Sirens-of-Titan Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 I love the new stone-work brick they include in the small set!! My this will be a wall-building revolution! As far as the theme goes, some excellent new molds (weapons, headgear, and unique body parts!) I love the new snake molds! Finally a menacing looking snake piece, and I can only imagine that it will later on be produced in colors other than lime green. I am very happy with this new lineup! We know that the story/setting are completely nuts but that's irrelevant as they provide a very unique set of parts we would never see otherwise! Quote
Brickviller Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 The sets really look good by themselves, and some very interesting parts and minifigs are used. But I really miss the time I could just believe something, like this theme, without thinking to much like: "how is it possible that ninja's are fighting in modern vehicles against snake men in also some modern vehicles, combined with some ancient vehicles Kids will probaly love it so much more than me Quote

I say it's all in good fun. Quote
Aanchir Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 The snakemen remind me heavily of Dragonball Z or Power Rangers villains, while the vehicles have a definite Power Rangers vibe. I was never interested in either of these things growing up, but I can appreciate why everyone else my age was! The kendo gear is cool, as is the helmet on the Cole spinner, and I love Nya's design in her spinner set, especially the creative use of the bucket handle! The new arena looks pretty boring, but there's not much that can be done with an arena. Sadly, it doesn't excite me nearly as much as Skeleton Bowling's arena, but it probably has a much lower price point. The new spinner design is just slightly different, and the fact that it has Technic pin receptacles on the bottom is promising. The "crowns" are cool additions, and remind me slightly of Knights' Kingdom shields only much more versatile. As for the larger sets, the Ninja's boat is most excellent. It has a very traditional look, yet is stylized enough to feel as exciting as everything else in the theme. And it flies! Magnificent! The "tailed" snakemen are very interesting, as are the snake staffs. The other vehicles are all kind of odd. While the world of Ninjago has been established as an anachronism stew, it's hard to tell whether these will fit in very well, and they certainly upset the "technology versus tradition" pattern that the first wave had. At the same time, they are quite stylish, especially Kai's bike! If that same sort of sweeping stylization were present in Cole's and Jay's vehicles, I'd like them all a lot more. The snake ATV is weird beyond belief, but the brickbuilt snake face is sexy, arguably more so than any of the skeleton vehicles' brickbuilt skulls! I can see Zane has a stylish little bike in the snake ATV set. Why does Zane always get stuck with the tiniest vehicles/steeds? I can just imagine that if the Ninjas were to get horses, he'd get the Fat Pony. Also, interestingly, Garmadon now seems to have four arms in the boat set. This is actually consistent with his initial concept, as seen in this video. But the way they're actually doing it looks really weird... The new snakes are kind of weird. They seem to be ammo in some things? That's absolutely crazy, and I love it! I can't wait to learn the story behind these things in more depth-- the roles of all the characters, all the new armor, and the vehicles! But I can tell already that in this theme alone 2012 could be an expensive year for me! Quote
vexorian Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 (edited) It seems they are really taking this theme seriously. The vehicles are very interesting. I think I might get the blue plane. that boat is surely going to be loved among historical/legend AFOLs at least for the bricks. Excellent detail in those snakemen. It seems this is the successor to Atlantis / Pharaoh's quest in regards to cool monster minifigs. Edited September 13, 2011 by vexorian Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Don't mean to be dominating this thread but i just noticed something I think is quite important; there appears to be a new 1X1 round tile. (At least I haven't seen it before) It appears to be on the staff of the snake people (trans colors), and also on quite a few of the vehicles (i.e. take a look at the missiles being fired by the snake chopper, and also all along the engine of the black car (light bley) and the middle of the blue jet (in yellow) This is a very cool piece and offers a great template for round hand-held items to be printed on. LEGOMAN132 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 I think the snak people are great also the fighter jet looks cool. Quote
Ceroknight Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 The snake people are really amazing! Garmadon has four arms...what? (or is that Loyd?) Printed headgear! Thank you for the pictures! Quote
Aanchir Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 The snake people are really amazing! Garmadon has four arms...what? (or is that Loyd?) Printed headgear! Thank you for the pictures! As I mentioned in my post, Garmadon was apparently originally going to have four arms. I don't think that's Lloyd... According to the spinners page, Lloyd is the one in a Sith-type hood, also seen shooting lightning in the background of the same set Garmadon is pictured with. Also, I couldn't help but notice on the Spinners page that the contents of the Jay ZX booster pack happen to include a golden-bladed chainsaw... perfect... Quote
Algernon Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 That ship is seriously the coolest looking LEGO set I've ever seen. Quote
Niku Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 New figs are so cool, the armours give a good variety to the samurai theme. And IMO the snake guys are way better than the skellies. Quote
ice dragon Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I think I'll buy the 'figs the cheapest way possible, as they are the only thing I really like. All of the ninja's vehicles look out of place. I didn't think Ninjago was going to become Power Rangers. Quote
Oky Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Hm... Not so sure about the heavy influence of Power Rangers in this new wave. The snakemen are also not quite as good as I had imagined. But the set designs certainly seem excellent, and all the new molds are intriguing. Also, Nya looks badass! I LOVE the idea of booster packs! They allow you to get all the cool new weapons without having to shell out for a minifig and a useless spinner! Quote
prateek Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 (edited) Looks AWESOME! The snakes are much more interesting than the skeletons, and they have cool vehicles. The Ninjas just became more BA, and I'm liking the new pieces. This is my new favourite 2012 theme so far... BTW, Oky, how is this being like Power Rangers a bad thing? horizon Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Oh frell, how can a cool theme like Ninjago get demolished by a new wave. Garmaddon 4 arms = ugly. Snake people = ugly All new Ninja outfits = ugly spinners with extra bit on it = unfair Shrine tolerable Green scorpion mobile = ugly (fits better in alien conquest) Blue jet is nice but totally NOT in Ninjago. Stupid, dumb, crap. Red bike looks much less cool then chopov's bike. The black car looks like a bad technic concept, ugly as heck The green copter looks sleak but same issues as the jet. The boat looks cool but less cool then I hoped for but still the only good set in the wave. I wonder what the kids will say... Quote

