Lance Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 As I said in the SW forums, our local TRU had summer sets. However, something else was happening. The whole Ninjago shelf (January sets) was being cleared off by staff, and taken away on a large trolley....... That can only mean one thing; SUMMER NINJAGO SETS!!! Unfortunetley, we couldn't wait fo them to stock the shelves as we were in a hurry. But we're going south later this week and I promised my son we'd stop at TRU Bordeux (not our local one) and see if they had the same stock. He's on about getting the Epic Dragon Battle and Samurai Mech, but we'll have to see if they have them and how much money he has. Hopefully I'll be able to reveiw the Dragon as we're taking a laptop with us. Quote

I used to think that it's so popular that all of them disappears in 2 days. Quote

Aanchir Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 The KMart site has a lot of images of the September spinner sets and booster packs: 9556 Bytar: Package Contents 9557 Lizaru: Package Contents 9573 Slithraa: Front Side Contents Versus 9574 Lloyd ZX 9590 NRG Zane: Front Side Contents In action Versus 9569 Spitta All of these sets are listed as "sold out", though I think that what they really are is "not in stock". The only September set not listed is 9574 Lloyd ZX. I did find a (smaller) image of it here, but the page it had been on seems to have been deleted, which makes me think TLG is being more secretive about this one than the others. Lloyd ZX's crown and spinner are both pretty amazing-looking. Each corner of the spinner has a pattern resembling that on one of the NRG Ninja spinners, and the crown has a similar four-element motif. Quote
DraikNova Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 (edited) The new art shown in the summer booklets is so cool. I think it's the coolest yet! Edited June 1, 2012 by DraikNova Quote
Jouster Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 I'll be honest "Born To Be A Ninja" (the Season 3 Ninjago theme song) is much much better than "Weekend Whip". You can listen to it here Quote
Lyichir Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 I'll be honest "Born To Be A Ninja" (the Season 3 Ninjago theme song) is much much better than "Weekend Whip". You can listen to it here I prefer "Weekend Whip," actually. I felt it really captured the attitudes of the ninja, both the stress of training and the payoff when they got to use their newfound skills. I suppose it's about time for a new theme song, though, considering the main four ninja are going from being the trainees to being Lloyd's new trainer. Quote
Sid Sidious Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Does anyone know if the NRG ninjas will be available in regular sets later, or will the spinners be the only way to get them? Quote
Aanchir Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Does anyone know if the NRG ninjas will be available in regular sets later, or will the spinners be the only way to get them? There are no sets currently known that have the NRG Ninja in them other than the spinners. If any of them appears again, it will be either in a store exclusive set for this year or a set for next year. With that said, the spinners for the NRG Ninja are gorgeous. They no longer feature the characters' emblems, which is a bit of a shame, but on the plus side this makes them appear more convincingly like a vortex of elemental energy, which is what Spinjitzu is officially supposed to look like anyway. Plus, the card art for the NRG ninja is amazing, and the cards will not be likely to appear anywhere except these spinner sets. Since they're a match set and extremely context-specific (they don't even really resemble the "true potential" forms from the show), I'd say getting the NRG Ninja minifigures is optional for anyone who's not a completionist. But if you're willing to pay for spinner sets at any point, I'd say these would be the ones to get. Quote
Sirtank Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 (edited) I picked up NRG Cole and Jay at Toy's R us last week, and purchased a loose Kai for $10 on Ebay. I love the metalic printing on these minifigures. The pictures don't do them justice. I can't wait for Zane to come out this fall. Edited June 2, 2012 by Sirtank Quote

