vexorian Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Probably not that much interest on Duplo Princess here, but posting the set list nevertheless, coming from a web site http://www.spielwaren-lippe.de, first discovered (at least on Eurobricks) by Mesonak here. LEGO DUPLO PRINCESS Schneewittch. Hütte [snow White's Hut] 14,01 € LEGO DUPLO PRINCESS Dornröschens Schlafgemach [sleeping Beauty's Sleeping Chamber] 12,14 € LEGO DUPLO PRINCESS Aschenputtels Prinzessinnenkutsche [Cinderella's Princess Carriage] 23,36 € LEGO DUPLO PRINCESS Aschenputtels Märchennschloss [Cinderella's Fairytale Castle] 46,72 € Meh, so TLG wanted to make a female-friendly theme. And they also got the Princess license, but it didn't occur to them to use that Princess license for system sets, so they went with "Friends" instead. Quote

Yeah, pity they are not planning a system release.....my son would kill for the 7 dwarf's - Hi Ho ! Perhaps if the Duplo theme takes off maybe they'll do a system one.....those titles would fit the Kingdom's/castle theme perfectly ! Quote

The problem though is if they would sell with System. I know they would, but it's like Belville, which was pretty much the same thing. But I do hope for System in the long run. :) -Omi Quote

It's kind of an unusual situation since TLG has never done a licensed theme targeted at a minority audience like girls before, so we don't know how the extra cost to make up for royalties would play over in a theme that's already targeting a niche demographic. But the fact that TLG is giving it a chance in Duplo could mean they'd also be willing to take the plunge with a System theme. Of course, if it were done with the Friends style of figure, then parts like the new mermaid tail from PotC or the octopus tentacles from Atlantis might not be able to be used, depending on how the Friends figures are assembled. That would be a real shame. But at the same time, until the Friends line shows real promise in terms of sales I don't think we should discount the possibility of girl-oriented sets using traditional minifigures... just two years ago we had the Large Pink Brick Box, and this year on the extended-line front there's a female minifigure clock with a clearly girl-oriented color scheme, so TLG obviously still recognizes the power of the minifigure as an icon for male and female audiences alike. I must have missed that memo. Friends? :O -Omi Quote
Clone OPatra Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I must have missed that memo. Friends? :O Not Friends the sitcom, if that's what you're thinking. That's the name of the new City girl-oriented theme that's replacing Belville. Quote

Oky Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 Don't get too excited. They aren't minifigs, more like large Polly Pockets. That said, if they do decide to go into System, I sure hope they do it with minifigs, even if they have to create new TS-style head molds for them. Quote

K-Nut Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Not bad, we do get a Red, which I'm happy for. The small sets aren't great, but nice. Hopefully there's more to Maters escape set. But I need to see the Oil rig escape set! Quote
prateek Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Bigger pictures of the smaller sets here. Quote
kingcjc Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 (edited) The small cars sets strike me as an attempt to get in on the success of the mattel Cars or an attempt to get more money out of collectable toys, like ninjago spinners and collectable minifigures. To be fair, they're toy cars. It's the same market TLG was targeting with the Tiny Turbos, even before there was a license involved. Even before Cars existed as a franchise, companies like Hot Wheels and Matchbox were extremely successful in marketing toy cars, so for TLG to have their own answer to that style of individually-packaged toy car is not particularly unusual. CM and NinjaGo sell like crazy, so I wouldn't blame them. Quote

Oky Posted October 13, 2011 Author Posted October 13, 2011 Thanks, I've added the US and Australian prices to the first post. Also, thanks to member refriedbeans, who brings us news of a Lego Cars build event at TRU where they will give out a Rod "Torque" Redline set! It says it's exclusive to this event, but I think he might be included in the upcoming Oil Rig Escape set. I don't think TLG would make new printed parts for an exclusive set like that. Quote
