Why can't you just put it in your Amazon basket and see if you can check out? Plenty of us purchased them from Amazon France over the last two weeks...

Yeah but he wants it under $500 and it costs around $750 if you buy it from amazon.fr.

I was responding to the confirm from amazon under $500 part - the only way to confirm that now is to begin to go through with a sale...

I tryed a few weeks ago but got a high price and I'm getting confused with VAT. I was just wondering if anyone was still buying them for a fair price. Ive done this befor with other sites and now I get bombarded with permotional emails as I need to entre details into the system to get a quote for the goods and postage.

Id really like to get it when Lego finally runs the last of its stock on clearance but how know when this will be and I'm sure everyone will jump on it then.

Im just finding it hard to fund this purchase but so I want to get it for the cheapest possable and I dont want to missout on the chance of getting this awsome set.

Ive been offered from some lovely guys in the US to send it to them from Lego US and they will ship it to me. This looks like my best offer at the moment. I love the friendy Eurobrick Lego community  .

Thanks for everones help though.

I think that's your best option, it seems to be a set that will disappear shortly. Amazon.fr had it reappear briefly a few weeks ago, but it hasn't been seen since it sold out again, and if you really want this set, I wouldn't take the chance that it would reappear there.

You are never going to get this set on clearance, it's too popular. Get it as cheap as you can now.

The trick with Amazon.fr is to go almost to the last step of purchase in order to see the final amount of the sale excluding VAT. You will have to enter credit card details but this will not mean you are locked in to the purchase.

One thing I've learnt with Lego bargains is that if something comes up at a really good price you don't hesitate (if you've the money of course) - even if you may see it for a little cheaper later it's better than missing out or paying a premium down the track - its just a pity you didn't grab one last week!

This is exactly what I've done with the Maersk train (10219). I paid full US RRP ($120) at amazon.com, but shipping was less than $20, and seeing it will never make it Australia (and RRP is $200 anyway), I had to snap it up while I had the chance rather than watching, waiting and hoping it might get discounted a little, and then potentially missing out altogether. These 10XXX numbered sets are often going to be the ones that are hard to find at a reasonable price once Lego stops selling them.

Me too! I did exactly the same thing. I ummed and ahhed on that for weeks and weeks on Amazon after having liked it since it came out - waited until I worked through my spending guilt and then finally bit the bullet when the currency peaked (saved me a whole couple of dollars!). I'm still waiting for it to arrive actually.

Also bit the (different) bullet on the Maersk ship at around the same time (wanted that one since 2005) through Bricklink when I had the chance to throw it in with another order for no extra shipping charge and a decent price. I'm still waiting on that one to get here too - currently in the tracking black hole waiting for paranoia to set in that I won't ever receive the parcel stage - not sure if I'm the only one that gets paranoid waiting for orders to arrive...

Sorry that went perhaps a little off topic!

I read that (due to a discount mistake) canadians where picking up the UCS Falcon for as little as $200 from S@H when they finally went on clearance to run the last of the stock out. You would have to be quick to pick any of the big sets up on clearance as they dont hang around for long. Your right about jumping a set when it looks good, Im finding it hard to get the cash for this but I really dont want to miss out on it.

Thanks for the Amazon.fr tip  .

Yeah I've read about that too - I haven't seen anything like that available on out S@H and they seem to sell out in a matter of minutes - for every one person who picked up a bargain there were dozens complaining about missing out!

As for the cost - I can understand your pain, it certainly isn't a cheap set! I have to admit that in spite of being a somewhat compulsive collector of 'mega sets' I wasn't planning on buying one (I snobbishly prefer my more 'artistic' Death Star II personally), but the $400 pricetag sucked me in. It is actually a pretty great diaorama I have to say. That said it's easy to say 'buy it!', but at the end of the day it's a huge amount of money to plonk down on pieces of plastic. I don't know how all these AFOLs keep buying new stuff sometimes every week!

They may not pop up on amazon.fr that cheaply again but they do seem to come in and out of stock at their regular price... Worthwhile keeping an eye on it I'd say.

  • 4 weeks later...

I just checked Amazon.fr and this has sky rocketed. *oh2* $899 US is what they are asking for now. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, looks like im too late to get this a $500 delivered now  . As laways I should have junped on it them I could. Im getting money for Christmas and was hoping to get this, but might be out of my reach now. I will need to keep looking.

Edit that is $899 Euro not US  .