Kalhiki Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 I think I've heard "Born to be a Ninja" before, and didn't really like it. But now that I gave it a second listen, it's actually pretty great. Not sure how it compares to "The Weekend Whip," though. Both are excellent songs. Kalhiki Quote
Lyichir Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 I don't like either of them; I'm not into that sort of music. Well, it's a cartoon theme song. It's not exactly supposed to be high art. Quote
Aanchir Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 I don't like either of them; I'm not into that sort of music. I'm stuck between agreeing and disagreeing. The Weekend Whip has some lyrics that fit certain aspects of the show, but it's still fairly generic pop music that I can't say fits the show perfectly. What it does have to its advantage is that it's energetic, exciting, and really well-suited to its role as a theme song-- in fact, some AFOLs thought it perfectly captured the "Saturday morning cartoon" feel even before we knew there was going to be a cartoon (granted, more of a "Wednesday evening cartoon", at least here in the States). "Born to be a Ninja" is a neat song, but again it feels somewhat generic and doesn't feel like it captures the Ninjago universe as much as the TV show's soundtrack. Additionally, the lyrics feel a lot less meaningful to me than the lyrics of The Weekend Whip. Again, though, it feels very energetic and I love its music video. As you can see I'm kind of divided on the issue. I tend to be appreciative of a wide range of musical genres (and media in general), so I can't really say I dislike either of these songs, but it's hard to say whether they really have what it takes to represent the Ninjago theme as a whole. Truth be told I probably wouldn't even be thinking about this if not for the fact that there's been a bit of a discussion on the BIONICLE fansite BZPower over what music really represents BIONICLE most effectively, and in that theme's case I've had a hard time identifying any song that captures the theme even from among its official promotional songs. Anyway, since TLG's partnership with The Fold seems to be here to stay, I think one thing that could be really cool would be if The Fold could release a pop/rock rendition of Jay Vincent and Michael Kramer's "Ninjago Overture" which they did for the show. On a side note related to the music of the series, Jay Vincent and Michael Kramer recently received a cable music award from Broadcast Music, Inc. I think they definitely deserve it. The TV show's music is iconic, catchy, and extremely fun to listen to. I kind of wish more Ninjago media (like the website) would use their compositions. Quote
DraikNova Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 I just got Kai's bike, and there are two thing's which disappoint me: 1: The sword of fire isn't included, not even a golden katana. 2: There's an oil input which says Octan . Seriously, on a ancient artifact? Quote
Omicron Squad Leader Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Well, it's a cartoon theme song. It's not exactly supposed to be high art. To me, it sounds like most of what the Pop industry is currently churning out. (Most of which is, in my opinion, garbage.) Quote
Aanchir Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 I just got Kai's bike, and there are two thing's which disappoint me: 1: The sword of fire isn't included, not even a golden katana. 2: There's an oil input which says Octan . Seriously, on a ancient artifact? 1: The Dragon Sword of Fire wouldn't make much sense here since it wouldn't fit on his back with the new neck accessory and since it's technically what the bike is created from. A regular gold katana could have worked, but I like the contrast the black ones have with his neck accessory. 2: That doesn't say Octan, it says "octane 88" which is something perfectly reasonable on a motor vehicle whether it's created from an ancient relic using The Power of Imagination or thrown together with spare parts. Gotta give it the right fuel either way, I suppose Anyway, if you're really opposed to having a fuel tank on a magical vehicle made from an ancient sword, you could always leave that fuel cap sticker off. Omega X Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 (edited) I'll be honest "Born To Be A Ninja" (the Season 3 Ninjago theme song) is much much better than "Weekend Whip". You can listen to it here Is it now? Hmm...there is still room for improvement though. The jazz combination is , in my opinion, a little weird for Ninjago in the first place. I am expecting a more traditional theme, but that is Sensei Wu's theme. Regarding the two songs, my first impression of Weekend Whip is 'What are they mumbling?' until I realized that they are actually echoing the theme itself. "Ninja..GO!! Ninja..GO!! Come on come on lets do the Weekend Whip " or something like that. My first impression of 'I want to be a ninja' is 'Why is there only one line in the entire song?' and that hasn't changed. The singer is only singing "I want to be a ninja ,I want to be a ninja, I want to be a ninja!" and on and on only in different music background. I prefer Weekend Whip because it actually acknowledges the Ninjago theme and Spin-zitzu. But I think that Lego deserves the right to change the music after all. Omega X Edit: The lyrics actually change at the back of the song, but I still think it is weird. Aren't those ninjas already ninjas? Edited June 3, 2012 by Omega X Quote
DraikNova Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 It's just that it would be nice to have what the vehicle is created from with the set. And while I like the black katana's, they're not that useful when trying to get a complete set of Ninja, with both their elemental weapons and the katana's that fit their secondary color. Anyway, I now have a complete set of those. Quote

Anyway, I now have a complete set of those. OK, I now get what you're saying. Getting a full collection of the golden weapons wasn't really a concern of mine this year since I had already gotten all of them last year in the Fire Temple. Of course, this year there are even more sets than last year that include all four: the Ultra Sonic Raider has all four golden weapons and all four ZX Ninja, and Epic Dragon Battle also has all four golden weapons. But short of those two sets (the most expensive sets of the year), there are only two sets with the Dragon Sword of Fire: 9456 Spinner Battle Arena and 9561 Kai ZX. If you're not a fan of the spinner sets then chances are neither of those sets would be very desirable. Certainly a collect-them-all objective in the Ninjago theme can be more expensive than in most other LEGO themes! Anyway, on a side note, TLG recently added the August model sets to shop.LEGO.com (in the U.S., at least; not sure if they had already been listed for other countries). Unfortunately cache.LEGO.com still doesn't have any product pics for 9450 Epic Dragon Battle, but they do have them for all the other sets. I couldn't help but smile when it finally struck me how humane it is that the Ultra Sonic Raider's "prison cell" has a heat lamp (pic). Because, you know... snakes. Quote
