SoupOrFishOil Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Has it even been confirmed that the green ninja is a character that we know of already? it could just be that the green ninja turns up out of nowhere, but from whatI've read it's supposed to be the "destiny" of an established character. Hmmm. Do you think we'll find out soon? Probably not until the end of this series, but I don't know why you'd ask me, I just pointed out the 5. Is it just me or are the Green Ninja's eyes really close together compared to other characters? The green ninja had aspects of all of the ninja: he had control over fire (Kai), he had extreme strength (Cole), and... wow, somehow I can't remember the things he had in common with Jay and I only watched those episodes about four or five days ago. But anyway, I thought it was worth mentioning that he was similar to all of them because Lord Garmadon has control over all the elements (albeit "unbalanced"). So since Lloyd Garmadon is Lord Garmadon's son, maybe he could potentially have control over all four elements, leading to similarities to the ninja masters of each one? It seems like kind of a stretch to me, but remember, Greg Farshtey is the one coming up with this stuff. For all we know, the Green Ninja is Lloyd from the future, which would explain him being larger. EDIT: Rocketbilly, it was stated by a scroll Sensei Wu had that the Green Ninja was one of Sensei Wu's four students. So now that I think about that, maybe Lloyd isn't the green ninja. Or maybe the scroll is wrong. Really, are you sure that it said one of four students, not just a student? Something else to note about the Green Ninja is that he ties his belt similarly to Lloyd-- higher on his waist than the other Ninja. Not sure if that's relevant. The exact wording of the scroll (at least, as exact as I can remember it) was that one ninja would rise above the others and become the Green Ninja. But at the same time, I believe this was read by Zane, who was himself uncertain about how the scroll should be translated (it was in an ancient language). So having it so that he misinterpreted the scroll would be the sort of subversion of expectations that is wonderful for this type of storyline. That could also mean Kai though. I remember getting some poster from LEGO Magazine earlier this year with a poster of the characters on one side and some bios on the characters on the other side. Kai's said that he would have to become the most powerful ninja. I still suspect Lloyd though. Quote
Oky Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 ... And there's the giant robot this theme was still missing. Thanks, whung! Does anyone else think we'll get a Lloyd Garmadon's Tree House/Fortress set? With all the booby traps and stuff, it would seem like just the sort of playset TLG would release. Also, a pink Ninja? Seriously? We might as well rename this theme Power Rangers: The Lego Ninja Version. Quote

Lyichir Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 With a few great exceptions, the store exclusives too often scream 'afterthought' and 'recycled, stripped down, mainstream set medley', but like you said, alternate minifig source and full of good parts (nuckals atv). My qualm with that skink walker is that plus diluted echoes of the capital U-g-l-y that is the Mine Mech, awkwardly intersected by a stubby viper. I love big tacky monster shaped vehicles (skull truck), conceptually a snake walker is appealing, but the realization falls short. How dare you insult the mine mech? It's like the Power Miners equivalent of the Power Loader from Aliens. I do agree about the snake mech, though. The Mine Mech fit in with Power Miners sets because they all had that industrial feel. But most of the snake vehicles are WAY sleeker than this thing. On the other hand, it's not much worse (or less original) than Nuckal's ATV was. Quote
SoupOrFishOil Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 (edited) About this "pink ninja" thing, Zane's robes were messed up one way or another, but I doubt that it hints that he's the green ninja. If you've seen the clip, it's the normal robes he had this year, not his ZX or Kendo costumes. So, the pink robes'll probably be replaced by something white, like the ZX or Kendo costume. Rocketbilly Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 (edited) Well the snake-mech looks decent as a set but where it really shines for me are the parts. These will be great for action figure MOCS. It appears to have the new socket pieces used in the upcoming Hero Factory and Super Hero "constraction" figures in lime, and also the 2X2 brick with a socket piece appears to have been reinforced to be stronger and more like the 2010 Hero Factory Joints. Glad to see this. The other set seems to be good for parts and adds something more to the wave what with it not having any vehicles in it, but sadly I expect this is a limited edition, too. Aanchir Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 (edited) Grogall linked this in the Collectible Minifigures Series 6 topic. There's a couple Ninjago-related things to observe here. First, evidently to celebrate the new wave, the January Mini Model Build is a cobra. Additionally, from December 26-January 31, if you spend 50£ or more, you get an exclusive Kendo Jay booster pack. There are some decent weapon pieces in that as well as that lovely lightning-printed "crown" for your spinners (which I'm not sure comes in any other sets seen so far). Let's see, I'll have to get the Rattlecopter, but then I'll need to pick up spinners for all the ZX ninja because the sets generally fail to have the shoulderpads...hmm... What's the cheapest way to get all 4 Snake Staffs as well as all 4 ZX ninja WITH the shoulderpads? (I don't really care about the Kendo figs, though I'll gladly take that booster pack for Jay. My motto: never turn down "free" LEGO. ) Quote

