Hmm... It seems the pic's are gone now. :sceptic:

Well, I got a good look at them, but I just wasn't quick enough to save.

Anyway, when I first saw them, I was very disapointed.

But, the more I looked at them, the more I realised how good they were. :classic:

What I first thought were futuristic guns = Tranquilisers. Very clever, great move by Lego.

What I first thought were ugly, Dino 2010-esque dino's = Actually pretty nice. Molded, but still 'blocky' enough to look like Lego.

I originally thought I would completly skip this theme, but I actually really like them now.

Although, that looks nothing like a Coelophysis.

The picture's still available for viewing here, if anyone hasn't seen it. Best to save them in case they're deleted from there too. :classic:

I've also found them somewhere else. Immediately saved them. I'm not going to post a link, because I'm paranoid that Lego will shut it down if I do. :look:

Yeah, I agree about the Jake Raines bit. That would be QUITE a stretch for him to co-exist with high-tech jungle safari machinery. Perhaps LEGO is just using his head as a stock head now?

I wouldn't rule out time travel...perhaps he had some adventures with Dr. Cyber and Timmy and got dropped off in the 21st century? Or perhaps time doesn't pass on Dino Island, which is why the dinosaurs are still there, and Jake was stranded on the island back in the 20's? Or perhaps he's a modern-day descendant of Jake's...I think the Atlantis backstory had a character with a 1920's era adventurer ancestor... :)

I'm all over this theme! The trucks are very cool and so far the only two sets I don't like are the plane and the base. That Heli is so cool. I'm glad LEGO has redesigned the dinos too. They look much better.

Hmm, not bad! The classic-styled look which we've been seeing recently in Alien Conquest is also here, and it fits well.

Looks like this is a reference to Jurassic Park, with the colour scheme and the logos visible on the vehicles.

I think I'll only be getting the three sets on the right, however. The larger dinosaurs are a little ridiculous.

Does anyone else think that it's weird that these vehicles match the minifigures' skin tone?

Not really. Yellow vehicles are common in LEGO, and have been for a long, long time. If their uniforms were yellow, like some of the Classic Spacemen, it would be a bit odd, but as it is it doesn't really seem weird for their vehicles to be yellow.

Think of it this way: if you saw a black man driving a brown car would it seem weird to you? If so, you might be overthinking things.

I was kind of hoping the dinosaurs would be along the lines of the Ninjago dragons, but they still look awesome, especially the Tyrannosaurus rex. Totally getting that set.

Yeah, the announcement that the dinosaurs would be molded surprised me.

With all of the (great looking) brick-built creatures in Pharaoh's Quest, Ninjago and Atlantis, I wish they had stuck with that. :sceptic:

They don't look that bad though, much better than Dino 2010/Attack.

Really? I was hoping for something like what we've got....

5884: Also a nice medium set. A 4X4 vehicle (somewhat similar to the one from Dino-attack, only smaller) to catch the attacking raptor. Once again they use food to catch the dino. Also included is a reinforced radar station of some kind. But wait..is that a city skyline in the background I see? Maybe it's just the picture but I do see some sky-scraper like contours in the background. Meditate about this I will

That actually very interesting, I can see it in the smaller picture of the Research Station box, too.

I wonder...

Glad to see the mystery gun show up. The sets are pretty neat, but I don't have space for them. I will be picking up some of the guns and syringes if they come in trans color.

Yeah those guns do look cool.

The only thing that would make them cooler is if the clip was separate.

But, since it's not, I'll like to see what a telescope piece or a short bar piece looks like in the clip.

Well, it's always neat when Lego tries something new, but as I said, I'm quite, quite happy with these dinosaurs. That Tyrannosaurus rex is easily the most accurate one yet. Same goes for the Triceratops.

I do wonder how many minifigures can fit into the T. rex's mouth.

I am not sure how I feel about the dinosaurs yet. They seem a little too realistic for Minifigures to exist with. Minifigures have hands shaped like magnets, and earless heads(save the elf) I am not sure how the dinosaurs would look like alongside them. But who knows, I might grow to like them.

I think a lot of the disappointment with molded dinosaurs stems from the fact that many AFOLs tend to look at dino's as monsters, and as such expect them to be brick-built like PQ statues and ninjago dragons. I think of them as animals like the horse and cow. And since I certainly don't interchange parts for crocs and cows etc, I don't think dinosaurs should be interchangeable either.

Hm, that's a good question! It looks like it might fit two. They really should advertise the "minifigure gobbling action"!

That's a good point, although technically if brickbuilt dinos were done to a certain level of quality they could still fit in with LEGO animals. Ninjago demonstrates with some of its dragons (specifically, the Lightning Dragon and Earth Dragon) how a brickbuilt creature can have a moderately studded exterior (i.e. not completely studless but not totally blocky in shape or covered in studs either). And while the Ninjago dragons have specialized head molds, for me this just serves as another way that they are made more compatible with minifigures and minifig animals.

Brickbuilt dinosaurs with the same sort of design considerations would be trickier. Being based on real creatures, they would have to adhere more strictly to a particular shape, rather than being completely imaginary fantasy beasts. I have not to date seen any brickbuilt dinosaur MOCs that look like they could fit in aesthetically with minifigures or minifig animals. But I wouldn't outright dismiss the possibility that it could be done.

Still, TLG has never done brickbuilt dinosaurs in a minifig theme before, and I see no reason they're letting us down by not doing it now. Really, I personally like how some parts are reused between dinosaurs, just like in the 2001 Dinosaurs theme and in Dino Attack (they seem somewhat less interchangeable than Dino Attack's pieces, but I prefer these ones for their simpler and less stylized design). I'm also magnificently grateful that there are new arms for the T-Rex and the medium-sized raptor. It bothered me in Adventurers Dino Island and the 2001 Dinosaurs theme that the classic dragon arms were reused, rather than a smoother and more realistic arm piece.

You've got to remeber what scale those dragons are: they're pretty big. The dinosaurs (or most of them) are pretty small. I don't have a problem with the small ones being molded and the T-Rex being brick built. But that wouldn't look good. And you'd have to choose between having all brick-built and all molded. And personally, I think they made a good choice making them molded.

My thoughts exactly.

I really don't have an issue with any of the new dino's, with the possible exception of celeophysis they are all just accurate enough without being too accurate to be Lego. I'd like to get a clearer look at that base, it looks right now like a must-buy for me. Actually they all do except for the plane. Someone mentioned getting a Jack Stone vibe off it, and I'm bound to say that thought occurred to me as well. Even so, this is one of the first themes that I have felt tempted to buy in its entirety.

Its interesting to note that in Dino Attack the focus was mostly on the vehicles, (for good reason) whereas this time around its the dinosaurs themselves which are the main eye-catchers. Its also kinda weird that there is only one herbivore in the line-up, although I guess kids may think the carnivores are more interesting.

I wonder...

Personally, I've been wondering why there appear to be paved roads in the images for 5882, 5884, 5885, and 5886.

Judging by the modern vehicles, my guess is that it's a "dino island" scenario in the vein of Jurassic Park. So it's probably just there to show that they are indeed in the 21st century. Guess that rules out time travel.
