Darth Nihilus Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 $100+ for 2 minifigures? Exaggerate much? On BL, each figure from the SW Republic Frigate is $20+, more if it has a new part/recolored in it. That is an example of my point. If these figures were to be desirable, the price would skyrocket. And the only two figures that are exclusive to that set that the sellers can get away with selling for ridiculous prices would be the two generals. All I'm saying is, there are cheaper ways to get the figures than buying them from a questionable source like Ebay or Bricklink. Quote

Delta 38 Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Interesting. I thought Mezmo was the same colour as the other blue snakes we have now? I'm not sure story-wise, but either way, some variety is nice. I'm in the same boat here. The Epic Dragon Battle is definitely overkill, and I don't particularly like the dragon because it's way too bulky. Quote

I really agree with many of the sentiments on the "Dragon" part of the "Epic Dragon Battle", but other than that I think that the set isn't too bad. The Samurai Mech, on the other hand.... Quote

I really agree with many of the sentiments on the "Dragon" part of the "Epic Dragon Battle", but other than that I think that the set isn't too bad. The Samurai Mech, on the other hand.... Agreed. The only summer wave set that piques my interest is the Ultra Sonic Raider, mostly due to Pythor (purple's my favourite colour) and the insane amount of gold sai blades you get, but I'd have to see clearer pics to know for sure whether I'm going to buy it or not. Sid Sidious Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Epic dragon battle is my favorite set of the new wave. I think the dragon is awesome, and it's great that it happens to come with a bunch of cool minifigs. Quote

Certainly been given the best minifigs but a price like the Dragon temple that will need to come down before I go near it. Saying that bought the Fire tempele today..... Quote

I think that the dragon combiner looks awful, but if and when I get the set, I'll split it into four NRG dragons, with mainly white in the color scheme with highlights of their symbolic color. The rest of the set looks great in the prelims, but I guess we'll find out when Nurmberg Toy Fair comes around tomorrow. Quote

DashCobra Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 I think TLG went slightly overboard on the Epic Dragon Battle. Four heads is three too many and well... it just looks "tacky". Maybe they will have improved the design since the prelims, I hope so. Quote

Awful-looking catapult. 3. All the minifigs come in either a Spinner or Booster Pack, so buying it for the figs is a waste of money. 4. Colorscheme Quote

There's only one spinner crown, on the front, and it's just cladding for the mech, what's so bad about that? 2. It's just a regular catapult...so? Plus, it's merely a gimmick; not part of the actual mech. 3. Firstly, no they don't, Snike doesn't come in either. Secondly, with the exception of Snike, ALL NEW MINIFIGS COME IN A SPINNER OR BOOSTER PACK. 4. Red, black and gold. Matches Nya/Samurai X, and is a colour scheme I'm fond of anyway. I like it. One on the front (The worst place in my opinion) and 2 on the shoulders, which makes the mech look bulky and rather thrown-together, like it is just a larger spinner expnasion pack, rather like the Cole Tread Assault or the Fangpyre Truck. 2. No, it is not really a bad thing, if it was a Snake tribe associated with air, that is. The Constrictai are generally associated with earth, and earth's 'counter-element' is air, so a Constrictai flying doesn't make much sense to me. 3. The 3 new generals, Sensei Wu, Kai ZX. 4. Not really; her colorscheme includes no black unless you give her the large sword or the pike in the spinner, yet the mech has black as a dominant color, as well as using just regular red rather than regular and dark red as on the figure. Mainly, my criticisms are just nitpicks, but since the images are preliminary, I would rather wait until Nuremberg/NYC Toyfairs before making my final purchase decisions. Quote

Personally, I love the use of snake crowns on the Fangpyre Truck, but yeah, it does look a bit messy on the Samurai Mech. The 3 new generals, Sensei Wu, Kai ZX. Actually, Kai ZX does have a spinner. For some reason the characters page on the Ninjago site, along with most other online renders of the Hypnobrai serpentine, makes them look far more pale than they should. I love the Epic Dragon Battle. My twin brother and I had wanted to make a four-headed dragon using the Ninjago dragon sets, and it turns out TLG beat us to it! Also, its function sounds interesting. Even if it ends up really bulky, I don't think I'll mind its design-- it reminds me somewhat of the Exo-Force Aero Booster, another almost impractically bulky but brilliant set design. Quote

And the Venomari seem to be lightning-aligned; we'll never know the Anacondrai elemental alignment since the only one has a tail and thus can never have a spinner. Quote

There aren't any on the shoulders, look closer. Also, I think Cole's Tread Assault and the Fangpyre Truck are great, so...no complaints there. 2. It's just a gimmick, a play feature, it doesn't have to be storyline related. Besides, it could harken to their ability to shoot up from the ground. 3. The *5 new generals can't fit on spinners, there's already been two Sensei Wu spinners in the past, and as Bluebeard pointed out, there IS a Kai ZX. Snike is the only one with a fair excuse. 4. Actually, Nya/Samurai X's hands are black, and there's some black printing added to a few parts. She also has grey, gold, red and dark red on her, just like the mech. (Yes, it does have some dark red highlights.) Mainly, my criticisms are just nitpicks. They kind of are, a bit. Plus, there's some inaccuracies in there. The December LEGO Club Magazine gave us stats for Samukai and Jay DX, neither of whom had cards, so it's possible something similar could happen with Pythor and the other generals. EDIT: Just saw the new episode, Never Trust a Snake. It was entertaining, but overall quite a bit underwhelming. Given what was going on in the episode, I feel it should have been much more dramatic. In this episode, Lloyd awakens Pythor, who is quite terrifying. But Pythor's eventual betrayal of Lloyd is not nearly as dramatic as I feel it should have been. Furthermore, there's not nearly enough in the episode to make the viewer understand Lloyd's plight and eventual change of heart. His recollections elicit a bit of sympathy, but no more than his bumbling attempts at villainy had elicited previously. The music in the episode was good as always. It was nice to see Zane's falcon (and its wonderful theme music) return, even if it was only in a dream. The montage of petty crimes Lloyd and Pythor committed was hilarious, including when they literally steal candy from babies. And Sensei Wu's riddle to the ninja was a good backdrop to Lloyd's attempts at achieving vengeance against those who had wronged him, especially with how the two stories eventually came together at the end. Still, I feel that Lloyd's choice to travel with the Ninja came too quickly and easily, and Pythor's betrayal didn't sting Lloyd visibly enough compared to some of his previous (and extremely sympathetic) betrayals like the one at the end of the second episode, Home.
