lightningtiger Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 It's because Lego is a childrens toy. What's so unrealistic about the sets? You can say that again 'Legocrazy81', the vehicle sets are among the most realistic and detailed Lego has ever done....only their 2007 cement truck could join them. 'dakotasbricks' if you just want pieces....buy Creator sets - parts to price ratio is the best. Brick On 2012 everyone ! Quote
Hewman Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Anyone know what current sets are likely to be retired to make way for the 2012 sets? And what are the prices likely to be in Australia? US$19.99 = AU$29.99 ? According to hobbyco.com.au, your guesses are spot on (well they list them as $29.95, but I reckon that's close enough!). Other 2012 sets are listed there like the big police set for $120 (I assume it's $70 US, as all $70 US sets seem to be $120 Aus). Quote
Yamon Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 I was just wondering, if these are meant to be forest rangers, wouldn't it make sense if they had horses? I see a lot of forest rangers with horses and stuff. So the police could have a big horse box like this: http://www.police-car-photos.com/picture/number171.asp But i guess this is probably what the k9 unit is for as the horses are quite big. It would still be quite cool though :D Quote

Anyway, that is starting to go off-topic....back on-topic, having a close look at the vehicle sets (garbage truck, tipper, etc.,.) they use the good old 1x1 trans-colour round plates....I though we saw fancy new round tiles eh ? Indeed. But also some of the sets(Dirt Bike Transporter, Tipper) have what appears to be High intensity beams on top. Why use Four 1x1 Round Plates instead of just one of the new 4x1 translucent light plates we've seen from the police car in the Bank and MOney Transfer Set, and the 2011 K-9 Unit? Quote

Well, they are spot lights....in Oz they are used for rabbiting or roo hunting ! It does appear that only the police sets might use those new round 1x1 tiles. Quote

And that's just in the City theme-- in other themes they're also quite plentiful, with Ninjago in particular having transparent ones with various prints, unprinted medium stone grey (light bluish gray) ones, and unprinted warm gold (pearl gold) ones. CMP Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Ah, a few horses would be killer. LEGO's demonstrated its horse-printing skills in Mill Village Raid. Shame they're not gonna show up, but I guess the horse would look like a random hunk of plastic next to the new poseable bear. Quote
Mikeosaurus Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Oh I don't know about that, I think the horse still meshes well with the new fancy animals. If anything the old bears looked out of place, being only two studs wide, with minimal detail and no printing whatsoever. Quote
CMP Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 If anything the old bears looked out of place, being only two studs wide, with minimal detail and no printing whatsoever. Yeah, the horse can...nod...and...look good. I'd still kind of like a new molded horse. But that's beside the point here. I love the new forest rangers. Hats are friggin' awesome, heads are nice, torso are sweet, and you can never run low on dark blue legs. Still debating the Chinook...I like it, but there's a lot $50 can buy these days. Like...other LEGO. The brick moulded pieces are very, very, very nice. I'm just pissed they came out after the Hogwarts sets. We could've had like 30 in one set. Ah, well. Let's hope they pop up some more. Quote

I think this is the most excited I've been about new police sets ever. I really like the minifigs too. Now I'm going to have to buy more green baseplates to accompany the station and the bandits meth lab. Quote

Anyway, 'Aachnir' you are right those jeeps all seem to come with round tiles....lets hope so remember the gold bars issue with POTC sets ! Quote
Piranha Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 (edited) These sets are terrible, way to unrealistic. I dont even waste my money anymore! I just buy them for the pieces, not for the overall set. I wish lego would apeal more to its TFOL and AFOL fanbase. But I guess we can only dream! ! ! nice troll It's because Lego is a childrens toy. What's so unrealistic about the sets? ^^ this agree with LT, creator sets as well as Modular buildings have alot of parts per price. Edited October 29, 2011 by Macoco Quote
ETAV8R Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 I just noticed there is only one of the new police sets that has a ranger in all tan instead of having blue pants set 4440 Quote

Vindicare Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 What exactly is the contraption in 4436? Is it a Dukes of Hazard-esque ramp for the bandits to give a big ol' Yeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaw as they evade the law? Quote

Is it a Dukes of Hazard-esque ramp for the bandits to give a big ol' Yeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaw as they evade the law? It's a crossing grid, and the sign said bear crossing - in Oz it's for cattle. (though I haven't ever seen a boom gate for it...bears must have right of way ! ) Quote

The grates are there to keep animals away - their paws fall through the grates, making it difficult to cross over. Quote
jonwil Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Boom gates like that may exist at the borders of national parks (accompanied with a small post where a ranger or other employee checks cars entering and exiting the park to make sure they are complying with the rules) And speaking of park rangers, is it just me or would that new hat be perfect for them? Quote
Lance Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 At last a bear thats not Winney the Pooh. It looks amazing, the fact it can stand on its hind legs is gonna make kids want it. I really like the police copter. It reminds me of a Chinook or a Sea King. I also like the Caravan. Brings back so many memories of holiday's in West Wales. Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 And speaking of park rangers, is it just me or would that new hat be perfect for them? Well, I have been thinking the same thing, though sheriff is better.....Dukes Of Hazard style ! Quote

Actually looks to have eyelashes, most likely a female figure in charge. Also looks like the helo pilots have printed legs with kneeboards on them. Very cool. Similar to the Alien Conquest pilots. In set 4438 there is a trans clear head used for the lantern outside the crooks hideout. Has this been done in transclear before? Edited October 30, 2011 by ETAV8R Quote
