Cwetqo Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Next year Johnny Depp will starr in two major Disney movies: PoTC 5 and Lone Ranger. I think that there is pretty good possbility that Lego will make something of it. Quote
Lyichir Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Am I the only one to notice a distinct lack of Brave sets??? It would have been an easy theme, as its all the pieces can be reused from Fantasy and Action lines. They already have molds for bows, swords, and fantasy themed outfits. Heck, even a FRIENDS set would have been neat! I thought about how a Friends-style set would work for that, but while it seems easy on the surface, I'd think you'd find a lot of difficulty if you tried to build an entire theme around it. Consider this: from what I've seen in commercials (haven't gotten to the movie yet), Merida is just about the only character who the Friends proportions would suit. Her brothers would necessitate a new "Friends child" mold, her father would need a very large, very specialized mold... the list of issues goes on and on. Meanwhile, I don't think regular minifigures would work that well, either. Most Pixar movies have a very expressive, cartoony style. With minifigures you'd have to eliminate that almost entirely, lest you enter a Clone Wars-type situation where the figs neither match the source's style (due to a lack of features like noses) nor fit in with other minifigures (due to having large, expressive eyes instead of the classic black bead with sparkle). In summary, just because a movie is good doesn't necessarily mean it would make a good LEGO theme. I do wish LEGO had done sets for Wall-E, though; apart from the humans, most of the characters are mechanical and non-humanoid, making them well suited to LEGO. Quote

I think that there is pretty good possbility that Lego will make something of it. Where was confirmed that POTC 5 is coming next year? Did I miss something? And for the Lone Ranger, I think it's very possible that sets for the movie are coming next year, but it depends if PoP sets sold well, as Lone Ranger is a completely new franchise... If anything, we'll here something about it at SDCC next week. Edited July 5, 2012 by just2good Quote
Brickity Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Ahh there will be so much Disney stuff going on next year, so I should forget about my Disney Classics Quote

AngryChair Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 I really can't see a Lone Ranger range unless they go back to doing western themes again (not impossible as there hasn't been one in ages). There's definitely no PoTC film next year as I don't think the script has been written yet. There's Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 next year so I'd expect some sets from those Quote
Aanchir Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I think the reason there aren't any sets based on Brave probably has to do with the new license for The Lord of the Rings. TLG probably didn't want to have two medieval-fantasy themes out at once and so they chose the one which they figured would have the strongest lasting potential. Quote
CM4Sci Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 I read on a LEGO site we're getting Lone Ranger sets for the Western theme next year. -Sci Quote

just2good Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 I believe that was this which doesn't confirm it but only rumors it. Then again, All About Bricks was right about the 2012 set list last year... Quote