I could easily post a list of any group of sets that LEGO's released and call them all ugly without explanation. NinjaGo held zero interest for me, until seeing these pictures. Now I think I'll probably get more than one of these. The minifigs are very unique and potentially quite useful. The designs themselves are AMAZINGLY creative, and I really love the aesthetics the designers achieved with the green helicopter and big boat. I especially love the look of the boat's flying mode - that alone made my jaw drop. Although I do agree that it has more of a Power Rangers vibe now. Quote
horizon Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Yes. Design and opinion is subjective. So I can say ugly without giving a reason. It is ugly or not. :) I mean, I really like all the current sets minus some things. Perhaps it is the power rangers thing that annoys me. Perhaps it is the ninja have vehicles that annoy me. Perhaps it is both and more. ;) Quote
squidman85 Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Too many new piees for a theme,i think. But it's good.I also like these new large blades on vehicles. I thought Lloyd will be more comical, however i like the new Garmadon. Fang-Suei is the best snakeman,i think. And why is Nya the only one to have that cool outfit? Why is sai used as a scythe, not as single weapon? Quote
legobodgers Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 (edited) Has anyone noticed the Sai that the white ninja is holding in the airship set? It looks awesome! These pictures may have convinced my to buy some Ninjago sets. EDIT: Sorry I didn't see that MantaMan had beaten me to it. Edited September 14, 2011 by legobodgers Quote

Lance Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Is that Nya I can see in the spinner pick Well its a female face so it probably is Nya. Shame there's no green ninja yet, but from what i've heard, its coming in wave 2. About Lloyd Garmadon. I don't mind his name, as long as hes not the main villan. Its very good to see Garmadon isn't good, and the four arms look pretty good. Just remember, in the film, he says he will soon have enough power to possess the four weapons. Another thing is that there seems to be a very large wave for a second year of a action theme. Maybe, this points towards another year, or maybe longer..... Quote
Arigomi Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I guess flick-fire missiles were too boring and thus, flick-fire snakes were born. Quote
Bricksan Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Just seen the photo of the new ones and they look good, I have saved the image if anyone wants it. As no doubt it will be removed soon Quote
