of wheelbarrows and I'd be happy. Weird choice of minifig torso. this looks municipal so I'd have thought the orange hi-vis torso more applicable. no matter. It is a nice torso they've used and not too common.

4432 Decent looking garbage truck. Badly applied sticker I notice. I'm definitely wanting this. Contemporary design and much better colour than the last one Lego produced. There's room for both in my city though.

4433 Another great 4x4. Hope the blue Octan torso is a place-holder. trailer and bikes will only be interesting if the bikes are different colours. A red one and a white one would be good. I've had enough of orange off road bikes.

4435 Great caravan. Really like it. Shame it's towed by yet another yellow car. Would it really hurt to make one blue or green instead of the constant stream of red and yellow? And please not a red bicycle. Does Lego have a red bicycle surplus mountain or something? Enough already! Moaning aside the caravan is destined to join my camper van and become the start of a trailer park.

Ambulance - I guess it would be smart and nice to make a yellow / lime green version of it - this is more an international look.

Brush Fire Truck. Yepp - a little bit blocky. But I think the orange minifigs are far from final and the yellow stripe on the side of the fire vehicles male me think that the minifigs also might be yellow....

As far as I could see there was only 5 figs with the police station, and it looked smaller than the current one.

I actually prefer this station to previous ones. It may be smaller, but the walls actually look brick-built instead just the one-piece walls that make up the previous police stations.

How is the cattle stopper made? At first I thought it was made out of these pieces:

But on closer inspection it seems to be one curved fence piece or something.

The cattle stoppers for the vehicles in 4440 and 4441 are made from droid arms clipped to bars. In 4441, you can see the bottom bar is attached by 1x1 plates with clip on top.

I didnt notice the animal grid in 4436 but now that I have seen it it looks cool. Based on the sign, it doesn't look like a cattle stopper, it looks like a bear stopper.

I was scratching my head over the garbage truck's design, I believe it's called a Rotopress garbage truck.

The drum in the middle on it's side is a dead give away, I think.

Just looking at the tipper truck, is the tipper tray made out of some new parts....because the sides and rear flap do not conform to current Lego parts or designs.

My brain is going 'I should get that orange tipper truck, but I already have so many orange utility trucks in my town including a recycling truck, a street cleaner and a tow truck... but if I buy the new green recycling truck to replace my orange one, then I'll have one less orange vehicle in my town... but then I really prefer the design of the old orange recycling truck to the new green one...'

It's not the most riveting internal debate I've ever had.

I hope the recycling truck images are preliminary, it would be great if instead of the non-recyclable junk they're collecting they had the new bottle piece in a different colour, like transparent brown or green...

The Sanitation Truck doesn't seem all that different from the last one. I wonder if they fixed the problem with the back falling apart due to the weight hanging down from the roof. Is this style truck still used anywhere? Most I see are side loaders or front loaders now.

The windscreen is the same as this years prisoner transport van and the space rocket launcher van.

How did the interior go 'danim' - time will tell to see how close you got overall !

The 2012 Ambulance looks far better than the previous "city" one. More than likely modelled on the Mercedes Sprinter as some have mentioned. Noticed on the patient trolley/stretcher that there is no wheels that fold up/down unlike previous medical stretchers.

Don't like the red outfits of the medics so hopefully they will change.

Looks like I will be getting a few of these, mod it a bit to have some lime green instead of a red stripe. Just have to hope Lego bring out a Hospital in the latter part of 2012.

I told my wife last night, this is my favorite time of the year because we get to see illicit pictures of upcoming Lego sets. I can remember doing this same thing however-many-years ago on rec.toys.lego, and it's still just as much fun now as it was back then.

Unfortunately ... I'm not seeing very much that I'm interested in. I'm pretty well set for police / fire stuff. Even the slight variation on the theme this year isn't enough to grab my interest. That fire plane seems like MASSIVE overkill to put out a fire in ONE freakin' tree!!

I think I would feel sorry for any child just starting to get into Lego City these days. It would be really hard to build a town out of nothing but vehicles. Granted, they are very nicely-designed vehicles, but they don't create a setting or a sense of PLACE. That's something that's missing across a lot of TLC's product lines. Oddly enough, the new Friends line looks terrific in that regard. Lots of varied and specific locations with excellent details to create that sense of place.

I really like all the vehicles, and I will more than likely get them all, but for me, the Fire and Police line seem really Megablocks-y. It's probably the strange new wheel arch piece and the 1x1 round tile (or maybe the stickered grilles), but they just look cheaply done. I'll still end up getting some (or most...)

I done a bit of improvment to the roof, simply because I did not have the peice that they use for the roof, and also I changed the design of the front for the same reason. I'm not usually a City fan, but this theme might find it's way into my collection...

There does seem to an increase in female figures, which is good news.

The Police theme is pretty much how I imagined it. The cops look good, and I can see that some have plain white bodies as placeholders, while other have completed ones. That should mean some variation in torsos.

The bear is great, the slight change in police colour scheme is refreshing, the criminal vehicles are well-executed, and the Police Station looks very rustic.

The Station does seem a bit small, though. I'll have to see the interior before I really like it. The helicopter looks like a bit of an afterthought, too.

2012 is going to be an expensive year...