Aanchir Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 (edited) Just was doing a Google search for images of the Destiny's Bounty and found a couple high-res images we hadn't seen before on Amazon.de: The Destiny's Bounty from side view Sensei Wu in his new robes-- still hard to make out any detail The Destiny's Bounty is an amazing set and the one I most look forward to in the upcoming wave. Also, Amazon.co.uk suggests that we will be getting another Ninjago Brickmaster book. EDIT: Also, four BIONICLE books found on Amazon.de: 1 2 3 4 The cover illustrations show us lots of Serpentine we haven't seen before, both including generals and "normal" snakemen. There are at least three types of green snakeman minfigures and four types of black snakeman minifigures that haven't appeared in sets. I find it interesting how the release pattern of the Serpentine has mostly given us characters from either the Hypnobrai or Fangpyre tribes so far. I would assume this is because the tribes will be awakened one by one in the TV series, and that these two are among the first. Speaking of the tribes, we obviously know that the special power of the Hypnobrai is hypnosis-- if it weren't obvious from the name, the first two episodes of the TV show make this clear. But this MOC by Nabii reveals the special power of the Fangpyre tribe. Now we know where the snake vehicles come from, and why none appeared in the TV series for the first couple episodes. Algernon Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Something's bothering me about that mech and I'm not sure what it is. I think it may be the lack of knees. I do like the general design though. I'm hoping to see some more reviews soon. Quote

I do like the general design though. Yeah, that's definitely why it looks so odd, plus the fact that snakes don't normally have legs. I think I see a transforming function! The legs look like they might be able to fold forwards or back, producing a strange boat-like vehicle. Something interesting, the Arena has a gold khopesh if you missed out on it from Pharaoh's Quest. The pitchfork may look out of place, but it's the choice weapon of angry mobs everywhere. Also, look at what the other guy's holding, a weird bat of some sort? Quote

I checked the alternate image at amazon.co.jp, but it doesn't tell us much about that other weapon besides that it has a spike on the end. Incidentally, here are some slightly larger pictures: 9455 box 9455 9456 box 9456 The mech's snake head uses the same lovely technique as the snake head on Nabii's Viper Viper I linked a few posts back, closing up the gap in the forehead using the 8x2 spike piece that debuted in 2008 Exo-Force sets. However, the mech uses it in a new color (earth green blended with bright yellowish green, rather than entirely bright yellowish green). The out-of-box pic IMO makes the set look much more appealing, in part because you can see that it's actually snake-shaped. I also have to say, as much as I love the "snake vs. dragon" motif in the arena set, I can't bring myself to warm up to that dragon. It just doesn't look especially dragon-like from what I can tell. But again, the out-of-box pic makes it look slightly better. I'll have to see a larger, clearer pic before I can make an educated decision, although I love the concept. Quote

lowbike1 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 (edited) I dont know if this has been discussed, but @ Target, the venomari shrine is selling for $8:99, but on Legos actual website it is listed as $6.99...I always felt that $8.99 was a little high, but $6.99 is about right Edited December 7, 2011 by lowbike1 Quote
