brickbuilder711 Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 (edited) Well the City sets are targeted for kids under the age of 12. And kids usually don't have a lot of money, so TLG has to keep the costs down just so the kids can afford them. Since most of use on Eurobricks are adults, everything in the City line might seem childish and colourful, and to be honest, it is. But keep in mind that these sets are aimed at kids. I don't see TLC making modular sized city building such as hospitals, banks, shops and train stations. It would cost a fortune and it wont blend in very well with current city sets. Just my 2 cents. If you ask me, I really like the lack of these sort of sets. They make for a challenge. That challenge is on you, the builder, to create the models to your liking. I fear if I have all these sets available, the point of creating these structures fades and the hobby becomes boring. The 4207 by the way looks amazing! The 2011 Pet Shop, this set, and the Town Hall will probably be my only big budget sets this year. I too noticed the pumps in a separate Flickr image, up close, and for those who have not been able to find it, it's right here: I always dreamed of having something the caliber of 6394, and this is almost a suitable replacement for it. jonwil Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 I wonder if the big sign pointing the way to the airport/train station/harbor/etc will appear in a set (and if so which one). It looks professional enough to be in a set and I doubt TLG would be showing off parts from a 2013 set so early in 2012 so if it is intended for a specific set, maybe it comes in a 2012 set somewhere. Regarding the newsstand seen in the pictures, that has to be a MOC and not part of a set. LEGO would never use the Harry Potter newspaper tiles in a non-HP set (as the license wouldn't allow it) Quote

But I can't recall having seen the newspaper seller's torso before - is that a new print? Or if not, where does it come from? Quote
jonwil Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 My guess is that the torso is from a set due out later in 2012 such as the city mining sets. Quote
Rick Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 I'm seriously disappointed and let down. I'd rather there were no city sets this year than these lacklustre efforts. In the early 2000s TLG 'scaled up' City: vans and trucks became 6-wide (instead of 4-wide) vehicles. And those vehicles, and I think most people would agree, just keep getting better and better. But they simply cannot 'afford' to make the structures bigger as well. So they end up being relatively 'empty' (like the car park or the vehicle bays in most police and fire stations) or just small. But for realistic buildings, AFOLs can always turn to CREATOR houses and the Modular Buildings. Yes, those come at a significantly higher price, but you just can't have it all. Quote

It looks professional enough to be in a set [...]. I was actually thinking the same thing. I just can't imagine TLG producing a sticker like that just for the purpose of putting it in a layout. (On the other hand, of course, it could be AFOL custom made ...) Quote
HighFlyer Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Thanks for the images "Eiker86"! I have uploaded a video to Youtube which shows pictures of the new set, and some of the hospital. Enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI-JmWB3atQ&feature=channel_video_title Quote
TomRoid Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 (edited) You know those 16-wide buildings? Well the top of the Hospital may be one of those (8X16) but it could already be attatched by side to the rest of the building. It'd be nice to have another stackable/pre-fab/mini/micro/modular building. The Hpspital doesn't look too bad and may have some good features. The garage is kind of interesting and may have cool cars. Edited February 19, 2012 by TomRoid Quote

gifinim Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 That's the hospital? That? More like a doctors office Hopefully the helicopter is a separate set and they'll both have a sensible price (for a change). I'd rather have had no helicopter and a bigger building. Quote

Vindicare Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 That black torso with the vest is from Dino, specifically 5885. Quote
gifinim Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 helicopter is part of the set, this hospital not the greatest but it is much better than 7892-1 hospital I'd say they are on a par. They both don't have enough playable rooms, come with lots of extra bits that bump the price up too much and prove that Lego designers don't go to hospitals much. On the other hand, the police stations are really detailed and look great. Maybe that's where they spend their time! Quote
EM4CZ Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 LEGO hospitals are now more like a rural health center or only medical helicopter base. Quote
MetroiD Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 On the other hand, the police stations are really detailed and look great. Maybe that's where they spend their time! I remember watching a vid a couple of years back of LEGO Designers visiting an actual police station in Denmark... That's also where they came up with the idea to develop the German shepherd-style dog mould for the first time. So yeah, I'd go out on a limb and say that they probably do that Quote

We can not really comment on the interior of the new hospital/medical centre....we can not see the back of it ! And by the looks of it.....it beats 7892 hands down as it's the worse Lego city set ever....seriously a chain saw in the operating room ! Quote
Piranha Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 It's like what MAH4546 said "It comes with four cars - the beige van, yellow and blue cars and the orange tow truck." The blue car is JC 4207, beige van is KB 4207, and the yellow is GH 4207, the tow truck is SJ 4207 Click for bigger image Click for bigger image Security booth: Added lots more pictures at my Flickr account Thanks for the pictures. I wonder if the set will come with that large dark grey baseplate it is displayed on? Very neat to watch. Quote
jonwil Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Me, I want to know where I get that blue bicycle in one of those pictures. And I would love to know why so many bikes in LEGO City are red compared to all the other colors they could be using (including the aforementioned blue or how about a yellow bike?) Quote
The Blue Brick Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) I know theres going to be a new blue bike in an upcoming friends summer set. I forgot which one though. I think it might be medium blue though. Edited February 20, 2012 by The Blue Brick Quote

The blue bike mentioned by The Blue Brick is going to be in the Friends set with the camper, set # 3184. But it's definitely light blue, not the darker blue as shown in the pictures. But it seems at least someone in TLG has gotten sick and tired of red bikes ... I see one in the trash at the recycling compound. Quote
The Blue Brick Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) As far as I know you can get the bicycle in red, black, white, green, yellow, blue, transparent red, pink, bright light orange, and light blue which is in the upcoming Friends Camper set. I also hope we start to get more colors in future sets. Edited February 20, 2012 by The Blue Brick Quote
jonwil Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Where did the blue, trans-red and orange bikes come from? I cant find any information that they ever appeared in a set... Quote

I've never heard of some of those colors. I've seen yellow and pink, 2 colors I never knew existed on eBay before. I'd like a box of 8-10 bikes of different colors. That would be a must buy for me! nemo Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) If you look in the top left of this picture That picture does show the design problem with the new brick pattern 2x1 – when staggered (normal building technique surely) the pattern doesn’t line up correctly, the vertical mortar lines clash. Look at the bridge supports in the original image. [Edit: Here’s a clearer image] I think there should have been three brick courses, mirrored on the other side, so that both staggered and parallel building would work correctly, bricks offset by tiles would still line up, and the mortar lines should go all the way around the bricks. As it is it’s a very poor design. I was hoping it was an early draft in LDD but no, there it is in the bridge. Edited February 20, 2012 by nemo Quote

It is not supposed to match up if you look here you can see what I mean http://www.freeimage...k_wall_0198.jpg real bricks work the same way as lego, they stagger them to add strength otherwise you could have a case where all the bricks in the stack not being connected to anything else so they would collapse Edited February 20, 2012 by danim Quote
