K-Nut Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Lego, must you kill my wallet? The cycle looks nice, so I'll probably get that, I'll definitely get the mech, and possibly the Epic Dragon Battle, but with Star Wars, LotR, and Monster Fighters, I don't know. If Lloyd ZX is a spinner set, I'll probably stick with that. Quote

If Lloyd ZX is a spinner set, I'll probably stick with that. See, LotR is why I'm trying to stave off the Ultra Sonic Raider if at all possible. Yes, there's some cool elements, but ultimately I want the Dragon Battle, the Destiny's Bounty, and my LotR wish list (which I will talk about in the appropriate topic, rather than here ); if I want those, something has to give, and USR seems to be giving me the least bang for my buck. Dharkan Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 To my qualifications of playability, that big dragon is really really bad. I mean, it is a big mess of parts imo, a lot of wing plate-like pieces, cheese slopes, dragon heads came together with technic pieces. It isn't even easily swooshable. Old dragons were better imo. But It could be good for displaying which I have no luxury to do so. :( Quote

Anyway, a lot of people dislike this dragon, but it's looking a lot better to me than it did when we first saw leaked pictures in a YouTube video. Those pictures made it look awkward and chunky, whereas here it seems to have a substantial body design. I look forward to better pics in the weeks and months to come! Quote

Aanchir Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Apologies if I'm late with this information, but Jay Vincent has updated his site with more Ninjago music from Season 2. The new tracks are titled "True Potential", "Awakening the Devourer," "Remembering Father", "Zane Battles the Guardian", "Return of the Dragons", and "Garmadon Bites Back". Haven't listened to them yet, but I've downloaded them for my iPod and expect good things! Quote
Jargo Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Sorry to go off topic for a post but seeing Pythor who I think is a stand-out minifig for 2012, I was reminded of Randall Boggs from Monsters Inc. Not really alike but isn't it funny how your brain makes connections. So, not being a big fan of Ninjago but liking certain elements of it, who are the characters with the snake tails besides purple Pythor? I'm just using their colours to differentiate them in my head at the moment - Black, blue, red, green, Pythor. Quote

Much obliged. :) So Skales is the weakest of them and Pythor the strongest. Fangtom, Skallidor and Pythor are the ones I want. The most interesting looking. A bunch of Skallidors would look quite cool in a MOC. Quote

Aanchir Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 What do you mean by "Skales is the weakest, Pythor is the strongest"? I think he means in terms of preference (he likes Pythor best and Skales worst). Personally, I like Skales a bit more than Fangtom. In general I like the swirly eyes of the Hypnobrai (the blue Serpentine), whereas the eyes of the Fangpyre (the red ones) almost look more sleep-deprived than scary. Of course, I'm gradually warming up to them. In general, one thing that I've been a bit iffy about with all the Serpentine is their eyes. None of them are very traditional minifigure-like eyes, unlike the Skeleton Warriors who had very traditional "dot with white sparkle" eyes, albeit in a glowing red rather than the typical black. I tolerate it with the Serpentine because, as the show demonstrates, they still look awesome next to regular minifigures, plus the Serpentine minifigure designs are just so cool! Quote
Dharkan Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 After watching that 2nd video, I decided that Dragon isn't that bad at all. ^^ Quote

The Skulkens had human skeleton-style bodies. The Serpentine are not human, but snake. Hence the different eyes. Quote

Lyichir Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 The dragon looks pure ugliness to me. I'm in love with the snake though. Looks really menacing. It's weird how much opinions differ. I think the snake is only okay (the head is not much different from the snake vehicles, and I'm not hugely fond of the jaw). But I LOVE the dragon, which not only has great swooshability and an AMAZING function, but also has a beautiful color scheme (heavy on white and dark stone grey, with colored highlights on the heads and trans-green "energy" projecting from the wings). But I suppose it doesn't matter to LEGO which part of the set you like so long as you buy the set. Another thing I love in the set that not many people have mentioned is the prison/temple/tower. I had been hoping for a larger Serpentine building like the Fire Temple we got last year, but this is the next best thing. I love the antenna-like construction at the very top, and the dark red landscaping at the base. It gives a wonderfully evil vibe. Quote

I have to agree with you here, the dragon looks amazing now, except for the rather cramped-looking four heads. One head would have been good enough for me. Ah, well, it's a simple MOD. The wings are also a bit too large, but again, a simple MOD. The only real problem I have with the set which won't be simple to MOD is the Great Devourer's lower jaw. It really should be in green instead of grey. Quote
Kalhiki Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Judging by one of the videos, the dragon's tail seems to be loosely hinged so it swings freely. Which, in my opinion, gives it a cool effect when you fly it around. Definitely adds to the "swooshability". Kalhiki Quote
