The Legonater Posted August 8, 2011 Author Posted August 8, 2011 I see the wings assembled backwards a lot, even in pictures of official sets built by other people. Is there some kind of discrepancy in instruction manuals between regions? I think it's just because it's an odd design. A lot of wings are usually angled the other way, so people automatically assume the X-Wing is too. Quote
The Legonater Posted August 10, 2011 Author Posted August 10, 2011 I'm hoping this is the last update for the first two ships. I managed to find some flex tubing, so I've used that, and shortened the X-Wing wings. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I'm not too sure about the T-65's nose, but other than that, they look great! Quote
Fallenangel Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I'm not too sure about the T-65's nose, but other than that, they look great! I agree with Archduke III... this looks to be a promising creation! The TIE/ln looks very nice. Quote
Hollander Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 (edited) The mini TIE fighter looks pretty cool. It's very realistic for such a small scale, a good job you did there. I think the X-wing is pretty nice, but I would replace the nose too. Except from that, no critique. Edited August 11, 2011 by Hollander Quote
The Legonater Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 Updated. Whoever says Y-Wings are easy to make clearly hasn't tried. This craft is very underestimated. The head alone took me 5 different designs to look good, never mind the engines. If you're an early MOCer and want to stretch your skills, give yourself a specific scale, and make a Y-Wing in the scale. Quote
Big Cam Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Erm I don't like the nose on the X-wing, but the TIE's looking great. That's funny, I was just going to say I like the nose of the X-Wing. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 The back portion is pretty good, but it looks too fat to me. Do you have comparison shot? It also looks too big compared to the other two. Quote
Fallenangel Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 (edited) That's some fine greebling you've done on the Y-wing. I think a bit of SNOT could improve the look of the head area, though. Personally, I've thought that the simpler shapes that make up the Y-wing would allow a better transition into LEGO, but I'll take your word for it. Edited August 11, 2011 by fallenangel309 Quote
Hollander Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Yummie, greebles! As for the Y-wing, I can only point out what Brickdoctor already mentioned. The greebles are very decent, although I would recommend you to reduce the size of the whole thing too. It's just too large compared to the other two neat models you made. And indeed, trying some SNOT technices may turn out well. Quote

According to fallenangel's measurements, the Y-Wing is perfectly to scale with the TIE and X-Wing, give or take a stud. Quote
Fallenangel Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 In defense of my measurements, the Y-wing should be considerably longer and ever so slightly narrower than the X-wing; both criteria are met in comparing The Legonater's MINIs. (The X-wing is 13 studs long by 10 studs wide and the Y-wing is 17 studs long by 8 studs wide.) Quote
thelegoguy Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 (edited) awesome, but how long did it take you to make all of them ? ,anyway keep up the good work Edited August 12, 2011 by thelegoguy Quote

The X-Wing- not including the pesky little modifications- was built literrally overnight. The Y-Wing took another 3-4 days. Quote

Initially it looked to wide but now it looks fine. Quote
KimT Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Sheeesh! I hate those spoiler brackets. They're good for spoilers, not images. Quote

Masked Builder Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 The front nose looks big to me as well. Still not a bad start! Quote
The Legonater Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 Updated. I would have taken an actually picture, but I'm having difficulties finding some of the aprts, and I'm leaving for the week on Saturday, so I decided it would be best to do up an aproximation on LDD. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Hmm... not to sure about this one, to be honest. I think the wings are too close to the body. Maybe even too big overall. I also think the back end lacks the shape of the TIE x1. Quote
Skipper Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 i think the curved part of the wings are way too long. In general though they're all cool and it's shaping up to be a good moc . Quote

Also, the back was very last second as I compeltely forgot about the change of shape . If you have any ideas for the wings, by all means- shoot. They're the only thing I haven't been able to officially finish Edited August 25, 2011 by The Legonater Quote

They're the only thing I haven't been able to officially finish Other than the technique used in the official MINI, I can't really think of anything, either. All I can think of is a SNOT design that'd look awesome from the side and ugly from the front. Quote
Fallenangel Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 (edited) I think all that needs to be said of the design has been said, so here are some alternatives for the wings: TsoAutTmo - bar clips: Roguebantha - cheese slopes with brackets: Legostein - slope bricks: Edited August 13, 2011 by fallenangel309 Quote
